I designed and developed the TV Shootout to be about the very best TVs on the market. This year we started with 7 and now we're down to four 4K HDR series. Wish we had more models/brands like the days of PDP with far more premium and very good tier 2 companies.

Before the audience arrives, see if your installers can agree upon what two televisions, or what television and the X300 when compared to each other, show the same colors with the wide color gamut content feeding them. Then when the shootout is over and all the ballots have been cast but not counted so as not to bias the result, inform the audience you are doing an experiment independent of the primary purpose of choosing the Best TV and simply ask the audience on a separate ballot a yes or no question as to whether they see the two televisions described above as showing the same colors, or if not, how do the colors differ?

If done right, your experiment could illustrate metamerism as Charles Poynton did last November, but with actual televisions/monitors rather than T-shirts -

Agreed. And the build-up to this shootout should be getting more coverage on the interwebs, I mean after all, the shootout is free and Robert’s colleagues always put on a good show.

I suspect it isn’t very “news worthy” outside of Blu-ray.com because other blogs, forums, tweeter machines consider Blu-ray.com as a major competitor to their audience. Kind of similar to this - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Firewall

Will you be feeding any non-HDR/WCG, non-‘4K’ source like good old fashioned cable TV channels into these TVs to see what they do with that? As the Women’s World Cup moves toward its later rounds, I’ll be watching some of that tournament on regular old cable (HD).

In other words, which TV will process suboptimal source best.

1 of the expert judges noticed at halftime that the Samsung was on the wrong settings. was using the "native" color space which is not the calibrated custom space. the twice he said "how the hell did that even happen".
