I don't need everything tied up nicely, but at least give us something. It didn't resolve anything. Like I said before this just felt like setup to two other films,
[Show spoiler]an Alien reboot and Prometheus 2 ( or, Prometheus...for real this time)
.

Yeah and i get that, personally i think that reaction has more to do with the advertising and hype around this movie then the film itself. Just like watchmen people go in and don't get what they expect. For me i left thinking it was a great experience and a great sci-fi trip that got my imagination going a mile a minute. The "disections" i have read online have only made it better imo, may actually need to go see it again before it leaves the theatres and i find that a refreshing change from the direction of movies lately.

Am i crazy or did we just never find that out? Seems like a pretty basic plot point to leave out, or was i just not paying close enough attention?
It was a question they never found the answer to. One of many. I don't mind that though. I do hope there is a sequel to fill in many of the mysteries presented.

I think Prometheus did a good job - it presented us with many interesting findings and theories, but moves along so quickly that we just don't have time to figure them all out.

But that's more like real life. We still don't have many answers for civilizations and what happened to them on earth. Where did the Mayans go? Why do ships and aircraft disappear in the Burmuda Triangle?

To show up on a planet and figure everything out in 24 hours would have been a bit ridiculous. I mean, finding all the stuff they did was pushing suspension of disbelief.

I am still surprised people's biggest problem with the movie is that it didn't solve all of the mysteries presented. In fact, it took a basic question - and by the end of the movie we find it is much more complicated and epic than we imagined.

I truly think, if this movie was not related to Aliens - people would all have high praise for this movie.

I like that this isn't yet another Alien movie where people land, discover eggs and struggle to stay alive for two hours. We have already seen that movie several times.

Ridley tried to create an original story (basing it in the same universe), that is much more epic than the Alien storyline - and I'm surprised it's being met with disdain and shrugs.

I'm much more happy talking about this universe and it's mysteries than talking about "Wasn't it cool when - insert Alien action scene we've seen a hundred times".

(Sorry, iamsometal - this post wasn't aimed at you, just using it as a springboard to talk about this issue that has been bugging me with many criqitues).

I have loved all of the theorizing I have been going through since I watched this movie on opening night. I finally stopped thinking about it last night. My brain felt tired from all the work it had been doing. lol

I'm gonna go check it out again in a couple of hours.

Interesting thought, but i have to stick with
[Show spoiler]running away from something since they all ended up dead save for the 1 that was in the stasis pod
.

Glad to know i didn't just miss a major plot development. Thanks! Hopefully some of that info is included in the extended cut or a possible sequel.

No worries, CYMBOL. I agree with you for the most part. My issues aren't with the fact that the big, existential questions weren't answered. Honestly I didn't want nor expected them to be. My only complaints were the missing plot elements to the basic narrative (
[Show spoiler]what were the Engineers running from, what the Engineers were going to destroy humanity for, why the scientists constantly behaved like such idiots, why David poisoned Holloway with the black ooze, etc.
). Overall, I thought it was a very well directed film, with some solid performances from Fassbender, Rapace and Theron. I just felt the basic script writing was lacking, or maybe it all just ended up on the cutting room floor. We'll see when Scott releases his extended cut, I guess.

Here's what I would like to see added (assuming it was filmed):

[Show spoiler]
- Explain more between the self surgery scene and the Weyland discovery scene. I'm still of the mind that stuff was cut as it was really awkwardly done
- Show more of a reaction from the captain after he kills the zombie crewmember and show the understanding of the danger they were all in. I still have issues with him going from 'I'm just a pilot' to 'I need to save Earth' with no exposition in between other than a few words with Shaw.

I'm sorry to say this, but....after all the lackluster reviews, I'll wait for cable. My home theater setup is better than my local theater, anyway; I'll see it at home, without any interruptions or distractions....

....but, it sounds like this film may or (more likely) may not give us "answers" we seek about the aliens. It sounds, ultimately, unsatisfying. I'll wait.

Why he'd do a (also likely) 3-film series when he's one of the slowest directors I've ever known, I'll never understand (except for the $$$).

I'm sticking with the Alien films. You know, the ones you actually see some friggin' Aliens in. I wanted answers, not more questions. This looks like it may be another POTC-type series, in which each entry is progressively weaker than the last.

Another problem I have with this series is the amount of time that has passed since the first films. After all this time, there have been many tales (and many more postulations) about the origins of these creatures (including the Space Jockey). I've had plenty of time to think about these stories and characters, and Prometheus seems to be a bit too "busy" for my tastes.

[Show spoiler]I'd probably react too if someone told me that if I didn't do something there wouldn't be a home to return to.
Didn't bother me at all.

maybe they are running because they are running to get into that room before the door closes. In other words, maybe it's a puzzle to get into that room and they only had a certain amount of time to get in. The way they are running seems like they were racing a countdown rather than racing a predator.

Why is one left alive in there? I don't know.

Maybe those engineers were
[Show spoiler] engineer terrorists (who want to destroy the new-life experiments) that were rebelling against all the other engineers (supportive of new-life experiments).

I've got to watch this a couple times I think.

Monday's Top Movies: 1. MADAGASCAR 3 - $6.4M ($66M), 2. PROMETHEUS - $5.3M ($56M), 3. SNOW WHITE - $2.7M ($101M)

Prometheus looks very strong and will clearly have a good week. Will be near or at 70M when next Friday rolls around. I see a very good second weekend putting it in the neighborhood of 100M. Not bad for an "R" rated film.

I more or less understood every character except
[Show spoiler]Janek. He seemed like he just did whatever the hell he wanted to. One of my biggest gripes is why he left Fifield and Millburn to fend for themselves down in the caves. He probably couldn't do anything to save them, but it seemed like he either didn't care or had an agenda of his own. Maybe he was so intrigued of getting some robot ass that he just ignored them and went about his business. I have no idea, but it was very strange.

Finally was able to watch this today in imax 3D, and I really enjoyed it (8.5/10)! After reading this thread for weeks now, I'm thoroughly annoyed at all of the ridiculous comments from those who didn't like it. I mean it's one thing if you didn't like it because it wasn't what you had hoped for, but to go as far as say it's Ridley Scott's worst movie (yes that was actually written by somebody) or that the script was awful (what exactly was so bad about it?) c'mon guys.

Now after reading the latest info regarding there being 20 minutes or so footage to be added, this has me very excited for the blu release
