I remember when Alien aired on TBS and Joe Bob was the host. He loved the first half but proceeded to describe the rest of the film as a typical haunted house themed film once everyone started getting yacked by the Xenomorph. I was pissed, how dare he, but all in all, he was right. Still, Alien is the ONLY film that has scared the crap out of me and in some instances it still does.

You have to watch the cut scenes as well

You need to check it out! Yeah, it would definitely be a very bad idea!

I was actually surprised when my 5 year old asked me to stop playing Journey (PS3 game) because it was too scary at one point at the first bad guy encounter.

If true, then the planet can't be LV-426. The ship the Nostromo finds is very old by Dallas's observations:
"Alien life form. It's been dead a long time. Fossilized...looks like's it's grown out of the chair."

And 37 years isn't hardly long enough for that planet to have gone through all the major geological changes it would have needed to look different between movies. Those strange rock formations seen in Alien look like they have been wind blasted smooth for hundreds (maybe even thousands) of years.

Also, something has to stop people from going back to this world after the Prometheus mission fails, not just ignoring the place then sending truckers to get infected 37 years later.

Well the Wind was very high and Violent in ALIEN and seemed like a very constant thing .

It takes a very long time for that kind of erosion to take place in most cases. And the landscape is much too different between movies. You can't have a major planet-wide volcanic uprising, cooling, and wind blasting in that short of a span. Well, you can in the movies, but it stretches credibility.

I'm not so sure we are looking at the same two planets between these films.

But you are talking about events on this planet. That planet is completely different. We have no idea of Rock density or composition and the atmospheric conditions will be vastly different.

This is the great thing about Sci-fi. Anything can happen and all it takes to answer any qualms is Imagination

I totally get what you're saying and if this movie was based on earth I would be totally with you but it isn't, so I ain't

One must also take into consideration that if in fact the Prometheus crashes into the Derelict ship, why aren't there any remains?

Yep, I agree with this.

Since the landscape is just so different between both films, I am leaning towards it taking place on one of the other planetoids, and maybe more than one SJ ship is involved.

That's my take on it...

for now.

theyve already said that they arent exactly making great effort to maintain perfect continuity with the original Alien. the ideas are all there but not everything is going to be identical. not everyone is going into the movie comparing the design of the ship or the landscape to the original. i think you guys are reading way too much into this.

I'm talking about geology and gravity. Universal concepts, regardless of location.

What's wrong with conjecture? I for one happen to think it's fun.

Universal concepts fine but Geology and gravity are not the same through out the entire Universe.

People have pointed out in screen caps that there are several of the "pyramid" domes on this planet. I wonder then if this is a SJ "bomber base" of sorts, and not necessarily the homeworld of those creatures.

To me, LV-426 just seems like a random crash site...at this time and juncture.

It's the same planet in both films and the same alien ship. The differences you see between Prometheus and Alien are due to Prometheus being filmed on location in Iceland (Hekla) and Alien being filmed on a soundstage.

The Weyland Industries timeline shows the discovery of LV-426, Acheron a planetoid orbiting a ringed gas giant. Plans are made to visit it later in the century because it might support life. Later in the timeline "Based on recent classified findings by Weyland researchers, the company determines the exact coordinates of a new destination for long-time pet project: Project Prometheus. New round of investment is immediately opened and mission planning enters full-swing" The "exact coordinates" were found by Shaw's group as shown in the UK trailer. The ringed gas giant and planetoids can be seen in Alien and the Prometheus trailers.

The differences in the look of the alien ship in Prometheus and the derelict in Alien can be attributed to the ship being a "living" biomechanical entity in Prometheus and a "dead" derelict in Alien.

The terrain at the landing point of the Prometheus is the same as that shown in the orange radar display of the terrain as seen in alien as the Nostromo lands on LV-426. It shows a row of mountains on either side of a long valley with very high mountains at the end of the valley. The terrain is volcanic in both cases.

The atmosphere is unbreathable in both Prometheus and Alien. Periods of high winds and calm are seen in both as well.
