So with 1009 we lose some of the features of 1010?

The only known thing gained with 1010 was HDR on Netflix but it was also a server side update so I'm not sure if was actually coincidence that the updates were released at the same time or a requirement to have 1010.

If I have 1010 now, and I upload 1009, will I lose HDR Netflix?

I don't know but I wouldn't try to downgrade (if it even lets you) unless you have a problem

Not sure if this is the right spot to post this but if anyone is looking to buy this player but I'm selling it for $150, I'm also including a hi-speed Amazon Basics cable with it. It is in excellent condition. Preferably local pick up or drop off for the player. I live in Boston. See link below:

Any. Assuming you aren't running more than 3m of cable. I think I paid £2 for my last cable. Though I haven't needed to buy one in a while since the last 3 things I bought (Xbox One S, PS4 Pro and I think, the Samsung UHD player) all came with one in the box anyway.

I am thinking of buying this player from 220-electronics to get region free BD and UHD combined.

Is this a good player overall?

I have a Sony BD region free and a Xbox One S today, but I read that the Xbox is not really a good UHD player, picture-wise.

I enjoy this player quite a bit and have no issues with it. I think some users have mentioned they do not like the blu-ray playback, but I have not experienced that dissatisfaction. I'm satisfied with my purchase... now, that being said, if I had to start fresh today, I'd have to seriously weigh the Oppo, but at quite the increase in price, I'd still perhaps consider the Samsung. From what I've read, the Oppo and Samsung 4K playback seem identical, so you'd really have to weigh what you want for the extra scratch.

I do think that UHD playback on the Xbox 1S looks great, but I keep reading that standalone players look better no matter what.

I will keep the Xbox either way, but I'd really like to get the best possible PQ from my equipment.

The player has some PQ related glitches which would keep me from purchasing another one. For the time being, I'd wait it out and get a 2nd gen model that is more stable and likely have even better PQ.

The Samsung is not as good PQ wise as the Oppo. The Samsung reportedly has undefeatable noise reduction applied to the video chroma channels, probably as a biproduct of lesser chroma upscaling algorithms (which takes 4:2:0 sources and upscales them to 4:2:2 or 4:4:4).

Is the rumor about DV being part of an update true?

For this player? Highly unlikely. Samsung is not in the Dolby camp at the moment. They're trying to shove their proprietary HDR+ format down the industry's throat.

I'll just wait for a 2nd gen player then. The XB1S will hold me in the meantime. :-)

Oh yeah, that.... I was just thinking how my chroma upscaling looked off when I was watching a movie the other night.

DV on VuDu and HDR on this player (Netflix or disc) look almost identical

Funny, but it goes to show you that not all players output pure video signals as they're supposed to.

On some UHD discs, the player is aggressively noisy while starting up the disc and then for about the first 5 or 10 minutes. The noise will then come back during the film for a short while. I noticed this so far with The Shallows and Goodfellas.
