I don't see a setting option in the Video settings for UHD output. I thought that if you have a 1080 HD device connected the player automatically downscales to 1080, but instead I am getting a pitch black screen. I cant even watch Daredevil anymore unless I play that content from my Roku device, but I should be able to stream in regular HD from this player's streaming apps as well, I think

Hit the home button. On the main. Screen scroll over to settings on the lower right side. In the settings, look for "resolution".

Yes it downscales.. Currently doing so, until my LG OLED comes this weekend.

Got the 8500 setup today, one passive BJC to my AVR and one passive BJC to my display. Hopefully that will be easy to deal with. Updated to 1005 real quick and I got my streaming stuff setup. It actually ramps to 2160p on Netflix way faster than my Roku 4, and hits Amazon HD faster as well. I will probably put the Roku 4 in the bedroom for now if the Samsung streaming continues to perform like that.

Forced 2160p
YCBCR 444
Standard Mode
Set Audio to Bitstream

Now I just need to watch The Revenant this weekend!

One thing I do not get is, for a player that is this fast loading and doing other things, menu movement with the remote keys is laggy. Makes no sense.

This Samsung UHD 4K blu-ray player is ugly. I remember when Samsung had the wall mountable blu-ray player that the top slid open so cool...

Would you still recommend to have Roku 4 along with this Samsung UHD player, or would that be just a waste of my money?
I was planning to order a Roku 4 because I have had a good experience with Roku 2 compared to streaming on my previous Samsung BD6500 (faster, easier to maneuver) for HD content

I only use Amazon and Netflix, because my bandwidth cap is low, so I am not a power user. For those, the blu-ray player is just fine IMO, but the apps do not have HDR capability yet. Hopefully that will come since Netflix is making a big push. 2160p PQ on Netflix was outstanding in the little bit of Daredevil I watched.

I think the New Samsung looks sleek. Now the wall-mountable..........that was not only ugly but silly.

Im not sure if your advice is to have Roku4 along with this new UHD Samsung player or just stream 4K from the player alone

Should BD-Wise be available for all Samsung UHD TVs? I just bought a 4K TV this past weekend, the Samsung 55KS8000, and I bought the Samsung UHD player to go with it, but when I try to turn on BD-Wise, it says that the TV does not support BD-Wise. Is there a particular setting on my TV making it unrecognizable?

IIRC, you have to connect the player directly to the display for BDwise to work.

I have the player going directly to the TV and the audio going to my receiver.

You got me then, that is as far as my knowledge goes on it since I do not have a Samsung display.

Thanks. This Samsung does have a separate box that it uses to connect the HDMI connections since it doesn't have any inputs directly on the TV, and then it uses a One-connect cable to go to the TV. But I figure that's how most of the TVs are designed since they're so thin.

Well, I spent a lot of time telling myself I'd hold out for the Panasonic or Oppo player, and then I pulled the trigger on the Sammy yesterday in anticipation of my LG G6 arriving tomorrow.

I was getting mighty tired of using my PS4 as my Blu-Ray player, so I rationalized my decision by telling myself I could either just bite the bullet on the UHD player, or buy some other 3D capable upscaling player for ~$100 or more and then still upgrade to UHD shortly after. Whoops. Hopefully I don't (completely) regret it.

Well, the Panny has had some bumps. Dropping audio on Atmos tracks and causing issues with JVC FP owners. I imagine Oppo will be the first one to hit it on the head, but we will see. The current players are a stop gap.

Why would you want to connect the player directly to the TV and not to the receiver? I have ALL my devices connected to the receiver and my displays (TV, projector) connected to the HDMI Outs on the receiver...
This is something new to me. Please explain.
