And to prove the author's poor taste: "They say it can’t live up to such bulletproof classics as the first three Alien films,...". He considers that shitshow Alien 3 a classic? GTFO ![]() |

I can only hope the film will get more appreciation as time goes on, as what happened with Blade Runner to an extent. But I suppose the internet has mostly killed any chance of that happening.

9 years on, I still think it's a good movie. I just wish they had cast someone other than Noomi Rapace in the lead. I don't find her appealing or likable at all
[Show spoiler] .

Agree. Funny you say that the plot beats of the film is near identical to AVP 1, despite Ridley Scott mentioning never watching vs entries. Goes to show what a bigger budget, more competent cast and masterful visuals with a story driven angle can give the impression of a superior film. As schlocky AVP can be at times unlike Prometheus it has a functional narrative, actually ties back coherently back to Alien films. Last edited by T26S; 09-02-2021 at 09:38 PM. |

Me neither. When I first saw it all I knew was that it was a new Ridley Scott science fiction movie. I had no idea it was related to Alien till quite a ways into the movie when they started playing the Alien theme music. I became very excited at that point and my enjoyment of the movie hasn’t lessened since. Prometheus 3 ASAP please.

Watched this again a week ago. Still a 4/5 for me, though I feel just a little conflicted and generous about it. The "stupid character" complaints are pretty overblown. I can buy most of their behavior, actually.
Annoyingly, my brother started slamming my door when everybody started shooting at the zombie and screaming. Can't remember the last time I had a movie's mood ruined like that. Turned it back up to the same volume a few scenes later. I don't even watch loud movies that often, FFS. Mono movies usually with headphones. |

![]() Prometheus has nothing to do with getting anything. Its all right there. Its not a terrible film by any means but it isnt that good either. Its serviceable. Mostly. Sort of. It isnt that clever nor is it particularly smart. If anything, a lot of the writing is plain dumb. It doesnt know what it wants to be or do. This film is the point in Ridleys career when he started to really go downhill and either delegated too much to others or didnt keep tabs on what they were doing. Since Prometheus, it has only gotten worse, IMO. I love Ridley and he has given me some of my favorite films of ALL time. Hes a "lock" for the Hall of Fame or whatever. But, at this point he's like that old NFL quarterback hanging on way too long and looking bad doing it. Johnny Unitas with the Chargers comes to mind. Or for an RB example, Emmitt Smith with the Cardinals. Quote:
I own the movie and do watch it as a loosely-tied in prequel when I watch Alien and Aliens. But, I dont see this film ever having a resurgence of any kind. It just isnt good enough for that. |
