I hope you also allow To the Wonder (2012) onto the List because with regards to complete accuracy (and despite what imdb lists) a small amount of the footage in the final edit of Spring Breakers was actually acquired with VHS cameras and plastic toy cameras from Japan (namely, the Digital Harinezumi http://www.gizmag.com/digital-harine...ography/16462/ ) but, I believe in those cases the Director intended that video/digital imagery be included to give the scene(s) either a documentary style authenticity or an artificial reality (the Harinezumi) rather than somehow contributing to the overall filmic *look* of the motion picture as a whole.
It just seemed to me inappropriate to nominate Spring Breakers to the ‘List of 4K+ Masters for Digitally Shot Films’ because it wasn’t shot 100% on film. ![]() Last edited by Penton-Man; 06-30-2013 at 01:44 AM. Reason: added a link to gizmag |

L'armée, you can add Steven Spielberg’s Catch Me If You Can - https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Catch...Blu-ray/27572/
Although I think this movie doesn’t accurately portray the main character’s actual age at the time (because it’s not really a biographical documentary), I find it quite amazing that he was only 16–21 years old when he committed all the crimes. For those who haven’t viewed the movie yet, I spoiler-ize this link because it describes what endeavors F.A. moved onto following his incarcerations… [Show spoiler]

Hey, I’m told that before a sense of valor intervened last evening you referred to this thread and a contributor here as “bologna” in a derogatory fashion. That’s not nice ![]() ![]() ![]() Enjoy life ![]() P.S. Tread carefully in the future. |

Sorry for being rude to you before, however it really wasn't that bad. Everything looks worse in type as one can't get the tone in how things are said. ![]() I merely get sick of people spouting bollocks like they were there painting the same scans that i was for weeks/months. It's really not that hard, but I'd deal with people pretending it is, day in, day out and it gets tiresome. And then all this tech jargon comes up after we make it pretty- I gloss over. Too many bullshitter/know nothing's in this game and they drive the industry in to the ground IMO. That is to say, Happy 4th 'Murica. ![]() |

![]() Did you say ‘painting'? https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...ng#post7702517 Well the bullsh*tting quality also extends to celebrity video gurus, etc. who exaggerate their true influence over the industry as a whole (simply to promote themselves) as well as executives who tell half truths. So to be fair, I don’t think that the tossing of manure is exclusive to hobbyists. |

My advice to that would be even if they don’t notice it, just never admit to (if you have) using a *texture control* tool, or digital sharpening on any material….even Separations. And the word ‘regraining’ is viewed by many here with about as much enthusiasm as an enormous lip or breast augmentation gone horribly wrong.

However, with other colourists I have taken care of some grain management etc. if they use a Lustre. Just a handful of shots, and I have a better eye than these arm-chair critics anyhow so it's never been a problem with me. ![]() |

It’s kind of funny because on the other hand, it seems those who have written software for texture control actually claim and recommend (based on the parameters to which they’ve written the software to work in the first place…and that even includes the degrainer for Baselight) that you should degrain first and then color grade, etc. i.e. degrain the raw images before you do anything else. I guess it goes to show that ‘practice’ doesn’t always follow ‘theory’. |
