So, what does officially on track mean to you? To me, it means it has been approved and is going to happen.
he might not be able to return after the hideous job he did on the film.

Are you talking about Scott or Lindelof not returning? Or. perhaps both of them?

Anyone attending New York Comic Con?

Wasn't there some sort of announcement or something for 10.12.12 or 10.11.12? I remember the scene at the end of the credits indicating one of these days would unveil or annouce something... or was it just a nothing?

I think this is all it was. Register and you get a certificate for 1 Sh of Weyland stock, supposedly a limited edition. They also give you a code for $5 off on the Prometheus 4 disc collector's edition, but it's only redeemable on Foxconnect.com It commemorates Weyland Industries going pulic on 10-11-12. http://www.projectprometheus.com/cert/

People like myself who registered several months ago were alerted to the offer by an email from Weyland Industries a few days ago.

Sure.....I just don't want to hear people moaning about how busy they are while posting a thesis (sometimes theses) about a movie .....personally I could care less whether someone likes a movie or not, but am (sometimes) interested in why. Spare me from the details of your hectic schedule.......

Ended up getting the 4 disc version of this as I had a $5 reward zone certificate that was expiring and a $5 upgrade and save coupon from Best Buy and just couldn't find anything else I wanted. The long documentary on the 4 disc version sold me as well as I loved the extras for Alien.

I liked it a lot more the second time around. Still has it's flaws, but I liked it more. Shame that Scott didn't do a director's cut though as adding in some of the deleted scenes on the disc would make a better film IMO.

But I will probably purchase it when its 14.99 or less
I finally just re-watched this, and I must say I did enjoy it quite a bit. When I saw it in theaters, I basically fell asleep...but not because I was bored, just tired I guess lol so I only sort of remembered half the movie while I was watching it. I always get excited about sci-fi films, but then I leave them feeling let down. I really enjoyed this quite a bit, and I would say it was much better than some recent sci-fi films that I thought I'd love like Looper for example.

From badassdigest.com:

Quote:
Prometheus was the biggest disappointment of 2012, a movie that should have been amazing rendered instead stupid and dull. All evidence indicates the problems with the film begin on the page, that Damon Lindelof's script - a reworking of a script by Jon Spaihts - is broken on a fundamental level. Things don't make sense, and by that I mean just little character bits and pieces of scene to scene logic. The movie was, completely and totally, boned by the script.

Legend has it that Spaihts' original draft, called Alien: Engineers, was a much better work. More blatantly an Alien prequel, this script has already begun to take on mythological status. Just from interviews people have assumed this was the movie Prometheus should have been.

They were right.

Spaihts' draft is very similar to the finished film in many ways - except the finished film ruins or dumbs down aspects of his script. They're on LV-426 in his draft. The guys who get lost in the pyramid? The script acknowledges the stupidity and makes it a character moment. It includes this great line:

To Milburn and Fifield. The first human beings to freak out, get lost, and sleep in their suits in the ruins of an alien civilization.

The ship isn't called Prometheus. The connection between human and Engineer DNA is explained. The construction of the pyramids on Earth is explained! The scientists don't get stupidly bummed out when they find the Engineers dead - they're excited by what this means for science and understanding! Weyland wants to find the Engineers not for dumb eternal life, but for terraforming technology! And the end is better!

This is the movie Prometheus should have been. Look upon it and despair. Especially if you're Damon Lindelof.

I finished reading the Spaihts script, and I've gotta say that I wish this script was the one that was used for the movie...it left out all of the confusing mess with the black goo.

Agree 100%.

Still some failings in my opinion but a better film. Fits with the timeline better, explores the Alien's origins more convincingly and people don't behave like they are mentally disadvantaged.

It's mystifying to me why they'd make so many strange decisions, the only thing I can think of is that this draft is probably TOO similar to the Alien films and they didn't want to go down that road.

What's confusing about it ? It is a WMD created by vastly more advanced being with the intent of destroying us.

What is confusing is the whole engineer stuff period. We have no clue why they are there. why they left a map. why they want to destroy us. Are they our makers or are they not.

I think it's just vague as a concept, an adaptive black goo with very little or explicit law or rule, even within the context of the movie.

It comes across as lazy writing, whether they meant it or not.

The script is much more interesting to me because

[Show spoiler]The Alien is the WMD and there's even a few different types of monster they've developed.

This is a much more satisfying and natural origin in my opinion.

It's presumably the engineer's starting life on earth. Hence the DNA breaking down and then reforming in the water to spread around the world.

I agree about it being a more natural origin. It was less convoluted. I can understand why they wanted to move away from the traditional franchise Alien movie, which that script most certainly was, but I think they went too far with it. Should have stuck with that script or started completely fresh in my opinion.

My favorite scene in that script was:
[Show spoiler]when she makes it back to the ship knowing the alien is implanted in her. She finds the surgical machine right as the Alien burst out of her and then the machine essentially fixes her chest burst wound all while drifting in and out of consciousness over a lapse of hours as the machine is doing surgical work with the growing Alien maturing just outside in the same room. That scene was intense to just read! Awesome, should have never butchered it, that kind of stuff was pure gold.

That's not the vibe I got from the film at all. I agree that the black oil was a WMD but I don't think the intent was to destroy us. Rather that the planet where the oil was made was a manufacturing plant and Earth is where their weapons are assembled. The key being the final scene with the quasi-xenomorph.

Engineers created Humans as hosts of the creatures created by the black oil to serve as gestation pods to grow xenomorphs. The final intended product are the xenomorphs that we see in Alien and Aliens. The ships that look like partially eaten doughnuts are like the delivery trucks from a manufacturing plant. They ship the oil to Earth where the "parts" (the oil and human hosts) are "assembled" to make xenomorphs.

Basically the whole "Made in China. Assembled in Mexico" type scenario.

However, the "plant" that the crew of the Prometheus visited had a major spill or a bad batch of oil was made (or both) and everyone but one Engineer died.

At least that's what I understood.
