So are these movies mostly up-converts? It seemed some of the Fox movie titles from a month or 2 ago would also have to be up-converts.

There is nothing in these 6 titles that makes me interested in purchasing in UHD.
Now a number of the maybe in the future ones look like great stuff, but I already have them on regular blu.
Sony have been doing this for ages, I saw Chappie in 4k theatrically

Yep, they do love a 4k finish.
Don't forget they have a 4k digital cinema business and a download service they needed the content

Their commitment to great quality delivery is just top in the business....
Too bad their catalog is not the best of the majors

It's a great catalouge, just a shame these titles dont show it.

Just be happy this didn't happen:

While I agree they've got a tasty catalogue (though with every new Blomkamp movie it's being taken down a notch) that launch slate is hardly have been worse than that flick IMO. Hell, a Sandler movie is high art next to Smurfs 2.

Actually, often, the norm has been, even with 4K finishes from Sony Pictures, is to have created much of the vfx in 2K.

A notable exception to that industry-wide practice with ‘4K movies’ was Tomorrowland in which many vfx shots were actually produced (created) in 4K, rendered in 4K and output in 4K…. https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...d#post10965985

The official BDA name is: Ultra HD Blu-ray. Expect to see several variations on this name. This reminds me, I need to tweak my avatar that I have had for sometime now.

Yes, and to think at the time I was furious that they changed the title to The Next Level.

Give us the real Spider-Man sequel, Spider-Man 2 (2004). Thanks SONY!

What is up with Sony really? They didn't like TASM2 by their own admission and audiences agreed, why keep pushing it? Especially when they already have a 4K scan of the better movie.

Half of the forum members here think that the abbreviation for Blu-ray Disc is "BR". If they can't get that right, they'll never figure this out.

Becuz they didn't make nearly as much money on it as they thought they were going to, they've gotta claw back a few more $$$ from somewhere.

correct me if I'm wrong but didn't it just make a few hundred million dollars less then the prior films if that? for a total that is still a good few hundred million dollars more than most other films? Bonkers is all I can say.

TASM2 will be one of the first I buy from Sony's UHD releases. Hopefully the rest of the Spider-Man films won't take too long to come out.
