I don't care if they cut out all the bad words but if they cut all the gory stuff too, I'll write a hate letter for Ridley
I'm pretty sure it will be a good movie even if its PG13 but I'll be f..disappointed.
Don't blame Ridley - write to Fox, specifically the accursed being that is Tom Rothman.

If the film doesn't dovetail PERFECTLY with the classic Alien, I'll simply ignore it.

I won't watch Indiana Jones' Crystal Skulls adventure again for the same reason.

I actually forget about it all the time.

It is a great scene, and the shock value is indeed noteworthy. But after seeing it a dozen times, it's, like, whatever. I remember the movie more for its atmosphere, the design of the ship and the alien, and for Ripley, more than that one scene. If you cut the scene out, I'd still enjoy the film for these things (even though you'd lose the shock value and rip out the reason why the alien is to be feared).

Regarding "Prometheus," I'd be surprised if Ridley Scott toned it down. Most of his movies are R-rated to begin with; I think he's gutsy enough to keep this one R-rated too. But heck, whether it is or isn't, I'll be seeing it either way.

But it's not up to Scott - final decision on which of Scott's cuts to use is down to Tom Rothman and other Fox execs.

Makes me all warm inside knowing I am not the only one who forgets it

However, It is one of those Iconic movie moments, isn't it ? I mean, If you ask somebody what their favourite scene was from alien or even the Quadtrilogy most would reference that scene.

I am with though. The Atmosphere is amazing and one of the more memorable parts of the movie.

don't have time to write free letters.
either way i'll be sitting in the middle of an IMAX-3D theater on the first day at 2pm matinee showing with lots of kids(F... Sounds bad !)
Ridley said if the movie does well at the box office he'll do a sequel,I guess they need PG13 for that. I just hope he'll give us an R rated director's cut bluray.

I doubt Prometheus will be bad solely based on the rating. The film will fail if the material is a failure in the first place. Based on everything we've seen, I see no reason not to get excited. Nearly every film I'm looking forward to this summer happens to be PG-13. No sense in me closing up shop and giving up until next year because of it.

Agreed. I hope that the material will live up to the hype.

I agree with most of what you are saying.. And the rating might not have anything to do with the quality of the film.. But thinking back, Alien was such a mean spirited movie! Everything was cold, bland, dark, sinister.. I haven't seen that kind of atmosphere in a big budget movie in a while! They tend to make the movies way too glossy and polished..

Then again - I really hope I'm wrong since I look forward to it very much and Alien is one of my favorite movies!

I just read the new Empire Magazine and I am a little disapointed that the
[Show spoiler]elephant look for the Space Jockey is a mask and that it looks human underneath.

Yes. Lots of meat in that article The author was on the set in June 2011. His description of the sets is exciting. While the Engineer looks human,
[Show spoiler]he is significantly taller and blue and apparently had a bad case of acne in the past.

Edit: NOTE The Empire article copies and scans are currently being removed from forums at the request of Hewitt, the author, because of copyright infringement.

On the plus side, chances are good that we'll get our choice of cuts when it comes to disc (theatrical vs unrated).

It is indeed iconic; I do get all excited when the scene comes up. It's just not the first thing that comes to mind when I think of the film.

Joliefan, you don't have to write "BIG SPOILERS". That's what tags are for.

Man. These new trailers legitimately freak me out. I haven't felt this unnerved by a trailer in decades.

Same here, except for the decades part. I've only been alive for two.
