I'm afraid, very afraid. Seeing possible final designs for the UHD discs made me want to go out and buy a new tv

I dread to think what will happen when they land on shelves and I instantly empty my bank account on a tv and player on a whim

Whim...that's my concern, I was thinking yesterday, imagine if they launch a player before Christmas but they cut it very close, and on a whim I end up with one. I had been saving since January this year as it was expected to launch for Christmas this year so the money is there I just hope I don't get tempted to do anything silly with it.

I keep telling myself not to buy first gen players, but if the process aren't ridiculous I might be foolish enough to buy one

I've been adding up the cost of a new set up nothing fancy of course, but it's going to cost me Ł500 for a new receiver sub and front left and right (receiver is only 5.1 but has HDCP 2.2 so should be good fit UHD?)

The TV I want is about Ł3.5k and a player could be Ł500+ so almost Ł5k to get updated, when I look at it like that I think no way am I going to spend that much .

Ł5K that's about it. But I just know it will be obsolete in a year, patience is a virtue as they say. It's just the TV and AV Receiver I am the most concerned about I don't want to jump too early. A cheap Ultra HD Blu-ray player will do for a few years until everything gets into gear, but I wouldn't call a Ł500 player cheap. There's the dual disc's in case the players are too expensive as well so that will help my transition.

I wonder if the cases will be thin like the US Blu-ray cases or think like the UK cases?

The world would be a boring place without impulse buyers.

So when are these 4k Blu Ray players supposed to release? It's strange that they have images of all these movies, but I can't find a player.

Early 2016, more in Japan than anywhere else

I'll probably hold off on buying a 4k TV until late next year then. Hopefully by then the price will have gone down on the LG OLEDs.

I don't think there's an official release date yet. Just "early 2016". I'm curious whether Sony will include the extended cuts on this first wave of UHD titles. The Blu-rays for Salt, Pineapple Express, and Hancock all had multiple cuts. I think Salt may have had 3.

Not to worry , you’re a valued theoretician…and have paid your dues since the days of the Blu-ray v HD DVD format war.

Plus, if Crystal Palace continues to do as well over the next several years as they're doing now, might not be a bad idea to wait for the next phase of UHD (HDR and HFR)....for more clarity of fast counter attacks and the flying eagle.

A distinct lack of enthusiasm for the Sony UHD BR line up:

But for theaters and on Blu-ray it was 2K.

But here we have the problem: 3D.

3D requires double the data to storage a movie. Plus 4K VFX would require a lot more and costs more. 3D and 4K DI's do not go hand in hand.

I surely hope the studios kept UHD in their minds. One because all the major studios are in the UHD Alliance. Secondly what's the point of shooting a movie in 6K, if you only plan a 2K release. Greater source materials must have a purpose.

No there must be something more.

The Martian, Everest, Avengers (2012), Edge of Tomorrow, Mad Max: Fury Road and more did get 4K DCP as well.

Most of those movies can be found on streaming services as well.
I am wondering about this batch of movies announced by Sony -- The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Salt, Hancock, Chappie, Pineapple Express, and The Smurfs 2. --, were these really shot and finished in 4k? I mean with all the cgi in ASM2, Chappie and Smurfs 2 it seems crazy that all the effects and characters were rendered, shot/finished in 4k.

So are these movies mostly up-converts? It seemed some of the Fox movie titles from a month or 2 ago would also have to be up-converts.

There is nothing in these 6 titles that makes me interested in purchasing in UHD.
Now a number of the maybe in the future ones look like great stuff, but I already have them on regular blu.
