Last night I spent some time ''playing'' with the Samsung player and The Martian UHD BD, known to have some issues with posterization. I had set the HDMI color format to Auto, with component 4:4:4 posterization was clearly visible, but then changed to Standard RGB and surprise, posterization was gone. It may be the way my Philips 4K T.V. set handles each video format, or how the Samsung player converts video for a non-HDR set, doing it differently for component and RGB.

This is hard to keep up with, so many posts!
So what is the verdict on the player solely as a UHD BRD player? What are the major pros and cons? I have a new 4K TV, new AVR and all I need is a UHD BRD player... can't decide if I should hold off for another brand or not. Not too keen on Panasonic's price, and don't need all it's features. I just want something that plays UHD BRD's. |

That is important to diagnose the problem, if there is one. |

It looks like the Samsung is set to its (inaccurate) default of PCM (regular PCM or converted to PCM) audio output rather than native bitstreaming. Look at your HDMI audio setup menu for the player and change it.

First of all, I thought that PCM or Bitstreaming only affected bluray and DVD sources, not streaming content. Second of all, I always keep the player on bitstream unprocessed for dolby atmos blurays

However, it looks like you hit the Movie button (that brings up a list of upmixers) rather than the info button. The info button will tell you what audio codec the receiver is seeing and any upmixer applied to said codec. |

Both the Roku and Vizio are streaming in DD+. The Samsung is the only one that is not. Is it due to the fact that I have the Samsung on dual connection perhaps? What I mean is that I have the Samsung Main HDMI going into the Vizio tv and the Audio HDMI going into the receiver Bluray HDMI |

They've updated the Amazon app, but pretty much nothing else. That will be later this summer. |

I might have to try to temporarily connect with just one singler HDMI cable going from the player's MAIN to the Denon's "bluray" HDMI port and see if I still get the same result...I owned the Samsung 6500 and 7500 prior to this UHD player and from what I recall I was streaming in DD+ just fine with single HDMI connection
