You approached this film with the need to compare it to somethingng else and that is where your disappointment arrives. It seems to be a common trend with regards to this movie. If you go in expecting another Alien or Aliens, you're SOL. If you approach to with a respect that Ridley Scott and H.R. Giger are both involved as was the case with the first film, then expect to be awed by their effort to bring their product back to where it started. That was my approach and that is why I enjoyed this movie from beginning to end. And to think that a film with bad dialogue, while simultaneously paying homage to a masterpiece such as Lawrence Of Arabia, maybe we watched two different films.

lol, good boy, Hype is one of the most dangerous things when going into a movie. I can guarantee that I've had movies that needed to be seen a second time because the hype caused me to lose perspective. (one of the reasons I saw prometheous a second time... to make sure I didn't lose perspective because I was over hyped). go in and make your own decisions... don't love or hate a movie because others do or don't

correct, because that's how it was marketed and that's HOW IT IS. if they had severed ties with the universe it wouldn't have been that bad. I recognize the difference. BUT YOU CAN NOT HELP but compare a movie when it's TIED INTO THE the other movie you're comparing it against. that's the problem. if you don't want comparisons, you DON"T ASSOCIATE anything with the other film. I'm sorry but for those saying you have to not associate it with Alien.... that would be perfect if the ties to alien were mistaken misrepresentations, not reality. the reality is that Cameron was making a prequel. then decides to call it something else. thus inviting comparison.

it's one of the reasons why X-men first class was such a turd IMO. they tried to tie it in to the first one or two X-men movies while changing the direction and feel of things, thus inviting comparisons and seeing the differences. I LOATHE sequels/prequels that do not fit the mood/feel/universe of the ones it's before/after. totally kills the continuity and would have been better in a reboot or unique universe.

It's like expecting The Deep to tie in with Jaws, or expecting young 10 year old Anikan to take over the Galaxy, at the age of 10.

Stop expecting this movie to tie in and answer questions conjured up from Alien. That's not its purpose.

I went and saw this tonight. Having never seen any othe the alien movies (that I can remember) I went in with no expectations and was seriously underwhelmed. The previews make it look like a huge movie on a grand scale on an interesting planet. Meh.

I enjoyed Magneto and that was about it. 3/5 for me. Not going to buy when it comes to blu ray. I like my movie poster for this movie better than the movie itself

I don't mind all the questions not being answered right away. that's what his other movies are for. but I am VERY strict on having the mood, and feel, and storytelling flow to be VERY MUCH in line with the ones it's trying to emulate.

and as for the deep and jaws, apple to oranges. Prometheus is a DIRECT pre-quel to aliens (or the Prometheous trilogy or whatever Scott is going for). it is OBVIOUS he's trying to do a direct prequel storyline to HOW the Aliens are found on LV426

on a personal note I HATE the route they went with changing the Alien species from being a species to being some lab mutants.

end point. I hated the movie. all the friends I went with ended up doing what most people are saying on here "meh, wasn't bad, but wasn't good either"....which for the average person says a lot.

Since I seem to be one the few people across the internet who continues to love 'Lost' (and it's divisive finale), I certainly have had zero problems with Damon Lindelof penning this film. I didn't have any problems with the screenplay - only felt a couple lines were poorly delivered by some of the lesser players. But everything else in this film excited me so much that any small quibbles I have don't amount to much at all. As for unanswered questions - it thrills me that I still get to theorize about 'Lost', and I feel the same way about this. I love things remaining open to interpretation.

you know, I think it comes down to personality types on that type of storytelling. I've always wondered about that. I know for a fact that theorizing drives me nuts (one of the reasons I loathed lost so much I think). I've one of those personality types that thrives off of linear storylines, aspects of life etc. It's why I don't like MMO's... I have to have a linear game line, open openhandedness makes me feel out of control and fractured. I LOVE, storylines that are tight, succinct and wrap everything up in a strictly logical and documented format.

I'm a concrete sequential personality type so logical straight forward in perfect order is how I view and act out my life. I'm assuming people who are concrete random, or abstract random view non-linear storytelling and open ended stories differently

not really. the twist of creating an entirely different timeline created the mental "out" I needed to enjoy it. It separated itself pretty much entirely from the original universe without trying to reconcile thus making it an entirely different entity.

I was on the fence about seeing this, but after reading it was an Alien prequel, I've decided to avoid it (not a horror fan anymore).

not even remotely horror, even less than Alien was (and Alien was a mild horror film at that). it's more of a sci-fi epic/thriller

Ridley want's to make it into a trilogy so it's pretty obvious that it's the direction he wants to go.

The movie was fantastic. 5 Stars. IMAX in 3D was excellent. The entire film was in IMAX.

My only hope is for a sequel obviously and the Blu Ray needs to have the full IMAX presentation.

Oh and for the haters it must just suck to be you.

I like stories. I try not to put them into a box. I enjoy the types you are talking about as well as open ended stuff that allows me to use my imagination.

I saw the film at a midnight premier and it met all of my expectations for the most part. 4/5

[Show spoiler]The only problems i had were minor ones with the script. I know I might catch flack for this but it seemed to me like the ending scene where the xenomporph bursts out of the Engineer was simply tacked on, I would have been fine if that scene was omitted. I know Idris Elba wasnt given much to work with within the script but I actually liked his performance and the mild charisma he brought to his character. Of course Fassbender's role as david was superb, I hope Fassbender continues to get roles in big budget movies because he is quickly becoming a favorite of mine. Overall a great film and I hope to catch it at least one more time while it is in theaters.
