So until I have more 4K discs in hand tomorrow (I plan on getting Fury Road and Sicario), I've been experimenting with a variety of 1080 blus to make sure all the upscaling looks good without having to tinker with settings. I mainly tested Man Of Steel, Thief, Casino Royale, and Army Of Darkness (Shout! edition) as they each employed different filming techniques from color grading to aspect ratio and I'm blown away. The only thing I did during playback was switch the player from Dynamic to Standard and Dynamic was easily the best each time. Now I can't wait to see how the new 4K discs turn out tomorrow.

Tried some of the recommendations.
RGB enhanced didn't make a difference, which in my case is fine since I was not experiencing any problems before with black crush. I was hesitant to switch the picture mode from user default to dynamic since well terms like dynamic to me usually don't equate to good pq. Glad I gave it a try. Dynamic made UHDs look even better to me - more vivid and colorful but without any clipping or artifacting from what I can tell, I watched Maze Runner, rechecked some scenes from Kingsman and Martian and it all looked excellent to me. Am one of those who usually prefer the dull, old user standard but am really enjoying how much more vibrant and colorful the UHDs look with dynamic. My settings for UHD playback are all mostly at default values. For the TV (Sony 55x850c), I have hdmi signal mode set to enhanced, dynamic range on auto, HDR picture mode all default. For the K8500 player, pretty much have all the video settings on auto, with just the in-movie picture mode setting on dynamic. This produces a UHD image that am quite satisfied with so far, have only seen 3 movies but am looking to pick up around 5 more tomorrow at Best Buy). Same. Love it for UHD but I switch back to defualt user 0 settings for BDs |

Highly recommend San andreas.
Dead obvious that they used the 3.4k raw files for this one!! Easily the best looking 2k movie so far and it rivals the movies with 4k di's too. |

Mine is listed as shipped and arriving today. Lots of Best Buy people have had theirs for weeks.

After sampling some more discs last night, I think I'm gonna stick with YCbCr 4:4:4 instead of RGB Enhanced. The latter is far too inconsistent depending on what movie you're watching. Sure, some look outstanding(Scorch Trials and Kingsman for example). But others are awful such as X-Men: Days of Future Past. The opening sequence in 2023 is almost unwatchable. When I change it YCbCr, it looks great as does pretty much every other title I tried with that setting.
I'll stick with Dynamic over Standard for sure. Occasionally the skin tones are a little too red, but the good far outweighs the bad. Mind you, I'm talking about UHD discs only. I'll need to try out a few more Blu-rays on the K8500 before I decide if I prefer Dynamic or Standard on those. The good news is it's very easy to switch back and forth. |

If Days of Future Past is any indication, darker movies on UHD with HDR are gonna look awful with RGB Enhanced turned on. |

The settings are so display dependent, everyone will have different results. So far I haven't noticed any difference between YCbCr and RBG enhanced. I do use dynamic on the player for UHD though, that makes a difference. I still use the Oppo 95 for regular BDs but I may use the Samsung player if I discover that it upscales better than my TV (which I kinda doubt, but who knows). Would rather use my Oppo though, more options like showing bit rate info and adjusting subtitles to the black bar area.
