My European Pioneer A/V Receiver from 2012, an SC-LX76 has all its 6 HDMI inputs HDMI2.0, HDCP 2.2 enable, so it passes any 4K signal from an UHD Blu ray like my Samsung UBD-K8500. I've tested it and it works, 'though there are some hand shake issues from time to time, so I have The Samsung UHD BD connected straight to the T.V. and its second HDMI audio output to the A/V Receiver.

HDMI 2.0a is the key here, and you are better off using dual outs if it maters to you:

Quote:
Overview of HDMI 2.0a
Is there a specific format for HDR that will require this extension or will it be needed for any of the different HDR approaches?
We support HDR static metadata that is referenced in CEA 863.1. As the industry and features/formats develop, we will certainly evaluate supporting additional formats.

What is it about HDR that requires the format extension?
There is additional metadata is that required to deliver the enhancements offered by HDR. HDMI 2.0a adds the ability for devices to be able to transmit/receive this metadata.

No, any highspeed cable should do unless it is a very long run. HDMI 2.0a is an device/component requirement. I am using regular old high speed HDMI cable in 6ft lengths.

Not sure, if you are getting it from a USB stick.

Does the HDMI run from the player directly to the display? Have you tried another HDMI port? What model is your TV?

Quote:
HDMI 2.0: Increased maximum bitrate to 18 Gbps to support new formats such as Ultra High Definition 4K video (3840 x 2160 pixels) at up to 60 frames per second. (The 1.4 spec also supports 4K video but only up to 30 frames per second.) HDMI 2.0 also supports up to 32 audio channels, as well as dynamic auto lip-sync, plus new extensions to the CEC control set. Released September, 2013.

HDMI 2.0a: Added support for HDR (High Dynamic Range) video display. HDR provides enhanced picture quality by enabling greater detail for both the dark and bright parts of an image. The HDR information is encoded as additional metadata in HDR content such as streamed 4K video from Netflix®, or Ultra HD Blu-ray discs. HDMI 2.0a enables devices to transmit/receive this metadata. Released April, 2015.

Will I need a special "4K-compatible" HDMI cable?

No, you won't need to upgrade to "4K-compatible" HDMI cables. Current HDMI cables that are labeled "high speed" should be able to handle the increased bandwidth of 4K video signals.

I am not sure then. If your display is capable of HDR, and you are playing a UHD blu-ray disc directly from the player to your display, with it set to 2160p or Auto, no reason that I can think of.

That is why I always recommend to get A/V receivers with HDCP 2.2 included. It makes things much simpler

Wished my Denon would support HDR though. 4K looks great through my inexpensive 910W (its got Dolby Atmos!) but looks like the HDR is too new for receivers to support so I suggest using those two HDMI ports on the Samsung UHD player and going directly to your display and using the second HDMI for lossless audio only (unless you have a non-HDR TV then it doesn't matter).

Do you have an HDR 4K television?

Are you sure the 910W doesn't support HDR? According to Denon themselves, it is compatible:

I don't see why not. I only have one and I'm using the Denon 2200 which has very similar specs to the 910.

I knew that soon or later those HDCP 2.2 compliant connections on my Denon would be of some use
