I liked the movie better the first time.
I could focus more on the little thing and the characters on the third viewing but I still think they did a bad job on the writing and it felt they cut at least 45 min out of the movie.
if Ridley will do the second movie with some of the important questions answered I might feel different, but until then, movie still a Swiss cheese-
lots of holes and stinks but tastes so good
Also, a LOT of what we perceive as "holes" may not be and may only be "unexplained" at this point in time. I'm not saying there aren't any "holes" (there are in every single movie), but I don't think we really have an accurate gauge right now. I'm quite sure there will be a sequel. Let's see how things unfold before making these sorts of judgements. This movie lends itself to speculation. That in and of itself should tell you we really can't judge how cohesive the storyline is. The only thing that drove me crazy was ending a sentence in a preposition!!! Argghhhh...

short version...Southern Belle and Boston Debutante meet at a party. Belle asks Deb "Where are you from?" Deb replies "I come from a place where we don't end our sentences in prepositions." Belle asks (again) "Where are you from..... B!tch?"

I just got back from seeing Prometheus a second time. While I still enjoyed the film, there were some things I had gripes with. "I like griping".

Some of my gripes:

[Show spoiler]
-Who exactly threw all those images of the "star map" across our planet and when? And why does it take us to their planet for weapon installation? Was it not always a planet meant for creating weapons? If so, is that why there are dozens of dead Engineer bodies all over the floor? Possible conflict between the species? This one bugs me the most mainly because it's the key to the entire film in a way.

-It's been said before and I have to agree. How the hell do Milburn and Fifield get lost if they're able to pinpoint their location? They get lost and in a later scene, Janek speaks to them through their headsets and says the probe is picking up a life form. He asks where they're located to see if they're close by and Milburn gives him an exact coordinate to where they are. Just a possible plot hole?

-Once Shaw has her alien baby removed, she stumbles into a room with David and Weyland. Never once do they bring up the fact that she escaped from quarantine(or was it just the medlab?) and performed surgery on herself. Hell, come to think of it, it's never mentioned by anyone that she escaped and had the surgery, not even the two people she knocked out, nor David who initially put her to sleep. Kinda weird. It's also weird that no one even comes in while she's performing the surgery, maybe that's just me though.

-Vickers saying "FATHER!". Pretty cheesy.

-The fact that David poisons Charlie, kills him in the process and yet him & Weyland never seem to bring it up, nor do they seem phased by it in the slightest. Also the fact that they're not worried about going back to the ship after knowing what the black ooze does. I might be over analyzing this a bit, but for some reason it kinda bugs me.

-Kind of a small detail I suppose, but how does David know there are more ships? Never fully explained.

Well, that's all I can think of for now. Please read through and feel free to correct me on anything or bring up something I may have missed. Put a bit of time into this post, so I'd appreciate it.

I would still give the film a 4/5 rating, but I won't lie, there are a few flaws to it. Still entertaining nonetheless.

Imo LV 223 is not -just- a place for developing WMDs. It is also the Bio tech lab where the engineers create life to seed other planets among other things.
So the "map" might be a symbol of where we came from, a warning to obey our "gods" as this is the place where our destruction might come from, or a warning never to go there (wink - remember "Alien" ?)
It also seems that a biotech got free and infected many Engineers, one of them putting himself in cryo sleep (or having been, and not aware of what happened?)

The structure was intermittently cutting off communication, and it seems that they did not have the screen showing the map being built. I guess they thought they could find their way back without it, leaving the map screen with the group. Also, you can give a "loc" number of where you are, but if you do not have the map with you, it won't help.

It is indeed puzzling, but my thoughts are this
1) A scene's been left on the cutting room floor, hopefully put back in the 20 extra mins
2) Obviously Shaw was successful in having the parasite removed, and they probably know how and where it is, therefore rendering the confrontation moot, and talking about the assault too. They know that Shaw is dying to come with them to meet the Engineer, and in the end, she might still prove useful, if only as a "bait".

-Vickers saying "FATHER!". Pretty cheesy.

I think it was just the confirmation of what we had suspected since the David/ Vickers confrontation in the corridor. That's one of the few -real- answers we get, don't diss it

Wayland pushed David to do this ("Try Harder") in order to find a way, -any- way, to prolong his life. You have to understand that David is considered a huge asset (being non organic, therefore not able to be contaminated -and- extra strong and fast) and Wayland has literally nothing to lose with only a few days left to live. I think if they had found out that the black ooze mutates your DNa to make you more alien, but regenerates your tissues, Wayland would have gone for it - if- it wouldn't make you go crazy.

-Kind of a small detail I suppose, but how does David know there are more ships? Never fully explained.

Assumption. There are 5 or 6 similar structures in a row, looking exactly the same.

Well crap. I'm visiting my brother and we are planning to go see Prometheus, and the only theater within a 50 mile radius in "Bumpkin" Texas is only showing it in 3D. I'm considering not going, in light of, but we probably will go anyway.

Stupid, unsexy 3D.

This movie is absolutley worth going to see in 3D. In my opinion, Prometheus was the best use of the 3D technology since Avatar.

Agreed. I'm surprised by all the comments suggesting that the 3D was practically non-existent. My girlfriend and I both agreed that the 3D looked fantastic, and 3D usually gives her a headache.

Whoa, whoa, whoa. Hold up. You kinda like this movie, think you enjoyed it most the first time you watched it, and keep going back for more? When I saw Attack of the Clones, I kinda liked it because it was Star Wars, but on my second viewing (at home) I decided it was rubbish and regretted buying the DVD.

Subsequent viewings of the DVD made it worse and I sold the disk. To this day, the only part I find watchable is the ultra-cool asteroid duel between Jango and Obiwan, but since I pretty much hate all of the rest of it, I can't watch it just to see that scene.

So you kinda like Prometheus but you went back for thirds? I'm confused. lol

Yes, I just came out of my 3D viewing and feel it was very well implemented. The only gimmicky moment I found was when the green plot line at the end travels to it's destination on the holographic star chart. Otherwise, it gave an excellent and unobtrusive sense of depth.

The answer to why they cast Guy Pierce as an old man is here. It was not because of the TED talk. Also the mural of the
[Show spoiler]xenomorph is an altar. It was considered an homage to Giger. Does this mean the Engineers worshipped the xenomorph?

I kind of liked it too, as I only gave it a 3, however I do want to see it again to grab more dialogue that I missed and get another look at the creatures and locations.

I think so too, they wouldn't "paint" a mural because it looks cool. Worshipping or afraid of them ?
remember the pile of dead sj bodies? Lots of them with a hole in their chest and hole in the helmets too. Whatever happened it wasn't any black goo or other space jockey.

Not to be repetitive, but have you seen "Hugo" not Sci-Fi Action, but the cinematography was "Stunning". Google James Cameron and Hugo (or something along those lines) to get his opinion.
