I figured what the issue was, on my tv there is an option for HDMI Ultra Deep Color, when I set that to 'ON" to HDMI 3 which is the same HDMI port the 4k player is connected to, I get that error when I try to watch something but when I switch it off everything works fine. I'm not sure why this is happening

The problem might be with the player itself. |

I think I solved the issue. Before I had the 2 HDMIs connected. One was the main one going to the TV and the other one was the audio going to my sound bar. I took out the HDMI for the audio and just ran an optical cable from the output of Samsung to input of soundbar instead. Now everything works fine. Either my HDMI is bad or the HDMI input is bad on the Samsung player.

Is the cable you are using a high speed cable? maybe try swapping cables or only connecting the player no sound bar. |

And I would concur, keep all the deep color and extra crap cut off. |

But deep colour is what governs the bit depth of the output, and seeing as UHD Blu-rays are natively 10-bit then turning Deep Colour off will bump everything down to 8-bit, surely? BUT...if turning Deep Colour ON is also causing problems for y'all then clearly there's something badly wrong with how the Samsung is governing bit depth, which is probably what's causing this banding in the first place.

Maybe so. Im still not 100% up on the proper settings UHD discs will require on the display and player side., For years Ive been programmed to cut a lot of this stuff off by default. |

Sure, I'm the first to say that Deep Colour is snake oil with 8-bit sources...but now we've got 10-bit so being able to pass a higher bit depth is essential and Deep Colour FINALLY has some importance within the sphere of home theater. Whatever Samsung are doing with the processing doesn't fill me with confidence, launch model or not. So much for Bill Hunt's assertion that these things had been tested to destruction...

Yeah, I mean it's quite a goof to let it slide by with 10 bit issues. Im guessing deep color and wide color gamut setting swill all need to be ON.
Shouldn't be surprised though, we all get beta tested nowadays on product launches. Probably going to use one mode on my LG for UHD/blu-ray scaled and the other mode for 1080i HDTV. |
