And this is exactly what is wrong with today's cinema and television. Why should I have to read interviews with the director, to know what he was "going for in a film". Why do shows like Lost have webisodes to further explains things and and insight.

A movie like Prometheus should stand on it's own 2 feet, without having to supplement with it with the directors "take" on things. They should of given us the motivation of the engineers during the 2+ hrs of the movie.

Kind of like the points about Alien novels offering insight into the life cycle of an Alien, which then becomes cannon. Why should I have to read a book to know that the first drone Alien will become a queen after it creates a couple of eggs first?

So I just saw this today...then I came here and read through the comments and my IQ dropped down a few numbers.

First, loved the film. I don't watch trailers or clips or viral garbage for films so I went in relatively fresh. Very intense, well acted and looked gorgeous, (the Imax presentation was very nice, didn't care much for 3D, I barely noticed it, is that a good thing? I don't even know anymore). I love it when films demand something from their audience instead of just expecting all of us to sits in our seats like brain dead zombies would could care less.

But are people seriously comparing this to Episode 1? Really? What's wrong with people? Have we become THAT stupid that we can't seriously tell the difference?

I guess the bottom of it is Prometheus demands that people think, and if there is one think people hate to do its to think during a film.

I agree. I have no idea how anyone could compare it to The Phantom Menace. I've even read some comments from idiots on IMDb who think AVP is better... Needless to say, I don't want to live on this planet anymore.

I guess some people just prefer everything to be spoon fed to them.

Just watched it for the first time. I love how in 4 minutes, it asks a multitude of question that would have to be ignored, if you think movie is better than a 3, a 6 or C+.

What I mean't with Heaven's Gate was with Coppola's out of control budget production on Apocalypes Now and then Cimino's even MORE ram-rodding-off-the-deep-end production and huge loss was the final straw on director controled productions. Not all of them had the rug pulled out from under them ie. Spielberg and Lucas, but the days of giving a blank check from the suits was over. You need to see the documentary "Final Cut: Art, Money, and Ego in the Making of Heaven's Gate, the Film That Sank United Artists". It shows the downfall of the "New Hollywood" reign. It's on Youtube, check it out.

AvP isn't really better than anything (especially that abortion of a sequel). I'd rather watch Matrix Revolutions or Alien Ressurection. Seriously.

I view the viral campaign, which is still going on, an integral part of the Prometheus experience. I also think for those who enjoy stretching their minds that the film stands on its own just fine. There will be a sequel, but it isn't required.

Watching the movie, knowing the development of the David android and its specifications and capabilities and knowing details about the ship (Prometheus) and its specifications; looking over the floor plan of the ship. Viewing the TED talk given by Peter Weyland. Viewing the company timeline. These are things that make the Prometheus experience really enjoyable for me.

These supplements didn't exist to any great extent when Alien was screened in 1979. But, it didn't take long for the fan base to create them and post them in blogs and forums on the internet. There are a rabid group of fans that just love this stuff. I'm one of them. You are not. And that's O.K.

Spend a few minutes on the Weyland site, just a as a favor to me. Who knows, you might find something that peaks your interest.

Default Episode 1 comparisons?!

Thanks a lot people, I now have some beer to clean off my monitor! Can't believe anybody would compare it to PM! And anybody that does needs to go work for the NY Times.

Just my own two cents after watch Prometheus.I thought it was a disappointing mess of a film that really didn't make a hell of a lot of sense.I am sad that I didn't like it sense I had such high hopes for the film and was one of the top ten movies this year I wanted to see.

I keep thinking about this movie a lot and just wanted to say something about people spending so much time focusing on the flaws.

I don't expect people to accept mediocrity. I know people were expecting a highly intelligent future classic sci fi film from Ridley Scott. To me he delivered one of the best recent Hollywood sci fi films, that had some flaws, which some could be fixed with an extended cut. But do the flaws really make this such a bad film? I really like The Departed. It was highly acclaimed years ago when it was released and critics and audiences loved it, calling it one of the best contemporary crime dramas. But every time I watch, it becomes more clear just how dumb some of it is, but I still enjoy it because it's fun and entertaining with great performances. I didn't see as many people attacking it for the ridiculous twist with Jack Nicholson's character, or some of the idiotic decisions the characters made, and the absurdity of the final act. So why is Prometheus getting so much hate, when most people easily forgive flaws in movies like The Departed?

Default Prometheus...are you seeing this?

Makes you wonder what the film makers thought once they had the final cut and sat back and took a good look at what they had created? For as much as I wanted to love this film, instead I came away somewhat puzzled. Hate the film? God no! There is much to recommend, and the film is made like a roller coaster and will certainly entertain. It is the leaps of logic and plot holes that cause this coaster to jump the rails midway through. Especially when you can see that it is written as a bit of a cliffhanger! The production design is where the film excels! Visually the film is pure dynamite (as one expects of Ridley Scott)! I did not care for the films scoring by Mark Streitenfeld. It was shallow and pedantic. It would seem that Ridley's nepotism with him has worn threadbare. The one small cue borrowed from the late master Jerry Goldsmith was even unnecessary as it was played out in the film (track title: "friend from the past"). Still, I found the film overall to be a great diversion from the norm and a nice change from all the superhero worship these days (even though I attend that church as well)!

I will check it out, because that interests me and always has. Don't get me wrong! In the early 90's, because I couldn't find the Aliens_SE laser disk, I scoured the internet looking for the deleted scenes. I might not be rabid, but I've been bit by a rat with rabies.

It's just for me, I don't think people should be required to follow up with the extra material that can be found on the internet, to get the whole picture.
