Regarding writers, Ray Bradbury had a long, productive, and interesting life. When I read about his death last week, I had a bit of a tear in my eye and a smile on my face. We've all been enriched by his creative mind and his work.
Whoops, thanks for the save, I type all this out one letter at a time on my cell phone, so sometimes I accidentally skip a word.

And yes, Bradbury is great as well. His horror is even better than his science-fiction, I think. "The October Country" is my favorite collection of his. "Mars is Heaven!" can be either Science-fiction or horror, I guess, kind of like Alien or Prometheus (though not in tone). I teared up a little, as well, when I saw he had died.

Can't read Bradbury. His prose is too much like poetry. I prefer a minimalist approach to writing like Elmore Leonard or Chuck Palahniuk.

Loved Fahrenheit 451, Illustrated Man, Martian Chronicles, etc.

I can see that, but much of his earlier work is less purple. Certainly not Hemingway, but more approachable for one who prefers sparse prose. I like nearly any style, so long as it's skillfully done. Elmore Leonard has amazing skills with dialogue.

Prometheus reminds me of the golden-era science-fiction, where big ideas and imaginative creatures and ships trump hard science. That happens to be what I like best, but I can see why some hard science-fiction fans would find it a trifle doofy.

"Something Wicked this Way Comes" is one of my favorites.

Try reading Victor Hugo (Les Miserables, Hunchback of Notre Dame). A great writer's great writings, but a chapter (or so it seemed) describing a river in France????

Oh yeah.....we were talking about Charlize Theron.....I mean Prometheus.

I just finished this year-

Dan Simmon's 'Hyperion Cantos' and

Joe Haldeman's 'The Forever War', in which Ridley Scott happens to own the rights to. I would LOVE to see him tackle that one next.

Both great books BTW. X2

.

I didn't think the movie was bad. The plot holes to me were minor. Visuals were amazing. I'm starting to think people just don't like movies anymore. Unbelievably ridiculous expectations!

I will p1ss on everybody if the way they are hating on this movie, occurs for the Dark Knight Rises. Why? Because the expectations are going to be through the roof. Get a fuoking life, go do something until it comes out.

Oh, there's going to be some backlash against Dark Knight Rises, no matter how good it actually is. Dark Knight is simply too popular for there not to be some unfair expectations. Avengers 2 is going to face the same problem. People often judge works not upon what they actually are, but upon what they wanted them to be.

Still, don't worry about it. You can't do anything to change anyone's mind, save for defending your opinion with intelligence.

I generally enjoyed the movie though I can see why it might not be everyone's cup of tea as someone said earlier.

Will be a day 1 blu ray buy for me. I certainly hope we get a Ridley commentary.

Quite often I find my take on a movie changes when I get a better idea what they were going for.

As for Vickers, I think
[Show spoiler] she's human personally though yeah her character is on the cold side. Don't forget she was willing to flame someone to protect the crew, although yeah maybe she was more concerned about Weyland.....and I think she's squished...........and Shaw is hotter

[Show spoiler]Hmm... there's something I didn't notice myself. The Engineer who sacrifices himself on Earth is essentially like us, but the suits of the later Engineers are actually part of them it seems. Gives some more credence to the two faction theory possibly??

The Engineer muscle structure is prosthetic:

“Ridley wanted to shoot as much practically as possible,” Stammers says. “So we bulked out the 7-foot-1 actor's head and body with the prosthetics and makeup to sell him as an 8-foot giant. The slight drawback was that in bulking out his face, his features became disproportionately smaller. So, Lola rebalanced his features to make him look more godlike, more perfect.”

Just saw this and well... Meh.. It was good eye candy but man did this movie drag on at times.. I'll be interested to watch it again at home when it's released but I found it to be a much less captivating movie than Alien. The last 30 seconds of the movie were more entertaining then the preceeding half hour..

And why
[Show spoiler] are the stupid people always running straight forward when something is falling in their direction?? Let's just run straight for 1000 yards instead of taking 5 steps to the side..

I have to admit, I hoped that was the case. If there was a seven-foot-tall behemoth with that kind of muscle tone actually stalking the streets, I'd be afraid to go back out into the world.
