Thank you! That was a good article, that not many here have been discussing enough. I will be seeing this movie again before it leaves theaters.

Good read. "In many ways Prometheus is more like Blade Runner than it is like Alien." I've been thinking that, and enjoy the amount of discussion Prometheus has...ignited? (Sorry. )

If it hasn't been posted already, this is a fun read about Prometheus and the franchise (especially if you've gone through the Anthology Archives).

I still feel it was a little overfull, and the writing couldn't quite keep all the balls in the air (much less gracefully). But I'm looking forward to revisiting LV-223 soon - though I will be keeping my #%@*ing helmet on.

You guys need to read the Amazon customer reviews. You would think Ridley Scott had personally gone to each one-star reviewer's house, punched them in the eye, then tied them down and forced them to watch him boff their mothers. The people that disagree with them get it even worse. It's Xbox vs PS3 fanboys all over again, and just as silly.

I can't believe how riled up people get over a movie. I mean, Ridley Scott is worse than Bashar Al Assad, isn't he? Funny how every week the internet finds a way to make me a little more embarrassed about my own species. It's just a movie, for Thor's sake. Yet some fun people actually wrote me hostile messages just because I found the movie fascinating. I am, apparently, a complete and total f-g, moron, idiot, and obviously must be on drugs, according to these new friends of mine. It, uh, well, it was strange and a little distressing. Needless to say, I pulled my review from Amazon. It wasn't worth the hassle.

I enjoyed the hell out of this movie. Not sure what some people were expecting from it but I'm glad I didn't read too many reviews before seeing it. I might have missed out on a good one.

I think I got "high speed" internet, which was a one meg modem in 94. So in 93, when I started looking, I was on dialup. I ended up finding a company in the US that would transfer the movie onto VHS for me for $200 bucks. I was on the verge of pulling the trigger but my exhaust ended up falling off my car. $700 to fix. So I scoured the internet but couldn't find the clips, youtube didn't exist.
I still remember the day I was over at my parents and I skimmed by the Space channel and they had Aliens on. Within seconds, they showed the scene of Burke telling Ripley about her daughters death. I was like..."what the heck, that's not in Aliens - that's an added scene!!" Found a vhs tape and recorded it! It's the only added scene in the SE that I missed. That was an amazing moment!

I know - it's amazing. It's just a summer movie. Like it or leave it and get over it.

What is amazing to me is that most of the hatred is from this not being the "Aliens prequel they wanted". Ridley said countless times it was not meant as an Alien prequel - but some people won't accept it.

I don't mind people pointing out issues with the movie, but at least keep the discussion valid.

It's like trying to tell you're kids you are going to an amusement park, but explaining to them that it is NOT Disneyland - yet after the trip, they won't stop pouting because they didn't see Tinkerbell.

I think this movie would have been received completely different if Ridley had stayed away from any kind of reference to Aliens. Sure, there would still be those bad character moments - but at least people could view the story as it was meant to be, instead of talking about which planet it took place on and how that relates to the ship in Alien, etc.

I doubt they are ever going to fully explain the ship in Alien. I think they will preserve that mystery (which is a good choice). But you know, if a movie doesn't sit you down and explain every single thing - it's junk.

Many movies have unanswered questions - and for some, that is the reason we like them so much. Because we can discuss them. 2001, Mulholland Drive, Donnie Darko (although Donnie Darko made a cut of the movie where they spend half the movie hitting the audience over the head with explanations).

Of all the things to complain about Prometheus for, having too many mysteries in a Sci-Fi film seems like complaining that there are too many explosions in your action movie.

The movie was marketed as an Alien prequel. Not everyone listens to interviews or podcasts from the Director, Writer, and Producer. They go into the movies based on trailers and plot blurbs.

I have no problem with people finding faults with the movie, Cymbol, it is by no means perfect and uses a method of storytelling that can be infuriatingly open-ended. What I find strange is the amount of hostility directed towards not just the movie itself, but to anyone who dares think differently. The attitude many people are showing is "agree with everything I say or I'll punch you in the teeth you donkey bastard!"

It reminds me of the Redskins-Cowboys game I went to at Fedex Field. Usually the games are fun, but not that time. The Redskins fans genuinely hated the Cowboys fans to a ludicrous degree. I watched grown men throw beer on little kids wearing Tony Romo jerseys, saw young girls actually get spit on and hit by empty plastic cups. The game itself was a distant afterthought. Prometheus, apparently, is the Cowboys of the movie world.

If you want even more fun, log onto the Amazon videogame forums. Oh, the stupidity, the stupidity...

In fact, nearly every customer section of that site is awe-inspiring in its awfulness. Some of the people there are like unicorns, I mean, it seems so unlikely they could actually exist, but there they are, alive and galloping in front of you even if you don't want to believe they're real, even if you don't say a word.

Someone far more creative and artistic than me came up with a Prometheus species cheat sheet.

For some reason, I find that chart oddly adorable. Mommy plus infected daddy equals baby squirmy! Awwww...

They don't have to.

It is implied that he Sacrificial Engineer gave birth to the human specie, not all life on the planet (the continents had already formed, and life was most certainly already up and about back then).

it was in no way marketed as an Alien prequel. there was no mention of Alien in any advertising save for the "from the director of.." blurbs. only people who are really familiar with Alien would pick up on the connections in the trailers, as a poster has proven in this thread even AFTER the film they didnt realize there was a connection.
