I rather wish he was just replacing Streitenfeld instead of supplementing his music. Instead, we're going to have another Ridley Scott film with a splintered original score. Still, I love HGW's scores for Kingdom of Heaven and the Narnia films, so I'll probably be happy with his contribution.

I don't subscribe to his views. The video has over 340,000 hits in 5 days, so he must have quite a following. I envision some religious group unhappiness with the movie once its released. That will probably lead to a better box office.

Harry Gregson-Williams has revealed on his official Facebook fan page that is currently working on Ridley Scott’s highly anticipated sci-fi film Prometheus. According to the composer, he will be “supplementing the score” by Marc Streitenfeld who is the film’s primary composer. Gregson-Williams previously collaborated with Scott on 2005′s historical epic Kingdom of Heaven.

Much has been revealed to us over the past months, but I'm convinced that there are plot points that will only be revealed when the film hits the theaters in May and June (I would stop looking at the internet about Prometheus on May 29th, the day before the movie is released in Belgium, France and Switzerland) depending on what country your in. The secrecy is being maintained at a level rivaling Compartmentalized Security (above top secret). The last eight to ten minutes of the film will BLOW YOUR MIND!

Here's an interesting take on the 'agenda' of the movie. It has nothing to do with my prior statement.

Does it strike anyone else as ironic that Scott replaced several of HGW's cues in Kingdom of Heaven with temp tracks, and now he's being brought in to write music to replace another composer's score (or at least portions of it)?

A lot of movies recycle musical cues, just like they recycle certain sound FX.

It seems like most of the time it's always Scott's films. The only exception I can think of is Wolfgang Peterson's director's cut of 'Troy'. I don't recall anything like it in any other films I've seen. Maybe reusing Classical music, but not film scores.

edit: okay, Tarantino obviously does it, but that's a different situation - as he's referencing those old film scores on purpose from the get go.

Just a quick aside: The soundtrack to the American edit of King Kong vs. Godzilla features many music cues from The Creature From The Black Lagoon. Just though it was an interesting factoid, considering the slight detour we've taken about film music.

Could someone tell me which instances in A L I E N that Ridley used temp tracks please?

The only two instances that I can think of is...

when the crew is checking the lower decks for facehugger acid damage, and the other is when the alien is advancing on Lambert.

There's a classical music piece that's used at the end of the film. Also, Scott & his editor pretty much chopped up every piece of Goldsmith's score when putting the film together. I think the "Main Titles" piece is actually used several times throughout the film as opposed to what Goldsmith wrote for those specific scenes.

Same here. I even have a countdown timer for it on my ipod.
Just 55days, 15hours, and 16mins to go...

-------------------------------------

I hope that some people realize that Prometheus is NOT ALIEN 2. I've noticed the odd comment here and there that "the atmosphere" of this movie doesn't look gloomy enough, or they're hoping for an equally moody and lonely sounding soundtrack this time around.

This is more than likely an entirely different beast from Scott's first trip into this universe. Those wanting ALIEN 2 might leave the theater disappointed (as some probably did in '86 when Cameron released Aliens).

Just sayin'.

I'm not expecting Alien 2, but from what I've seen so far it has the feel of Scott's earlier film. That doesn't mean it'll be as claustrophobic or moody, but it feels like part of the same film universe in a way that the other Alien films did not.

What I've seen so far fulfills my desire for a Ridley Scott return to the 'Alien' universe. I don't think I'll be disappointed at all.

I think it will LOOK great, but Lindelof's involvement with the script has me worried.

I think I'm going to see Titanic just to see the trailer in 3D. And I don't think I've ever seen Titanic in full length, not to mention on a biig screen...
