I haven’t watched the whole recording of Robert’s shootout, just segments here and there. Is what Chris H. says true? –https://twitter.com/BigJohnnyArcher/...05859950710784

The BVM-HX310 is rated at 1K nits, should we expect consumer displays to be rated higher? Or did I miss something? Sure wish these folks could get together on what target they want to master to.

I wonder, sounds to me you were better off getting the 77" A9G instead of the 65"?

If one thing, you're consistent - another bizzare if not extremely weird post.

I have a C8, I have no desire to purchase any OLED model this year - I don't really care. These things are stagnated and I don't really care to upgrade until progress has been made. My panel has no tinting and limited banding, and that's worth more for an OLED than any brand badge is from any side.

It's funny that you mention the growing circular pattern to test for ABL because that wouldn't even catch the effect I'm discussing - static images causing the whole screen to dim. I.e. a scoreboard in a sports match causing the whole image to dim. This is awful and a total deal breaker.

You strike me as someone that's too smart to watch something as cavemanish as sports, though.

The HX310 is a step in the right direction in not having to deal with nasty ABL like for the X300, but

if you’re looking to leverage the best HDR possible with your content and you can’t get ahold of a Pulsar, we should be expecting, or should I say, desiring, the reference monitor manufacturers to eventually come out with mastering monitors that can achieve higher brightness (>1000 nits), like the FSI XM310K does/can, listen to the video clip here for additional insight (~ 2 min. timestamp onward) - https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...e#post16421410

Did they mention anytime during the shootout where they fixed the gamma at with these TVs?.....esp. given – https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread...a#post16420157

and our recent discussion about it with Stacey and other Blu-ray.com membership on previous pages with links to mixed experiences viewing The Long Night by others on colorist forums/message boards. Point being, if all these puppies were at 2.4 gamma, I would have loved seeing them feed the notorious Season 8 episode 3, ‘or it’s not me, it’s you and yours’ - https://www.theverge.com/tldr/2019/4...inematographer

But here the C9 is not a loser, it's second place.
The A9G is the first place winner.

Either one of those two TVs are the top best two.
The rest from the shootout are . . . distant 3rd and 4th.

I wonder how the Panasonic GZ2000 would have fared if it was in the Shootout...next year should be very interesting...is there going to be another Shootout this year in the Fall/Winter?

The end of this August there will be an 8K Shootout and why Robert waiting until August: He wanted the LG to be there.

LG 88" 8K OLED
Sony 85" Z9G
Samsung (I don't know which)
I don't know if any other manufacturer will be in it.

Thanks Jim. The Samsung will be QN82Q900RB. I'd prefer to use the 85", but the 85" Q900RA is last year's model.

As for other 8K TVs, I'm hoping for Sharp's new 8K 75" dual cell LCD and Sharp's new 80" or 90" 8K FALD TV.

The 1000 nits stated is 'full screen brightness.' No consumer display comes close to that right now. I'm sure the 10%-25% area for peak brightness is much higher.

Yes, Sharp displayed and demonstrated their 75" 8K dual cell LCD TV at CES 2019.

Kind of curious why these shootouts include Samsung when the results are easily predictable.

Our annual TV Shootout always includes the premium manufacturers flagship TVs.

Samsung won two years in a row and this year the Q90R is an excellent TV that finished very well.

I could be wrong but I don't think so. Just go old fashioned full array local dimming. I was at least hoping it to be a mini-LED.
