Yeah. And didn't Ridley Scott say that this version was supposed to be the directors cut? Watching the movie, I could tell there will most likely be a directors cut regardless of what Ridley said.

Some people aren't liking it right now because they can't piece everything together after 1 viewing (and some stuff will remain unexplainable until the sequel). Also, there's the Alien fanboys who are being unfair with harsh reviews because it wasn't exactly what they expected. I think these people will eventually come around after they revisit it in the future.

Way too early to tell. My roommate thinks that this movie will find a cult following of sorts due to the mixed reviews.

Still collecting my thoughts on this, but I have to say I really liked it. I think alot of information is presented in the movie, it just takes time to process. (driving home I was still putting bits and pieces together) Nice to have a sci-fi movie that Doesn't over simplify the plot down to nothing just so everyone "gets it" right away. Looking forward to a second viewing for sure!

Are there plans for a sequel or sequels to Promotheus that still take place before Alien? Trying to see how some of the events in Prometheus lead into Alien do not make sense to me....

I guess one big thing that would help me out...is the Engineer horseshoe spaceship the same exact ship that Ripley and crew find in Alien?

And I thought the 3D was fantastic...it was the best use of 3D I've seen since Avatar.

Same here. All I saw leading up to the release was the teaser trailer, and I understood this would not be like Alien and Aliens. I did not expect to see any xenomorphs. I had realistic expectations and ended up being fascinated for the entire runtime and actually got way more thrilling action than I expected.

I went with 2 people to see it and was so disappointed at how un-enthused they were about it. One of them even saying they expected and wanted more Aliens.

One of the most visually impressive films I've seen in a good long while.

Unfortunately, for what?

I don't know why I went because I knew what I was getting myself into but I went anyway because I love Scott's work. This is the first Ridley Scott film I almost outright hate.

I'm not the biggest fan of the Alien mythos but even I can see how useless it was to even attempt a prequel to Alien when one wasn't needed. And honestly, having it be a prequel isn't it's great offense. It's greatest offense is that we could care less about any of these characters, considering how stupid they are, except for Charlize Theron's character. The big questions aren't big questions, not to mention none of them are answered with any form of intelligence.

But, the biggest, biggest problem is that it basically takes the basic cliches created by the Alien films and replicates them yet again....for what?

The setting up for the sequel pretty much put the nail in the coffin as to whether or not I want to continue watching where this goes. Honestly, just cut it out. It's not needed.

Had this been an original, intelligent sci-fi film with no connection to Alien, I'd give it a B, easily.

But, it can not be stressed enough, one of the most visually striking films I've seen in a decade, at least. Just top to bottom, money time. It'll get multiple Academy Award nominations from the technical side alone.

I will say this, I didn't hate it as much as I hated Avatar. And frankly, it's visually more impressive than that film was well.

[Show spoiler]The same type of ship, but not the exact ship. The one found by Ripley and her crew had an engineer that died via chestburster in his war chair. The engineer in Prometheus died in the detached pod via giant chestburster.

Keep comparing and linking Prometheus to Alien will lead to disappointment. It does not tie into Alien from this point of the time line. Let a sequel or two take on that task. There are too many people complaining about plot holes because they think it's a lead into Alien, and it is not!!

Interesting question, and difficult to answer given how it's so new. My gut says no though. I don't think this is the masterpiece that ALIEN or Blade Runner is, but I still loved every second of it. I personally would put it over Gladiator, but only because I am a sci-fi geek. I think most people would probably put Gladiator above it.

We'll see.

I can tell you this much though: I do hope beyond all hope Scott is green-lighted for the second film. I don't care if he can't get a third movie to connect it to ALIEN, but I'd like to see more of what I just saw tonight!

Same here. That's the only way to see this. Go in wanting to see a sci-fi movie, not wanting to see ALIEN 2.

That is why I asked if there were plans for a sequel or sequels to Prometheus...

Considering the way the film ended, I would hope so.

I believe he has been quoted in several sources that the sequel is in the works, but I'm unsure of subsequent squeals.

[Show spoiler]Right...which is why I was confused. I was thinking for the majority of the movie that the horseshoe ship found in Prometheus was the same as the one in Alien. So when the Engineer died in the escape pod, I was really scratching my head.

Considering so many of the characters were so one-dimesonial and the fact that,
[Show spoiler] Fassbender and Rapace's characters, were the ones left.
I would love to see a sequel with the focus on those two.

[Show spoiler]Remember that David pointed out the fact that there are multiple ships on the planet, which also enabled Shaw and David to leave the planet. This suggests that it is possible that one of those ships will be one of which was found in LV-426 in both Alien and Aliens.

Personally I thought it was a great film. The 3D was perfectly used. And I think it ties into Alien nicely with that ending as we obviously know the Xenomorph at the end is a direct link to the Xenomorphs in Alien.

So now my question is...

[Show spoiler]if the horseshoe ship that the Nostromo finds is a different ship than the one we saw in Prometheus, how do the Xenomorphs get on it?

It took several different situations to create the Xenomorph....human male gets infected + infected human male has sex with human female + human female gives birth to nasty tentacle creature + tentacle creature impregnates Engineer = Xenomorph.

So all of that will be replicated exactly again on a different ship?? And what was up with the carving in the wall behind the Big Head statue that depicted a Xenomorph? And my head just exploded.....

It'll be the third Prometheus film before you get that answer. Let me know what it is when you get there.

Well
[Show spoiler] I think that will be explained in the inevitable sequel, where David and Shaw go to the home planet and find out why the engineers created humans to only want to kill them.

I have to disagree. The setting of this film is LV-223, not LV-426.
[Show spoiler]This is not the same space jockey found in Alien, and the ship would have to be flown to LV-426 for the events in Alien and Aliens to take place.
