Dear god no. Leave it be.

Also, this better explain the Space Jockey damnit! It doesn't have to be the focus of the movie, but I NEED to know.

But the Space Jockey originated from Blade Runner. So did the All Spark in Transformers and the Reese Pieces from E.T.

Just kidding of course.

James Cameron was going to do another Alien film but the studio decided to go with AVP. James Cameron stopped writing his alien 5 script after that. I wonder now that Ridley is back does this mean he wants H.R. Giger involved again. I know Giger doesn't get along with Fox and hates to fly. Maybe this will be the rebirth of the Alien franchise.

This will probably be a decent movie, but still won't be as good as Alien. And that's why no sequel is ever as good.....in Alien everything was new, first time you saw the chest burst, first time you saw the eggs, first time you saw the Alien etc. You just cannot capture that shock and wonder in a sequel - it's forever gone. Instead directors just throw in more of everything but in the end it always fails to be as satisfying.

Frankly I wish I could go back in time and erase the abominations of Alien 3 and 4 and the AVP movies - then this would make a sweet 'trilogy' of films. Sigh.

+1 to everything this guy said. (But a whole storyline of the Space Jockeys would be new)

I can't imagine a prequel without touching on in greater detail some of the events from the first film, namely the Space Jockey and the Alien ship that landed (or crashed) on LV-426. Their signal, as they said in the first film, was more of a warning than a distress signal. Obviously that signal had been traveling through space for a VERY long time for the Nostromo to pick it up. Curious how long it was between the time the ship landed/crashed and when the Nostromo went down to investigate. More than likely that will be told through flashbacks in the prequel or perhaps the prequel will start off with that storyline, and then skip ahead through time.

Dark Horse did some amazing mini-series based on Aliens. Their first mini-series was entitled "Aliens" and was written by Mark Verheiden with black and white artwork by Mark A. Nelson who did a great job, was published in the late 80's. A tradepaperback collecting all of the six issues can be found here:

http://www.amazon.com/Aliens-Book-On...9461060&sr=8-1

It features a cover by the amazing and underrated artist Dave Dorman. Any local comic book shop should be able to order this for anyone too. It is well worth the $13.95 price tag.

Another great series that was done, also written by Mark Verheiden, was called "Aliens II" and featured incredibly painted artwork by artist Denis Beauvais. A collected tradepaperback is out there of this 4-issue mini-series, but is difficult to find. Well worth it though.

Another great read is the graphic novel "Aliens: Tribes" written by Steve Bissette with full color illustrations by Dave Dorman, who is an incredibly talented painter.

All of these guys that worked on these books I have had the fortunate of meeting a number of times and some of the nicest people you will meet. Your local comic book shop can more than likely still order any of these.

Being a prequel opens the door for anything. If Scott wasn't directing it, I'd be worried about it flopping.

However, Scott is doing it. He amazed audiences with the first, I will only assume he will do again.

Let's just hope Fox doesn't pull a Terminator Salvation and make it a PG flick to pack the kids in.

No doubt. An Alien movie NEEDS to be R rated.

Well I hope he does it right just like he did with Alien BEFORE Cameron turned it into a RAMBOLINA stupid action flick! I pray he sticks with what made the original the best. A slow build up (Hitchcock style) less is more approach! I just hope he keeps it a horror film and does not try to turn it into some special effects fest just like 95% of the crap that fills the movie houses every summer.

I don't want to see the Space Jockey at all, we saw it already and that led us down a path we've already taken. We need a different path to open the series back up for more movies.

It also needs to be new and fresh. I hope they don't jump back to a single Alien. It would be far too much like a remake.

No we dont need another what some of you call a "Reboot" He should just make the prequel and then they need to leave it alone! That's all we need is another idiotic Star Trek 2009 with alternate timelines on our hands! What a mess that was.

C'mon, Fox owes us some good Alien movies after Resurrection and the AVP garbage.

Alien fans don't want 1 more movie, and neither does Fox.

I hope the reason why Alien was dormant in the Alien1 won't turn out to be that Predator put it to sleep after 2 hours of ninja fighting.

As was said earlier, Mother (ship's computer) had been programmed to interrupt the mission and retrieve the alien, all other priorities rescinded. So the warning wasn't the real issue so much as the priorities of the corporation behind the Nostromo. There are so many directions to take a prequel because you can get into the politics behind this directive. The sequel (Aliens) did not do it justice, so of course I'm concerned about the prequel. But with Scott on board there is a good reason to look forward to it. Scott could really go do well in whatever direction they take--whether it's more horror/action or more political/drama. Only caveat--any attempt to try to cast younger versions of the characters of Alien would be silly. Hope they don't go in that direction, although it seemed to work for Star Trek.

All good points and possibilities, and more reasons to keep the characters separate from Alien. If the focus is "at what point in the past did the alien life form become more important than the humans about nostromos" that would be immensely intriguing. If it gets into demonizing big companies or the government or some other cliche'ed plotline, that would suck tho.
