So you'll see about 3 lines to read through, and they give you literally no more than 3 seconds before it's gone after being visible in that time too. They clearly wanted to rush through the credits but I wish they didn't. I'd have to pause the movie just to read all of the credits in the start.

They show all of that, and you have to read it all in 3 seconds or less flat. I am surprised I never noticed that before. So about 1 second to fade in/out, and the other 2 seconds to read it all before it disappears.
The reminds of the opening credits in the latest Halloween movies. In the original Halloween there’s enough time to read them, but in the last two films they go by much faster so it’s harder to read them and pay attention to the pumpkin animation.

Thanks Bobby. Yeah, even the "Aliens" credit flew by, when normally it takes its time building each letter, as in Prometheus and Alien. I'll have to look at the latest Halloween credits speed when I watch them.

Then again, a lot of movies these days don't even set time aside for even the Title of the movie until the very end of the movie, which I don't agree with at all. I enjoy seeing what a movie is called in the opening sequence or credits.

Bump thread.

For all the grief I see Prometheus get, what's interesting is looking at how many people gave it a good rating.

Looking quick on amazon .com, Prometheus has 4.5/5 stars of 22,650 votes. Not 1000 votes, but 22,000+.

Then for IMDB, Prometheus has a 7/10 of 596,000 votes. That's not bad.

Then for this Poll thread,

View Poll Results: Rate the movie (only after you have seen it)
One Star 20 2.29%
Two Stars 56 6.42%
Three Stars 155 17.78%
Four Stars 418 47.94%
Five Stars 223 25.57%

47.94+25.57= 73.51% of the poll is for 4/5 to 5/5 stars.

I'm a fan of Prometheus as a parasitic infection film, and really enjoy it. As an Alien franchise movie, I can understand how it would upset fans hoping to see lots of Alien Xenomorph creature action, which this film has none of.

It has a 3.2/5 on Letterboxd, a decent rating as well.

Prometheus obviously isn't a unanimity either way. But its overall reception does seem to land on the positive side of the scale. Its perceived bad reputation might be due to naysayers arguably being much more vocal on the internet, as usual.

Reviewers saying its an ok time-waster does not make it a 'great' film.

Sorry, is that in response to anything previously written on this thread or did you just have a mild stroke?

Prometheus 3 needs to be made even if it won’t be that profitable. Let Ridley finish the story!!! It’s just a huge shame to not finish it and leave it on that massive cliffhanger.

Alien Covernant was boring as hell, they should've stuck to the plan and made Prometheus 2 with no Xeno.

Not a fan but that's okay. I have to say though, for polls on this forum, most of them turn out this way. Most people that don't like the film aren't usually frequenting a thread about it. Still, you're right, it has been received fairly well in the real world as well.
I'll have to give it another shot, something I won't ever give to Covenant, which was awful.

I think your last paragraph is the key here: it’s a decent sci-fi film but doesn’t work as an Alien prequel film. That’s what bothered most people, IMO. It certainly had some extremely dumb characters who were trained scientists, NOT space truckers since the comparison to the Nostromo crew always gets brought up. . The only sight of any Xenomorph we get is what felt like that tacked on end scene. That’s it.

But, in a way this is actually OK. Why? Well, I’m in the camp that believes that not all monsters or characters need some elaborate backstory. Many times it’s BETTER if they don’t get thoroughly explained. No origin story needed. Xenomorphs are just rogue space creatures that do their thing. That’s all. Them being created by steroid abusing body builder guys doesn’t add to their lore at all. Just let them be a mystery. It’s cooler that way!

We can add Moonfall to the small but growing list of films that rather blatantly borrow from Prometheus, along with The Tomorrow War.

For such a divisive and relatively recent film, it seems to be rather influential.

I loved (not liked, LOVED) the opening of the movie to when the ship lands on the planet. A great introduction to the movie. After that, the movie loses me.

I keep getting annoyed that the deleted scenes can't be done back in to the film via seemless branching and labeled a director's cut or something. How long has this movie been out now?

Unfortunately, it's highly unlikely Disney will do any sort of extended cut for Prometheus or Covenant.

The only hope is a deluxe boxset, but the Cameron factor will slow that down.

Steering away from the xeno action while cementing it fully in the Alien world is exactly why I love the film and think Ridley should be given a little more credit for it.

Spoiler:
When they enter the room with the giant sculpture on the wall and examine those toxic living tar jars, then David learns exactly what it does by dipping it into the drink of Liz Shaw's boyfriend, no doubt under the orders of Weyland himself. That was great stuff there when he finds worms in his eyes, then starts to decay slowly. Potent stuff, and it eventually morphs into even more deadly airborne spores in Covenant.
