If there isn't a sequel, I will be utterly and completely shocked as the end of the movie "oh so" clearly sets the stage for one. The only reason there might not have been a follow up would be if it pulled a "John Carter" (at the box office) on us. That clearly didn't happen.

Fair enough, I just find it very frustrating that suppoters of the film are saying "It's clear this is just a stepping stone for the next film" when I find that really cocky and arrogant from the filmmakers to presume that

I agree. The question is when will it happen? Scott has a lot on his plate. I think he would prefer to do the Bladerunner sequel next.

This is the way I approached the film. If the film linked itself directly into Alien, then fine, if it didn't, then I was expecting a sequel or two.

Well, it is apparent from the internest talkback's that no matter what, people would have complained.

But yes, I think that way would have been better.

yeah.....final scene should have been a lot more subtle. But I feel like some Hollywood execs got in Scott's ear and told him to give the people what they came for. I dont think it was Ridley's decision to reveal it that way.

Seeing as how the first commercial space trip happened just the other day, and the media is talking about commercial space travel etc. on the horizon of reality (now that NASA is done, the privatization of Space is becoming a quick reality.).

You can not buy it all you want, but rich people have been doing crazy things like flying planes around the world, or flying hot air balloons around the globe for no other reason than because they can afford to try. Again, that's reality.

And then we're supposed to believe that it was actually [SPOILER]a ruse to get us to go to their weapons planet? Because that's where this "map" takes us - not to their home planet but to their weapons facility. Why didn't they just come and visit us? Oh - wait a minute - that's what their plan is. So we get "invited" to their weapons plant so we can see them fly back here?

I think they missed part of the movie. The question changed from "Did they create us? Are they leaving us a trail to find them?" TO -

[Show spoiler]What changed? Why do they now want to destroy us? What went wrong 2,000 years ago that they decided their creation must be destroyed?" I don't think it was always a Weapons base.

There are too many of these questions to list right now but PROMETHEUS is full of them. This is not information being with-held; this is dumb shit that nobody managed to figure out by the time it went into production to meet a rushed-release date.

You assume they don't know the answers. I don't assume they do - I'm just saying, the movie obviously knows it isn't set up to provide all the answers. It even ends with -

Not sure how you can make such a declarative statement when you simply don't know if that's true or not (not without a sequel).

This guy thinks we've "mistaken" it for bad writing. Well, here's the thing - PROMETHEUS is full of honest-to-goodness bad writing, line by line, moment by moment. Even apologists have to admit that Laurel and Hardy are a couple of the all-time stupidests chumps in movie history. This is bad writing, folks. That's what it looks like. So excuse me if it undermines the case for the rest of the film being some profound, subtle work of genius.

Most people have agreed that there are some moments of bad writing. Not sure why that means they can't say the other parts are great. Surely this is not the only movie to be considered great by some that had a few clunky moments in it.

Also, this comparison to reviews of ALIEN (comparisons obviously acceptable when it supports the argument!) is completely bogus. I saw it on release and I remember the press reaction very well. ALIEN was criticised (not without reason) for having very thin characterisation and being basically a hokey old monster-movie; but it was accepted that it was stylistically brilliant. Not for one moment was it accused of being confusing, or ridiculously implausible.

Fair enough - however, not everyone is calling it "confusing or ridiculously implausible". Many people have said the opposite, and many critics have given it high ratings.

One more thing that this genius seems to miss in his video review. If the opening of the film - which, by the way, catastrophically damages the "alien head" reveal moment - is supposed to mirror the Promethean legend isn't it more likely that the engineer stole the black goo and seeded the earth against his race's wishes. I think that makes more sense.

See, isn't it kind of fun when you aren't given the answers in black and white and get to hypothesize and discuss?

I could go on but I'll spare us all. There is more wrong than right with PROMETHEUS, imo, and I'm getting to despair that so many people think it's an acceptable piece of work. What's tragic is that another couple of rewrites and it could have really been something great.

I personally think the ending of Lost is trash - many other hail it as perfect. It doesn't mean that I'm right and everyone else is dumb. . . well, mostly.

It just means that some people really grasped the feeling the writers wanted the viewer to take away. I didn't for Lost. You didn't for Prometheus. You consider the movie a tradegy - while others wouldn't want anything changed. Sometimes, you just have to accept that people liked something you didn't and move on. You definitely sound like you're getting way too worked up over - a movie.

I do hope there is a sequel - mainly so they can show people who didn't like the movie that they did have a bigger vision - and show those who did like the movie the bigger story they are hoping to get to see on the big screen.

Lord of the Rings was a planned Trilogy. Star Wars was a standalone movie.

Maybe, maybe not. For me personally though, as a huge fan of the Alien films, that final scene put a giant smile on my face.

You and me both. I can usually get Friday afternoons off and consider it prime time to catch a matinee. I've (somewhat jokingly) said that if I don't lose my lunch, it means I liked the movie. If I want an outstanding story, I'll read War and Peace, David Copperfield, or Les Miserables again. If you are like 3D, Hugo, from the standpoint of cinematography, was absolute dynamite. I have a 3D PJ at home and this movie was done the right way (as was Prometheus).

Crap. I did see Hugo in 3D and forgot about it. It was really nifty. So that makes my statement about Transformers 3 being the last one I saw defunct. Thanks for reminding me. The best 3D movies I have seen are as follows... Monsters Vs. Aliens, Avatar, Coraline, How to Train Your Dragon (AMAZING EXPERIENCE in good old Real D!), Alice in Wonderland (No joke, once in wonderland it took off), and Hugo. Transformers 3 made my eyes leak, and not in a good way either. 3D can be good, but at the same time I feel it is best in the theater. I cannot afford a 3D home system yet, and probably won't be able to for a good while. With that said, my biggest problem is the notion that films like the upcoming Amazing Spider-Man which were shot totally with 3D cameras and with use of all 3 dimensions in mind, just will not look right in 2D with things flying at the screen in random places. Also the tickets are just way to dang expensive most of the time. If I have to choose between $11 for 3D and $7.50 for regular old 2D, the choice is clear. Most of the time that is. i saw Prometheus in 3D because of the positive notice it was getting in the format. If it had been a rush job like so many 3D films that have been shoved out as of late I would not have bothered. I enjoyed the film for its aesthetics and some fine acting from Rapace and Fassbender. My favorite times to go to the movies are when I have a day or two off in the middle of the week when the likelihood of crowds is at a bare minimum. I have never been to an IMAX either. For shame I know. I would love to go sometime, but money and time are both crucial factors. I'm glad you enjoyed it as well. I'm sure IMAX 3D is a sight to behold and I hope to at least get to see one show like that in the future, but I have to add that to my already long list of things to do. Keep it real, as lame and outmoded as that sounds.
