PROMETHEUS HAS DELIVERED!!!

I've always been a big fan of Sci-Fi & a believer of the theory that we were created or engineered by superior beings that have visited our planet in the past, I have read & researched this subject for many years so Prometheus is like a fairy tale come true for me & if you are asking yourself why?
Simply because it's been mentioned in many ancient texts from around the world, many artefacts & structures unearthed around the globe prove we were obsessed and worshipped these so called teachers and their religion, The Summerians called them the Annunaki, the Egyptians called them the Sun Gods & the Maya who were known as the Lords of Time & the ones that came from the cosmos to teach humanity, a very famous person once said:
"Science without religion is lame, religion without science is blind"

Ridley Scott really did his homework on this film, I cannot stress out how accurate this film is in terms of ancient societies, pictograms, star constellations etc, etc.
I take my hat off to this guy for embarking on such an incredible yet controversial piece of film making, the horror in this film has it's moments & will keep you in the edge of the seat, for me the film was very easy to understand & easy to follow, the visuals are simply breathtaking & the 3D is simply the best I have seen on a film to date, the acting is just brilliant and Noomi Rapace really steals the show for me, I also love how the film focuses on the many issues or aspects we are facing today as a society!!!
If you are expecting to see a **** load of xenomorphs in this film then you will be disappointed, this is totally a different film & one that delivered in every possible way, Prometheus may not be the best Sci-Fi film ever made but it's definitely a great Sci-Fi to watch so I recommend you watch it at an IMAX screen if possible.

Finally for those who don't know, PROMETHEUS was a Titan who stole Fire from the gods, this was the very first transference of technology to mankind and is only the beginning of his trangressions, Prometheus is a titan & the creator of mankind who attempts to elevate humans to the level of gods and is punished for it!

"Big things have small beginnings"

It also is themed heavily in Lovecraft. Star gods, benevolent astronauts, the inhumanity of our creators (we cannot relate to them), and the dangers of forbidden knowledge are all there.

Just like David said in the movie....

"Sometimes you must destroy in order to create."

And for those interested, I just stumbled across this site. Looks to have some good info on the questions/theories/etc.

So all of that will be replicated exactly again on a different ship?? And what was up with the carving in the wall behind the Big Head statue that depicted a Xenomorph? And my head just exploded.....
[Show spoiler]I can't explain the carving, but I think the xenomorph at the end finds its way onto another ship and starts laying eggs (that is, if it is a queen which we don't know about). Facehugger latches onto a sleeping engineer, he wakes up and starts to pilot the ship, dies and crashes on LV, boom. Alien.

after seeing it a second time (I went with a bunch of friends who are all sci-fi and/or Alien fans after seeing the pre-release last week) I have to say I came out even more annoyed at the movie a second time...

my gripes

1. The story. Ridley scott should be embarrassed for directing such a hack kneed script. pure garbage. (I had friends leaning over to me laughing and saying things like "did they really say that??")

2. Characters... didn't give a crap about ANY of the characters (+ the overacting was incredible

3. the black goo.... are you kidding me!!! stupidest idea EVER. I didn't mind the idea that the Alien's were being used as weapons. but It was much more simple and nice when they were just an alien race they were USING rather than some giant bio weapon

4. Openended storytelling. I know it's the rave these days to "not be spoon fed" and "figure out what's happening" but it's called LAZY WRITING. It's a cop out used by directors to mask poor storytelling and to lull people into believing that they're watching something more intelligent than what it really is. Every writing teacher that I know (and I know several from grade school - college level teaching) says the same thing. it's lazy lazy writing to do it that way

5. the "epic" fail of Ridley scott. Ridley loves epics these days, unfortunately it failed here since the Alien universe is NOT epic. it thrives off of simplicity and terror. no one wanted some giant epic where angsty scientists are contemplating the theory of life while trying to intermingle the Alien franchise into the mix (and for those who are saying that it wasn't meant to be about the Alien series...riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigggggggg ggggggghhhhhhhhhTTTTT, I have a bridge I'd like to sell you too). Had this been a separate sci-fi movie not relating to Alien or the Alien universe AT ALL. I might have been entertained. but in the incarnation that it's in now... epic fail

as for a directors cut. it would need to have about 50% of the movie stripped out and re-cut and new footage inserted to salvage this train wreck

It's better than it just being a pointless re-hash of the Alien films we've seen before. Ridley Scott did something different with the Alien universe and fans should be more grateful.

Saw this earlier today (1:45pm, IMAX-3D) - Thought it was good, not Great - it had its moments. It's definitely similar to the first ALIEN in Tone (Serious, Science-Fiction/Suspense Thriller) than the 2nd (James Cameron Action Fest). The 3D was Spectacular throughout, & this will Look AND Sound Amazing
[Show spoiler](talk about some Seriously Thunderous LFE when the Prometheus first lands, & a few other times in the film )
on BD.

I thought the Acting/Cast was (overall) very good - Micheal Fassbender & Noomi Rapace (Sp? ) especially. Visuals were incredible (no surprise there, being a Ridley Scott big-budget epic), Audio was Astounding (see above ), Story was interesting (to an extent).

If you're going expecting or hoping for an Action-Packed ALIENS type movie, this isn't it. Again, it's a Sci-Fi/Suspense Thriller.

I voted 4 of 5, even though I did Round UP a bit (3.5 or 3.75 of 5 Stars ).

why should we be grateful??? he made it WORSE. hell I enjoyed the AVP movies more than this one. if he didn't wanna do a re-hash or make a proper prequel that fit in tone and scope to the original he needed to sever ties with the Alien Universe COMPLETELY. this half and half thing made it much worse

I got what you were saying. I was emphasizing just how badly done I thought Prometheus was. the writing alone was so bad I honestly was wondering why RS attached his name to the movie. everyone's opinions are different of course , but I found it so stale, and self congratulatory "fake intelligent" that I was begging for it to end. I personally feel ridley hasn't done an even halfway decent movie since "Body of Lies".

annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd, that explains why the writing was so open ended. the person who single handedly made me hate lost with a passion

(and yes I knew Ridley didn't write it, I was saying after reading the script I would have never even let my name be associated with being INVOLVED in something that was written so poorly)

again, had this severed completly from the Alien universe, I wouldn't have minded so much. I can enjoy crappy, but fun sci-fi movies with the best of them. But trying to mesh a new "epic" sci-fi with the Alien universe created a hybrid monster that did nothing but exemplify flaws of each.

I would like to thank you for keeping my hype for this movie grounded. I'm going in expecting a mediocre film, so I should be happy with my new found level of anticipation.

I've been skipping this thread for weeks now, so I'm all set to see this as blind as I could expect.
