Ray, I'm seeing **** all difference in those pictures aside from blown out highlights on the HDR. Try hosting them on a site like imgur or something and hotlinking them here because those downrezzed pictures are as useful as a concrete parachute.

I've always complained about this exact thing with DVD vs bluray. ![]() I think it's done that way because that's how you're going to see it on your TV anyway. _______________ Would love to see some 4K playback on a 1080p TV if anybody can do it. |

It's hard to judge from these screens, but the sharpening seems "artificial" to me on the HDR version...
Like using electronic sharpening on any TV screen... Maybe because of the different grading... Maybe I'm used so much to SDR that now it's my reference.... At the theater and at home Last edited by MisterXDTV; 02-14-2016 at 09:55 PM. |

wanted to share a few pictures.
I wanted to show of my insanely good photo editing skills (scarcasm). But i took more pictures today (as i know all you guys just LOVE) pictures are both the same size. 1. 1080P SDR 2. 4k HDR 3. 4k HDR picture with SDR objects chopped in and put next to 4k objects. now, i can clearly see the sharpness gain in the 4k pictures, along with more solid colors and defined edges along with the better black levels too. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

Dude, your pictures are badly captured and are not showing a representative of anything 1080p or 4K. I can see the extra highlights in The Martian pics a little, but that's it.
What camera are you using? Do you have a digital camera? |

no its not a professional camera but you need to know what to look for. heres another picture. if you can zoom in on this, the SDR next to the HDR clearly shows a sharper door on the balcony on the left side. my lap top is touch screen so i can easily zoom in to see edges. ![]() Last edited by ray0414; 02-16-2016 at 04:48 AM. |

Yep you're totally right, I completely missed that. The vents are all blurred together on the SD picture but more defined and visible on the bottom picture, bravo! |

since some of you seem unable to zoom to do comparisons, i took the liberty of doing it for you (gee, what a nice guy!?)
I was able to zoom in and screen shot it on my phone. In this picture, its perfectly clear that the 4k door on the right is much more defined than the 1080P SDR door on the left ![]() ![]() Last edited by ray0414; 02-16-2016 at 04:49 AM. |

From AVSForum:
Top: BD Bottom: UHD HDR Both pictures look very good, but HDR still feels too artificial to me... Maybe I don't get it, I don't know ![]() ![]() |

Sorry ray, I'm still not sold on pictures taken with a phone zoomed in some. It's like we're at DVD Beaver or something.
The shots above are better, being properly lined up and from the same frame, but the pixel grid of the display is very obvious (from a projector, I presume?) so that doesn't help none. Bottom line: taking photos of a screen is the screenshot equivalent of a cave painting. Until people can extract the image directly from the stream itself we're all just pissing in the wind. |
