Time to break the tension.

Where was the cat? I watched Alien again last week and it's clear, from Jones's actions, that he is in league with the Xenomorphs. Don't believe me? Who forces the crew to search for him exactly where the alien is hiding? Who forces Ripley to run helter skelter across the Nostromo, not once, but twice? Who separates her from Brett and Parker in the first place? Sure, the alien rattles Jones's cage a little, but are you going to tell me the alien can tear a hole in a thick steel wall but can't break open a pet carrier? Their little scuffle was merely to dupe Ripley. Clearly, cats have been battling the engineers for thousands of years, and are now bonding with their bio-weapons to use against them.

Hopefully, Prometheus's sequel will address this issue.

Nah thread-killing would be saying something like I still don't see how others think Noomi Rapace is attractive, to me she's very mediocre.
[Show spoiler]I still bet she dies on her mission at the end of the movie since you don't hear about her in any of the subsequent films.

The amount of hostility in this thread is appalling. Nobody should be throwing around insults at anyone else for liking something they do not. That's just childish.

This fan right here doesn't think the film is perfect. I have acknowledged since my first viewing that I think 'Prometheus' has issues with character development (apart from the character of David, who I find to be an example of writing and acting perfection) and jumpy plot progression (which I hope will be mended on the potential extended cut). But what I find really alluring is the world Ridley and Co. have set up - from the art direction, cinematography, visual effects and music to the questions they ask about human origins. Yes, I'm in the camp that loves that certain questions are merely teased, but left unanswered. I do not see this as bad screenwriting in the least. It's the kind of storytelling that I found intriguing in Lost, and I feel the same way here. I don't take issue with others not feeling the same way, but I will not suffer others to insult me for what I find interesting.

Again, there must be a huge discrepancy in the quality of 3D cinemas that various posters have gone to.

I'm not a 3D fan by any means - really only thought Hugo benefited from it - but I really liked it in this film. Found it drew me into the movie, like I was actually there.

Most of the unanswered questions in Prometheus are in the film. The filmmakers know the answers. It was Ridley's decision to make the audience search for them. I applaud him for that.

Lindelof:

[Show spoiler]"Then, of course, for all this talk of unanswered questions or the characters theorizing but not really getting their theories proved or, more importantly, for getting their makers to answer for the condition of the movie, Ridley and I and Jon [Spaihts] all discussed what we felt those answers were and came to agreement on them, so despite whatever slings and arrows come our way, this is not a case of, 'Well, we didn't know, so we didn't bother trying,'" Lindelof said. "We definitely knew, and Ridley decided that the more interesting movie was one where we didn't explicitly spell that stuff out."

So because Scott designed the movie to be the way that it is, those questions should drive you want more, just like Shaw at the end of the film, but Lindelof promised that the answers you might be searching for could be hidden inside "Prometheus."

"I really believe — and this is not shamed hucksterism — that upon multiple viewings of the movie or just entering into conversation with people who have seen it, there are a lot more answers there than people think there are and room for theories, but the movie needed to end in a way that is Shaw still searching," he said. "She is not satisfied with the answers that she got. I think that's very indicative, hopefully, if Shaw is supposed to be the audience proxy, they're supposed to be feeling the same way that she is at the end of the movie."
For all the "Lost" fans out there, this might all sound like a familiar song and dance, especially coming from Lindelof, and the writer knew he was in for that comparison when he took on Scott's orders.

"To be completely candid, I knew that I'd eat some s--- for that for the rest of my career, if there is no sequel to 'Prometheus,' but did it anyway, and had Ridley asked me to do it the other way, I would have done that too," Lindelof said. "This movie is about realizing his vision. He's only directed three science-fiction films, and now 'Prometheus' is one of them, and if he told me to jump off a bridge, I would."

Same here. Still, he's taking a hell of a gamble, and those of us that are singing praise for Prometheus could end up with mud on our face in the end. We'll see...

Any projections for this weekend's take yet? Any peeps out for Fox about the sequel?

Still, good to know that everything that makes no sense is simply down to my inability to suspend disbelief. You should be proud to know that you are Hollywood's target audience, and the reason so much of their product is crap - because people like you don't care. Strap a bucket of popcorn to your face and you're happy.

I make a distinction between you and the people here who are at least having a good and civil time debating a film they obviously enjoyed and don't have to stoop to insults in their discourse. I guess that "stupid is as stupid does". Hyuk.
I don't need to have a "civil debate" with someone who is clearly just some angry prick that gets off on complaining over the internet. No, I'll leave that to the people with higher intellectual capability.

It's also quite amusing to see how well you know me as a person just by reading one little comment I made about you. What's that matter? You didn't like that I was spot on about you? Because it seems I was.

You're just an assh*le, buddy. All those attempts at trying to attack me personally only further prove my point. Quit being a huge twat just because you're anonymous.

I can't speak to the Predator thread, but any and all Star Wars threads are an example in human insanity. They should never be used as a reference point for acceptable/unacceptable forum behavior. They're really just best forgotten.

I play in it. It's how I roll.

Because we have a lot of unanswered questions right now, and if we don't get a sequel, the haters will always have leverage against this film.

I still love it though, even without a follow-up.

Quote:
Newcomers Rock of Ages and That's My Boy had a rough time on Friday, which allowed Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted to easily retain the top spot at the box office. The animated three-quel fell 52 percent to an estimated $10.03 million, which brings its eight-day total to a very solid $95 million. That total is a bit ahead of Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa's $90.04 million, though the gap will probably begin to narrow once Brave debuts next Friday. Madagascar 3 should wind up with around $33 million for the three-day frame.

Prometheus held on to second place, though it plummeted 73 percent to $5.83 million. That's a much steeper Friday-to-Friday decline than Super 8 (51 percent) or Inception (40 percent), and it was also remarkably a tad below last June's front-loaded intergalactic adventure Green Lantern (72 percent). Prometheus has now earned $74.5 million overall, and it should grab close to $20 million for the weekend.

In third place, Rock of Ages grossed a paltry $5.35 million from 3,470 locations. That's a fraction of Hairspray's $10.98 million and Mamma Mia!'s $9.87 million, and it's about on par with last Fall's more modest Footloose ($5.43 million). Rock of Ages will likely finish the weekend with around $15 million in the bank.

That's My Boy was just as bad, if not worse, than Rock of Ages. The R-rated comedy debuted to an estimated $4.6 million from 3,030 locations, which is the lowest opening for an Adam Sandler live-action comedy in at least a decade. It was also just over half of Sandler's last R-rated effort Funny People ($8.69 million), which is widely considered one of his biggest flops to date. The movie could finish the weekend with under $13 million, which would be a truly devastating result from one of the most consistent box office performers of the past decade.

Rounding out the Top Five, Snow White and the Huntsman fell 47 percent to an estimated $4 million, which brings the movie's total to $112.8 million. MIB 3 and The Avengers both eased 35 percent—the Will Smith action comedy added $2.8 million for a total of $145.5 million, while the blockbuster superhero team-up earned $2.2 million for an overall tally of $580.1 million.

Moonrise Kingdom expanded to 178 locations and was up 33 percent to $618,000. The Wes Anderson movie has now earned $5.22 million.

Hopefully, Prometheus's sequel will address this issue.

What's interesting about the cat Jones from A L I E N, is that I have always thought that letting it roam freely on board that big ass ship with hundreds of thousands of places for it hide and take a nap in(BTW how the hell did it close that locker door behind it???), is a huge plot hole in itself. Can you imagine right before they enter hypersleep they notice that the cat is missing? So then they would have to waste how many hours hunting it down crawling through air ducts and whatnot?

Did anybody else think that this was a bit odd?

Regardless A L I E N is STILL my #2 favorite film.

_____________

Now back to Prometheus-

Regarding a possible homage to ALIEN...I thought that it was pretty darn cool to show that storm raging outside the Prometheus ship through it's cockpit windows several times during it's passage.

A very nice touch in my opinion.
