It seems from reading almost every post in this thread, that it common knowledge and accepted that the Engineer was going to wipe us out...yet, logically speaking, there is nothing, and I mean nothing to make an argument that is in fact the case.
I can't answer definitively without seeing the movie again - I mean, there was a lot to take in.

Having said that, I and everyone else from the movie walked out knowing that had been the Engineer's intent. I just don't remember how we all got to that conclusion.

But either way -
[Show spoiler] if someone kills your friends, and gets into a car loaded with bombs and the GPS's end destination is your house - there is good reason to believe he isn't going their to drop off your Birthday gift.

But yeah, if David didn't mention the map, then it would be a pretty big assumption to make. Even if it ended up being true.

Frankly, I was hoping people would leave that one alone, because it is actually (far) worse in the movie than I was expecting with the trailers.

There is 39 years between Prometheus and Alien.
Do you know what our tech was like in 1970 compared to today? And I'm just talking screens and instruments.

So you seriously think this is anywhere close to logical, even if the Prometheus was an experimental "scientific" spaceship entirely privately financed?

Again, I'd rather not think too much about that one to be honest, and to enjoy the movie.

P.S: The Nostromo went through a "refitting" to be used as a commercial freighter in 2116 according to data widely available, thus supposedly updating it's instruments and various other things.

In addition, there are numerous quotes from Scott stating that is their intent. Scott has even given us the reason for their decision to destroy us. Perhaps you should see the movie again. And, click on the spoilers in the previous posts. The answers are there.
So our Engineer went into hyper sleep hoping to we awoken some 2000 yrs later, with other Engineer in the galaxy able to finish the job?

More true for western audiences today than in the 60s and 70s when American directors were more in control of their output. Films like Easy Rider, French Connection, The Exorcist, Taxi Driver, Apocalypes Now, Eraserhead etc. all were more challenging to the viewer requiring he/she to sit up and pay more attention and think. All that, of course, ended with Cimino's Heaven's Gate making the studio heads take charge. Now all you get for the most part is "product".

Uh, are you all forgetting that when the
[Show spoiler]engineer fired up his space bomber that a green course line on the floating star chart plotted itself directly for a floating globe of earth?

I'm pretty sure he wasn't going to swing by to grab some groceries on the way home.

I fully agree, but what are you talking about with Heaven's Gate? I can see with my own eyes when the switch stared to occour (around the time big blockbusters like Jaws and SW started to hit the scene) but I do not know how power actually shifted in Hollywood to where it is today.

No it all ended with this guy:

Edit: My God, could you imagine the reaction of posters on here if Eraserhead was first released now?

It was in the original script that the engineers were on their way back to earth to wipe it out because we killed Jesus. Yep, as stupid as that is... they cut the reference for being too on the nose, but the 2000-year time period matches.

Maybe he fell for the garbage that a movie that ends with a xenomorph, has a space jockey wasn't supposed to be a sequel?

Wait for the sequel. Seriously. If you read this, Scott tells you the motivation of the Engineers and why he sees them as "Dark Angels" In essence, it provides a synopsis of the sequel which may be titled Paradise: http://www.movies.com/movie-news/rid...interview/8232 (Its been posted before, but it will save you some search time) Tell me what you think after you have read it.
