[Show spoiler]either/or. Nothing indicates she is a robot, but noting indicates she is human either. She slams David, but he might have allowed her to. She dresses high and tight, but so what? She's emotional (in a harsh way), but so what? She's jealous of David, but because he is Weyland's favorite. Is she mad he loves a robot more than his human daughter, or mad that he loves the David model more than her model? She might be a human with an odd personality because of being raised by a self-absorbed eccentric, or she might be the HAL 9000's second cousin.

We never see blood or milk or any superhuman feat. Ridley seemed to be up in the air about it when he was making the film, telling us there was one robot and there "might" be two

At the end of the movie,
[Show spoiler]before the ship crushes her, she screams. She seemed afraid of her imminent death.
Thats points to her being a

[Show spoiler]Inconclusive evidence. There have been numerous artificial characters throughout science fiction's history that not only were unaware that they were artifical, but emmulated human beings in every way (including fear of death). Watch the original Star Trek TV series or the original Twilight Zone for just a couple of examples.

I want to see wiring or blood and guts. I'm still not 100% convinced that the "Bishop" at the end of Alien 3 wasn't a droid.

She was cold, I thought, and calculating, but not artificial. Then again, I still think it makes no sense for Decker to be a replicant.

When I say this is all happening in a matter of seconds its because IT IS. That whole part came and went in the matter of what seems like a minute or less. Maybe it was longer but it didn't seem like it at all.

It's a shame really because that whole sequence was something I was REALLY looking forward to.
I was unable to keep up with this sequence, however It would of been illegal for me to drive at that time too.

I thought that scene was decent enough. It wasn't as hard to follow for me as, say, the fight scenes in Batman Begins (Dark Knight's were much improved) at least the camera stayed back far enough that I could see what was happening. Not great, certainly, but not terrible.

Here is Lindelof's reply to the question:
[Show spoiler]From: Damon Lindelof
To: Josh Horowitz
Sent June 10, 2012, 7:26 p.m.

J,

Thanks for going a second time, but it is clear those cute zoo animals have soundly defeated us. Maybe the next time I try to convince Noomi Rapace to wear a rainbow-colored afro wig, she'll listen to me.

Vickers. Yes, she does look like David. Yes, this was intentional. What better way to piss off your daughter than to build the male equivalent of her? But enough about daddy issues (seriously, Lindelof, we get it!), allow me to answer your question. Is she a robot?

She is not.

But did Vickers somehow survive being smushed by the gigantic rolling horseshoe that was the derelict ship? Could her scantily-clad push-up training have saved her in that final moment of crushitude? And more importantly, WHY DIDN'T SHE JUST RUN ZIG-ZAGGY OR SIDEWAYS TO AVOID IT?!?

I don't have the answers to these questions, Josh. I'm just the writer.

Your Pal,

D

Do you have plans to see the film again, before the end of the theatrical run? I picked up a lot, with the second viewing.

In the book, he was clearly not. It wasn't even hinted at. PKD's story was about an isolated man in a lonely world looking for a real emotional connection with someone, and finding it in a romantic relationship with a robot.

Ridley wanted the ambigious ending for Blade Runner. I kinda like it, although I have always seen Deckard as human regardless of Ridley's hints that he may or may not be.

I saw Vickers as
[Show spoiler]human, but she certainly gives off a robot vibe.

The date is the incorporation date of Weyland Corp. At the end of the credits the Weyland logo appeared with this text: Previous footage (Prometheus) courtesy of Weyland Corp, Building Better Worlds since 10 11 12.

From the Corporate Timeline: Weyland Incorporates

Weyland Corporation is recognized as a legal entity and corporation under United States law and receives their Certificate of Incorporation from the Companies House in the United Kingdom. Due to the combined value of Sir Peter Weyland’s various patents and patent-pendings, the company incorporates with a higher fair market valuation than any other company in history.

Searching for what is 10 11 12 leads you to this viral. All of this info has been previously posted. It may not be easy to find because of the spoiler tags used. http://www.whatis101112.com/

The book Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? is so very different than the movie that I don't really even try to compare them. The book is slyer, and funnier, the scene where Rachel kills his goat cracks me up everytime I read it. Just the thought of that robot goat plummeting to earth without a care in the world makes me smile. I love both the book and the movie, but for different reasons. Yet, when I watch Blade Runner, I just can't see why Decker should be a replicant.

Probably not.

But hey...

I saw ALIEN3 twice in it's first week, so you never know.

Irony. If he's human, then he's a hypocrite for killing the creatures he eventually comes to cherrish in Rachel. If he's a robot, then it's ironic that he spent his whole life killing his own kind.

Interesting, but to my mind Decker being a human still makes the most sense. If he explains it well enough, I'll try to come around.

And yeah, Duffy, the vast majority of Philip K. Dick's work is fantastic, even his short stories. One of my favorites is "Second Variety," which was adapted into the okay (certainly not great) movie "Screamers."

Cordwainer Smith was great, as well. (Sorry, my bookworm soul is trying to break free again)

Got my copy of 'Prometheus: Art of the Film' today, and I've been pouring over all the beautiful images and information within. I don't care what anybody says - any negative points I have/had about this film are bit by bit becoming less important to me. There's just so much in this world to gush over.

As for Vickers, I definitely feel like she's human. The nice thing about Charlize's performance is how she puts up this wall of intimidation and authority for the most part, but you can see moments when she cracks and elements
[Show spoiler]of the frightened daughter she is come through
. I love the moment between her and David in the beginning when she asks if there were any casualties - which is really her
[Show spoiler]asking about her father, but masking it as a query about the crew
.

Pretty sure that's "Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?" Philip K. Dick.

Regarding writers, Ray Bradbury had a long, productive, and interesting life. When I read about his death last week, I had a bit of a tear in my eye and a smile on my face. We've all been enriched by his creative mind and his work.
