Check the stills. A few new scenes not seen before.
[Show spoiler]Most interesting is alien ship positioned horizontally with Prometheus on full throttle. If alien ship flies prongs forward, it may have initiated the collision.
Man I feel bad now after skipping through that thread on avpgalaxy.

Way too much spoilers there

Who knows. The actual Greek myth of Prometheus does seem to kind of fit with the movie ( going by the trailers)

The Ship for example could be tied to Pandora and her opening of the box or even Zeus's last attempt to get even with Prometheus by destroying that in which he created, Humans.

but as I said, Who Knows how far they will go with it and to what extent the tale will drive the movie, if at all.

In the director's version of Alien Ripley tries to decipher the S.O.S and she realizes that it is not a call for help but instead it is a warning for people to stay away from the planet..

So who activates the beacon???

Just a thought...

[Show spoiler]What if the Space Jockey is Prometheus?

Prometheus was a Titan (a very big humanoid) who stole fire from the Gods to give to Mortals.

Prehaps the Space Jockey provided humans with the clues (cave paintings, etc.) that would lead them to obtaining the "fire". This action angers the Gods and Prometheus is chained to a rock (LV-426) for eternity. Meanwhile, the humans are given Pandora (the Alien).

So, in a way, it would make sense that the Space Jockey would want to infect/transform the humans...perhaps they're trying to "advance" them (which isn't necessarily a nice process)...to make them more like the Space Jockey. Over the course of the film, some the humans realize that "fire" isn't all that it's cracked up to be and they attempt to stop the Space Jockey from delivering their "gift" to Earth.

Or, I could be totally wrong.

Default Imdb.com details..

Came across this as i was looking at the Prometheus page:

Scott decided against have Xenomorphs in this movie and instead opted for what he calls an (Xenomorph Ancestor/Parent) instead..

Also if you scroll down to Spoilers section you can read about the opening scene of the movie.

NOTE: If you don't want to know don't scroll down to that section:

A problem with your theory -
[Show spoiler]why put a invitation at several times during the Earth's history over millions of years to get them to travel through space to infect them with something, to then travel back to earth to infect everyone else. When he could of done this ages ago when he was one Earth

Good point...

[Show spoiler]Assuming that the Space Jockey is giving humans a "gift", perhaps they wanted humans to advance/evolve enough on their own to prove themselves worthy of receiving it. Essentially, the final step in that process is mastering interstellar travel to actually obtain the "fire". The SJ could have easily left the "fire" on Earth, but if humans discovered it too soon during their evolutionary process, they wouldn't even comprehend what it was let alone what to do with it. Chances are, it would have ended up being wasted or destroyed. Unfortunately, worthy or not...both races are still punished for the theft.

If we look at this from the other point-of-view...if the SJ are the Gods, and they are going to punish humans for stealing fire...why would they give us clues to it's whereabaouts in the first place? Why create us just to destroy us later? No point in that.

I wish he would just say it's a PG-13, he's just building up too much false hope

Man if I'm only allowed to see one movie in the theaters this year, it would be Prometheus.
I can't believe that I'm picking it over The Dark Knight Rises, but I am.
That is how much I'm excited about it.

Agreed...this is one of those rare movies I don't want to know much about. Much like the Pirate movies...saw the different trailers "once" and avoided everything else...I want to be surprised!

I'm not going to take any chances either but, as closely as Ridley Scott and his team have been guarding any info about the movie, I find it pretty hard to believe that major spoilers would pop up now. I'm sure it's possible, but I'm wondering why Cameron would do that unless it's with Scott's permission....

Anyway, totally pumped about this flick. The new trailer gave me chills, especially with the totally creepy music. I just wish Jerry Goldsmith was doing the score, as his Alien score was a triumph. I have high hopes, to say the least, for Prometheus (maybe even higher than The Dark Knight Rises, like a member said above! )

At least we have a clear answer:

Quote:
Another question for Scott is the film's rating. He hints that the violence may have been toned-down enough to facilitate a PG-13 rating, but intriguingly suggests that the impact will match the R-grade shocks of Alien and Aliens. "The question is, do you go for the PG-13, [which] financially makes quite a difference, or do you go for what it should be, which is R? Essentially, it's kinda R."

There's a clip around somewhere of Scott in an interview and I can quote him with 100% accuracy that he wants this movie to "SCARE THE SHIT OUT OF YOU!"

How is that going to be done with anything less than R?
