That's what I presumed, the map they find is of 4 or 5 different planets

[Show spoiler]It's at 2:12, you have good eyes But it's still very much toned down compared to the US one which pretty much shows the Space Jockey in full

The US trailer craps all over that UK one IMO. Has much better suspense and Atmosphere .

The UK one just doesn't have the same Impact.

Different demographics are sold different things, US wants loud bombastic action trailers, and I guess they wanted a story driven trailer for the UK (maybe because they're expecting a 15 rating in the UK). I agree, on further viewings the US one is really impactful and memorable, plus moves at a swifter pace.

Actually, the most intensity comes from the screaming sound fx from the original Alien trailer in the last 30 seconds or so, not the Inception horn blares.

... and I think the UK trailer is much more of a standard trailer in that it falls back on the "big loud epic" trailer music.

Showing a trailer that is lesser than another really isn't going to help sell it. Especially since the demographic for this kind of movie is the same world over.

People in Japan like different things to people in the US, people in the US like different things than people in the UK, people in the UK like different things to people in Spain. A target audience is never the same in any given country.

I think the two trailers complement each other. The Intl fleshes out the story line. If you listen to the dialogue carefully in both trailers, you know

I don't know if this has been posted, and I didn't feel like sieving through 2100+ posts to see if it has, but it's interesting.

Scott's somewhat "ambiguous" comments on the Space Jockeys.

I think one of the reasons why I’ve never gone back to science-fiction, even though I’ve often noodled around, thought about it, looked for story, looked for material, is that there’s a nice purity to the original Alien. It’s fairly pure. And this one does actually raise all kinds of other questions, because if someone could, a being, could be as monstrously clever to create something like we experienced in the very first one – I always figured it’s a weapon, and I always figured that [the ship in the first Alien] was a carrier of weapons. Therefore, who is that, inside that suit? That wasn’t a skeleton, that was a suit. And if you open up the suit, what do you get inside it? And why were they going, where were they going?
