Absolutely. What is aggravating about it is that Scott has bust his arse scaling down the film for budgetary reasons, saying that the finished film was made for a great price, and for Fox to force the film to be trimmed to a PG13 after Scott has made the film more financially appealing (i refuse to use the word 'cheaply') is just an insult.

Integrity, Mr Scott. This film did not cost the event remotely the same as Avatar, and it deserves to maintain it's narrative intended for a mature audience. With the rumour abound that the UK will get the R rated cut due to our '15' rating, perhaps the US will see sense. I doubt it.

While i have no problem with that(i live in Europe) and i want to see the longer and original version i dont think this will actually happen. It is like boycotting the movie in the US

Yes it has.

Back in 1977 after 'Saturday Night Fever' became an instant smash, they quickly released a cleaned up PG version of it to rake in much more moolah.

Scott my have convinced Fox that the '15' rating in the UK was a viable option, as the film may not have warranted an 18 rating in the first place. Scott was careful to bear this in mind for both Blackhawk Down and Gladiator, both rated 15 in the UK. You need to go at it hardcore to get a film rated 18 in the sci-fi and horror genre (Event Horizon, this means you! )

I hope we get the longer cut because nobody here really cares about those ratings anyway. It's the local distributors who decide on the age restrictions and if a cinema doesn't agree, they can always discuss it with the distributor and change it if needed.

The PG-13 rating is too maximize viewer potential at the box office and thus make the dollars. No online petition is going to change that.

If the rating is really that big a deal just wait for the Inevitable higher rated Directors cut on Blu-ray/DVD.

Then the theater experience is lost, as is the whole point of shooting in 3D. Plus why would someone want to see a movie that isn't the director's main intention?

Problem here is you are all crying over a rating and yet have no Idea how different the movie is with a PG-13 rating to an R rated Prometheus movie.

As I understand it, the MPAA wouldn't allow that because it would 'confuse' the public .........

Also, if two cuts are released, something like 60 days has to elapse between screening each separate cut. And yes, you can also blame that on the 'Mom and Pop's Ars*hole Association'.

Something like that anyhow.

Agreed. I just want a good film. The MPAA can slap whatever they want on it--that doesn't mean their judgement is sound. I've seen PG13 movies that felt like R and vice versa. Jaws is an excellent example. PG? I don't think so. That film should have gotten an R.

I can't imagine a PG13 edit would hurt the film much.

If losing some swearing, gore or sex/nudity makes a film not as good, then it was a pretty weak film in the first place.

That said, I'm fully for directors making a film and it getting whatever rating and coming out that way rather than being edited to make more money from a wider audience. But it's not a deal breaker where I won't see the theatrical cut as the edits usually end up being very minor as we're usually not talking a hard R movie getting edited down in these cases, but something where just a few scenes being tweaked is enough to get the PG13.

The last scene in Raiders is pretty gruesome for a PG

The problem is, though still unconfirmed, we are talking about a 17 minute difference in runtime to get the film to a PG-13 rating. If you have to cut out 17 minutes of a film, we aren't talking about minor edits.

Will the film still be good? Probably. But part of what made me excited about this film was an intensity level uncompromised for adult audiences. When you have a film edited down for the possibility of children in the audience, some of that intensity is obviously going to be lost.

If releasing a R rated version would hurt sales, it was probably a pretty weak film to begin with. Alien, Aliens, Terminator 2, etc. didn't seem to be hampered by their R ratings. Why the fear that it will hurt Prometheus'?
