Whats wrong here? Why would you even compare these two movies? Have an opinion but don't compare apples with bananas. Maybe even back your statement. K?

Avatar has had no staying power with many I know. A second viewing was rather boring. Yet we had people waiting days in line to see, and learning the Navi language.

How many people continue to watch The LOTR Trilogy? People from 13 to 50 are still talking about The Hangover...

Avatar, not so much.

i really liked PROMETHEUS it was a good solid scfi film. Ridley could never live up to ALIEN it was never gonna happen. prometheus is definently up there with the first two alien & Aliens. Alien 3 is a decent film aswell but just could have been so much more. I really wish they had kept Hicks and Newt alive for Alien 3. really looking forward to ALIENS COLONIAL MARINES for the Ps3 because that follows the marines that go back to LV426 to rescue the marines from ALIENS and what happened on board the SULACO.

Feel quite sorry for the young folks out there reared on whacked out video games on 2 inch screens who won't ever be able to enjoy a film like "Prometheus".
Good story, a prequel that actually works for a change, staggering alien landscapes, and Ridley Scott, one of the masters directing, Charlize and Noomi in the same picture.
Hav'nt enjoyed a movie this much for a while.
Sorry for those who must have constant, fast-cut action requiring no thought.

What an ignorant and narrow-minded post. Congratulations on making yourself look like a moron. Makes sense though, based on your terrible use of grammar.

I really liked Avatar and saw it twice...didn't lose my lunch once There have been better stories, but the cinematography was pretty mind blowing. Clearly someone out there liked it cuz it kinda made a lot of money. I'm guessing that when Cameron decides he wants to do the sequel, he's not going to a particularly difficult time raising money.

I'll talk about it when the scam artists who are trying to sell the 3D version on ebay are all gone because they're finally releasing it to the general public. I'm STILL pissed off about that.

The answer to what Patrick Stewart would look like as the Engineer is..... "short".

Will be a day 1 blu ray buy for me. I certainly hope we get a Ridley commentary.

Quite often I find my take on a movie changes when I get a better idea what they were going for.

As for Vickers, I think
[Show spoiler] she's human personally though yeah her character is on the cold side. Don't forget she was willing to flame someone to protect the crew, although yeah maybe she was more concerned about Weyland.....and I think she's squished...........and Shaw is hotter
Shaw most certainly is not lol

As a spectacle Avatar is amazing...as a movie not so much.

Take away 90% of Avatars CGI and replace it with mostly practical effects and I wonder how much it would have made.

The ones that are complaining are the ones that don't understand that Scott has said numerous times that..

The story is not about THE ALIEN....It's about THE SPACE JOCKEY....Who they where??

Sorry that this movie is not as good to you as your prized (AVP)movies...

I like how most of the HATERS all copy off of what others say, and they use that in their own comments...They do that so they can fit in with society and not be labelled...

"MEH movie was MEH"...Love that line....

I for one have enjoyed this movie and will enjoy the sequel...

Just some thoughts:

[Show spoiler]Could it be possible that we have encountered another case of 20th Century Fox sticking their hands into a directors work? As many of can see, Prometheus deals with some religious themes, but the subject matter seems to be toned down. Does this sound familiar? Yes I'm talking about Alien3. For those who have watched the Work Print version of Fincher's film, the religious aspects of the film are much more detailed and well intertwined into the film. Looking at some of the pictures dealing with the Engineers, the drawings, and the overall themes and influences regarding the entire series, especially Alien, and Alien 3, I'm wondering if the themes of Alien have been misunderstood since its release.

I'm also curious about Ridley Scott's view of the films, the Creatures, and the tone of the films, compared to what IMO the majority of viewers actually see through their own eyes. I've always been under the assumption that what Ridley Scott, H.R. Giger, Dan O'Bannon, and Ronald Shusett created, and the end result being Alien, James Cameron took a left turn and changed the underlying theme. Considering what happened with regards to the off-screen dealings with David Fincher, other directors and contributors for Alien3, I believe the third film tried to bring back those themes of the very first film. The way the Alien (from the OX) is portrayed in the third film, it is very similar to the Xenomorph from Alien. People encounter it, disturb it, and they get killed. The Alien is off on its own away from people. The only time it encounters humans and attacks them is when it kills Clemens, BUT, it does not kill Golic in the same sequence (that's if you watched the Work Print). That one scene alone, talking from the perspective of watching the Theatrical Release, changes the perception of the Xenomorph IMO.

With the tone of Prometheus, which was quite refreshing and I was HOPING not to be scared out of my seat, but thrilled and excited, I was expecting this film as the warning for what's to come. What's to come? Alien!!!!

Because I went into this film not expecting a prequel, I was sooo happy to see that there was hint of a sequel for Prometheus. I'm curious, as the case with many here with questions. With that said, I believe Prometheus did its job. We wanted to know who was the guy in the seat, well Ridley Scott is telling us the story of the Space Jockey and its species. The fact that the story is not rolled up into one film, LOL the more the merrier.
