Well let’s not allow all those movie agnostic techno HDR geeks who are reading feel left out. Let me think…..

Keeping in mind that if the highlight detail has already clipped in the original SDR grade, and you’re using that as your source, all you’re going to achieve is brighter, clipped highlights with an “uprez”.

What does your 7-post streak have to do with discussing HDR technology??

The IMDb shows a 4K DI, they also list the camera as a Sony F65. I like some other movies the director and DP have done so here's to hopping this one will be added to my collection .

Once again, thought I had strayed into the Top Gun thread, how do I keep doing that?

Nitro, and here I thought you unsubscribed several pages back. Advanced nuances, put on your thinking cap, man, e.g.

- the mama of that model jet above, which was being demoed at the event, has provided aerial footage to Academy Award winning motion pictures that have made it into HDR shiny disc deliverables
- the DPMC is the industry’s most complete capture to display facility and with the CLED display having an aspect ratio of 2:66:1 makes it ideal for 6K anamorphic VENICE content, not to mention evaluating content for future direct view showings given it HDR capability ( https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...s#post16403650 )
- Tom Cruise is one of the few filmmakers who, on location (see the exclusive pic) has tried to explain to the masses the best way to watch movies on a home display, recall the PSA on twitter - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...e#post16116265 as well as doing more typical promotions for Dolby Vision: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cFm5m8YswDg#t=35s

- yeah, I know the post above about what specific source in one’s catalog to use to uprezz to HDR is a bit of a stretch in terms of on topic purity

etc.

Good to know Wendell , as I didn’t catch that when responding. Somebody should also list the DSM in there as that’s quite relevant too.

Day 2, gates open early today so must hit the road now. Somebody PM me the viewership number for this thread at ~ 9 P.M. (Pacific Time) last night so we can get an official count so as to compare exactly to April’s number. I’m figuring we came in around 2,493,000 which would make the final count be about 105,000 views for May. Well over 4,000+ views for the past 2 days.

So potentially a 4K DI but 2K DSM situation?

No, (unlike something like the 6K captured Gone Girl - https://www.red.com/news/fincher-and...on-6k-gonegirl ), for TG: M (shot at 6048 x 2534) I’m thinking a 4K DSM, which allows creation of both 4k and 2k/HD deliverables, IMAX, depending on one’s choice.

For the record on May 31st at 9 P.M., there were 2,493,465 views for this thread per a fellow member of this forum who prefers to remain anonymous and merits a thank you for his accurate information. So, we’ll go with that figure when we total the views for the month of June….if I’m around to do the tally at the end of this month and not otherwise occupied.

Congrats to all viewers and esp. contributors, who without them there would be no viewers:

Heads-up to Agent Kay, you’re walking the line as to falling out of the top 20. Step it up.
Geoffrey remains strong as a lion, although LordoftheRings is in the attack mode. Who knows what the future may bring?

They eliminate most of them by analysing and measuring and calculating all the parameters first...light, provenance, shadows, aperture, film stock, distance, foreground, background, ...and it becomes second nature; just shoot as the scene supposed to be shot...with movement, focus, panning, zooming, ...

Films like Sicario, Blade Runner 2049, Roma, Children of Men, The Revenant, Pan's Labyrinth, Citizen Kane, Lawrence of Arabia, Once Upon a Time in the West, Baraka, Samsara, ...takes preparation, creativity, time, composition, ...

Why am I saying that? Because we are the ones who appreciate great cinematography and everything to do with great films by the great movie directors.

And HDR is the latest best.
