Specs…http://timescapes.org/products/Specs.aspx
Purchase warning to any members of the 4K Viz owners group….please be advised that I don't think the 4K P series TV will play the Timescapes 4k UHD USB stick (average bitrate of 60 Mbit/s apparently), as the material is h.264 encoded and the P’s no lik-ee h.264 via USB stick. |

In terms of bitrate projections, what I can (generically) tell you is that technical investigators believe that about 55-100 Mbps HEVC will be required for 4:2:2 10bit/12 bit 2160 content up to 50/60p frame rate ….depending upon PQ expectations and content complexity. |

Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying we won't see 50GB discs at all because they'll have some uses for shorter 4K 24fps features, as 90 minutes x 60Mb/s average video bit rate = 39GB, which leaves plenty of room for audio tracks and whatnot. |

![]() ![]() j/k ![]() Well that bitrate estimation is *parameter loaded*. Remember, the average cinematic feature is 24fps, so you can whittle down that Mbps projection range a little there. Also, if you home deliver 4:2:0 sampling instead of 4:2:2, you can further whittle it down a lot. |

In case anyones interested in purchasing Timescapes 4K via the Blu-ray/USB pack available from amazon
Timescapes 4K Supplied on 8GB USB drive formatted in exFat - I had to copy the file off, reformat to NTFS and copy it back again as my TV wont recognise exFat. File is MP4, 6.17GB, resolution 3840 x 2160, length 00:46:22, encoded in h.265 hevc Average bit rate 19 MBit/s Note this is a different encode from the ones available to download directly from Timescapes. Just watched it and it makes a wonderful demo for your 4K TV. Some of the shots are stunning ![]() |

Speaking of which, vimeo sneaks in something 4K new (not only 4K upload capability, but 4K streaming too, at least to some users) without officially announcing it yet….
http://philipbloom.net/2015/01/03/vi...eaming-hooray/ P.S. Though for perspective, keeping in mind that an inherent characteristic of physical media has always been to offer premium performance, as opposed to just a respectable audio video experience. |

In a time when the terms ‘world class’, ‘expert’, ‘professional’, etc. are thrown around far too casually in social media…good quality stuff by good people in-the-know on both ends of the camera (fromThe Society Of Camera Operators and a giving member of the American Society of Retina Specialists)….http://vimeo.com/98753296

ACES 1.0 was officially released a few days ago and they also released the technical documents for it. ACES 1.0 has two color spaces which are AP0 and AP1. The AP0 color space covers the entire visible spectrum and is designed for long term storage while the AP1 color space is slightly bigger than the Rec. 2020 color space and is designed for CGI, color grading, and viewing. ACES 1.0 is an impressive standard and hopefully more movies will start to use it now that it is officially completed.

Not only does ACES enable future expansion of the creative palette but also it facilitates the creation of the Rec. 709 master by making it even more of an automated technical process by lessening the time needed
