The Phantom Menace and Prometheus should not be used together in the same sentence. I feel bad writing even writing this.

It's like the same as putting "That's My Boy" and "Grande Illusion" in the same sentence.

All this lurking I did on this page, catching up on all the reading, or as much as I can, observing the pictures, taking in all the good and the bad, the flaws, and the points created to show a persoective, and all the videos and articles that made me go "Hmmm.." or laugh my ass off, I've been fortunate to have enjoyed the movie rather than to scrutinize the flaws the movie had, and frankly all movies have flaws, but I'm glad it's created the kind of talk it did! The movie certainly leaves you thinking and the questions are more rhetorical than anything, and those types of discussions I like!!

What's a plot blurb? And yes, you are right, the trailers sold it as a Alien prequel. However, a lot of the people throwing feces at it are from people who read/listened to the interviews. They were informed.

But yeah, the average movie goer definitely was presented something else in the trailers.

The attitude many people are showing is "agree with everything I say or I'll punch you in the teeth you donkey bastard!"

It reminds me of the Redskins-Cowboys game I went to at Fedex Field. Usually the games are fun, but not that time. The Redskins fans genuinely hated the Cowboys fans to a ludicrous degree. I watched grown men throw beer on little kids wearing Tony Romo jerseys, saw young girls actually get spit on and hit by empty plastic cups. The game itself was a distant afterthought. Prometheus, apparently, is the Cowboys of the movie world.
I see that in a lot of movies. People who act like you insulted them in the worst way possible by calmly disagreeing with them.

I didn't like Terminator Salvation. However, I took time to explain what I didn't like, what I thought could be better, etc. - most people here were nice. Some saw my points, but stood by their approval of the film. Which is the way this is supposed to work. I'm not trying to tell them they can't like the film, I'm just discussing why I didn't like it. That's what these forums are for. Movie fans discussing movies.

But some people act like any one who doesn't agree with them is clueless or a moron.

I guess when you add in fandom - people can't have a civilized discussion about their different views.

I seriously felt I should call a hotline for some people when Star Trek 2009 came out and completely rebooted it. The outrage was an incredible sight to behold.

Discuss, disagree and move on. Not sure why people make this stuff personal.

Interesting. I never made the some of those mythological connections. For those who have read it, "The Akallabeth: The Downfall of Numenor" has a very similar theme as one of those discussed in the article.

That's vague enough to not need spoiler tags I believe....

Well, I don't want to make anyone feel bad that likes or loves this movie, but for me, as a film buff now over the age of fifty, I recognized PREMETHEUS instantly as a nearly complete piece of crap. I saw it last weekend and I wish I hadn't bothered. It's an awful movie by any means of measurement I can come up with, and I expect most people are saying the same thing. The audience I saw it with was silent as they shuffled out of the theatre. Expect a huge box office drop-off this weekend. I think this movie is a dud.

Cool, thanks for sharing.

How about criticizing constructively.

I was about to say that, it's alright saying a films crap/great over and over again through a paragraph, but at least say why, because I'm pretty sure a film buff should be able to come up with some kind of reason as to why they hate/love a film

Yeah right. Something was there that made this movie tick for many of us.
Well paced, never really boring or slow. Great visuals, the best I have seen lately(which doesn't involve a super-hero ) Lot of questions, just stuff to talk about... and so on. Like the poll reflects people liked it.

I don't hate this movie, I just think it's worthless, and not worth my time here explaining why I think so. That would, for me, be giving PROMETHEUS the kind of attention I simply don't think it deserves.

However, if you truly wish to have the faults with this movie explained to you, which I have no doubt you'll instantly reject if your sensibilities are so inclined to love the kind of Sci-Fi craptrap this movie is, then this review says it all and in words I couldn't do any better at. Read and enjoy:

Fair enough, although I hope you didn't go into the film with that review in your mind, if that's the case then it's no wonder you didn't like it I used to go into films automatically knowing all the flaws and pros a few years ago and it did nothing but spoiled films for me I managed to shake the habit though

Why would I feel bad that you think whatever it is you think??? I expect an average box office drop this weekend (45-50%). Nothing like the drop for Snow White and the Huntsman (about 60%).

As far as what "most" people are saying, it's getting "mostly" positive reviews on the sites I've checked out (though they are mixed to be sure). Most of us seem to have a tendency to think that "most people" see things the way we do.

I liked it and will give my reasons why. I thought it was a visually stunning film and beautifully shot. I saw it in a "REAL" IMAX 3D theater so that may have been part of it. The acting was uneven by Charlize Theron (a fine actress....and think it probably had to do with her role....sometimes you just do what you're told), but thought Fassbender and Rapace both did fine jobs. It moved along quickly (sometimes even a little bit TOO quickly for my tastes) and at the end, I had a lot of questions (that's why I read this thread). We clearly have more questions than answers and that's okay with me. When the sequel comes out, I think we'll see how this movies holds up. As far as it being a "dud" as a movie, you clearly have a strong opinion. As far as a box office dud, about $155M World Wide and (quickly) counting.
