Question:

[Show spoiler] In the scene where the infected fifield attacks and kills crew members in the hangar bay, he kills 3-4 people, the last one being the guy that gets an axe in his back I believe. There are a few more people that get in the vehicle and say "Lets get out of here!" just as they run fifield over and Janek and chance come out to help. My question or more of an observation really is that the crew member body count doesn't really add up. Where did the crew members that got in to that vehicle go? They aren't seen or mentioned again. Also in the scene where Weyland is revealed to be on the ship, there are 5-6 people in that room with him I believe. When Weyland, David, Ford, Shaw, and the "Last" Mercenary go to awaken the engineer and all hell breaks loose, where did the remaining crew members go? The only reason I ask is when Janek decides to crash the Prometheus into the alien ship, you would think that IF there were more crew members left he would order them to evacuate via escape pods . I saw it for the second time yesterday and it seems like part of the crew is just forgotten. There was supposed to be a crew of 17.

These are crew members that clearly died:

Milburn, Fifield, holloway, crew member #1 by the hangar door, crew member # 2 by the hangar door, crew member that gets an axe in his back, maybe one other crew member that gets killed in the hangar scene, Weyland, Ford, Mercenary that gets killed by engineer, Janek, Ruvell, Chance, Vickers.

Anybody that I missed?

I loved the movie by the way, this observation has just been bugging me a little

Good story, a prequel that actually works for a change, staggering alien landscapes, and Ridley Scott, one of the masters directing, Charlize and Noomi in the same picture.

It appears that it went through a very heavy re-edit which explains it's confusing Michael Bay type editing for the only time in the film.

If you guys remember from the earlier trailers, the action takes place a little later in the film. Not intercut during Shaw's surgery if I remember correctly.

The trailers showed security escorting Weyland to one of the vehicles to his meeting with the Engineer during the battle. Plus IT WAS SHAW that backed up the vehicle which ran over berserking infected-man.

For some reason Scott decided to change this drastically. I wonder why? Did they notice a huge plot hole from this early edit? Did he feel that there was too much action for the style of movie that he was making, so he decided to edit it way down so as not to distract from his main themes of this film?

That earlier edit sure would have made that scene much easier to follow by providing a lot more tension and excitement. NOT as a last second throw in addition to the film.

I agree. That scene where mutant Fifield is attacking everyone seemed very quick. First time I saw the movie, after that scene was over I was all "WTF MAN? WHY U SO QUICK CUT?". True story.

If I had to guess, I'd say that

[Show spoiler] the scene was edited for 2 reasons:

1. To show the crew distracted while Shaw was having surgery (which is why Cuddles later goes unnoticed)
2. To show that Shaw isn't performing major heroics after just having had surgery

Makes me think....WTF? Especially that scene that shows the guy with his pistol raised and Weyland right behind him. THAT scene was in the film but very briefly. If thats the case they dropped the ball on that part because if you're able to catch Weyland in that scene it kinda kills it if he has yet to be revealed.

Correct...THAT SCENE is in the final film.

However, they CGIed the door closed so that you do not see the other people behind the goon squad. If you check out the later trailers for the film, its showing that re-edit completed.

I'm totally chilled out. Your post had every bit as much hate behind it as mine did. You totally took shots at a whole generation because they played video games. Just wasn't a very well thought out post. It honestly provided nothing worthwhile. I'm part of that video game generation you belittled and I love the Alien universe, I have since I was young. I also have been as interested in Prometheus as I have been in any movie in years. So maybe next time your insults should be more specifically directed, instead of at an entire generation. Yea, which is why I am finding this very interesting. They originally filmed the scene differently(as it appears much better) and then changed it drastically to have a very different flow to it.

I would love to hear the reason behind this.

If you check out the later trailers on YouTube can spot the same scene with the door closed.

Heck, maybe we will get a re-edited version on Blu-ray like Scott did for the A L I E N CD BD release.

I really liked the movie (gave it 4 out of 5 stars) and I think there is something to this film, but it's quite possible that this movie is sloppily written. Just a possibility!

Maybe Ridley thought Shaw was too much like Cameron's Ripley, and wanted to tone her down a little?
