His verbal poke at the interviewer about failure to communicate could mean "you idiot didn't you hear me the first time, I said no, you can find extended/deleted scenes via the menu.:

"Maybe. But I’m so happy with this engine, the way it is right now. I think it’s fine. I think it works. It can go in a section where, if you really want to tap in, look at the menu. To see how things are long, and it’s too long," he said. "Dramatically, I’m about putting bums on seats. For me to separate my idea of commerce from art—I’d be a fool. You can’t do that. To say, 'Screw the audience.' You can’t do that. 'Am I communicating?' is the question. Am I communicating? Because if I’m not, I need to address it."

I don't think we can be sure until the BD specs are released. Based on the extended cut of Alien on BD, an extended cut of Prometheus may not be an imrovement.
Yea, I was thinking that by him putting out an EE cut only several months afterwards, he then opens himself up to critical second guessing by everyone for not having that one as the final cut.

Which is why I am doubtful that he would even consider it.

Now...many years from now...that's a different story.

The fact that he even mentions "the long version" shows that he's obviously thinking about it. We'll just have to wait and see.

Just saw it. I'd give it a 4 of 5 stars. I really enjoyed it. I thought that the acting was great and the cinematography was amazing. Prometheus just looks wonderful. Did it answer every question? No, but I think it did a job setting up a sequel and it did explain stuff in alien (at least I thought so).

The only thing Prometheus is lacking is intensity. It is intense, but the trailers make it seem 100x more scary/intense then the movie actually is. I will be picking this up on blu-ray.

See... now that is the kind of stuff that needed to be expressly detailed in the film. There was so much more detail to be flushed out of the relationship between the two specific races in question and it just all falls apart for me without understanding that relationship further.

In my opinion,
[Show spoiler]David should have been able to talk to the "maker" and have a conversation with him that would have ended up triggering the attack. The fact that the "maker" just attacks without an explanation to the viewer
is ludicrous and lazy filmmaking.

I just saw this film having so much more potential for truly thought provoking commentary instead of just creating largely vague "what did this mean" and "why did this happen" queries.

One of the reasons i love it. Makes people think.
And all the discussions we are having, that is why i like movies like this.
I cant remember the last time i had a movie stick around so long in my head.

Does it irritate you that the vast majority gave it high marks in the poll?

Well, to be fair, a poll for a movie should be conducted at least twice. Once when it releases, then once again a year later. Sometimes people initially overvalue or undervalue something they experience, and later on they put it into its proper perspective (subjective to each individual's tastes of course).

Oh wow! Really!

The first time I read that I was wondering where in the movie that happened.

I reread that........

EXACTLY!

Which is what I am doing. I am going to wait awhile to let it digest some more before I post in the poll.

I will watch it a few more times(Blu-ray most likely). And more importantly, listen to your guys discussions about. I like to keep an open mind.

I really wish that the Academy Awards would do that. Give them an extra year or so to let films gel a bit.

If they did that, you sure can bet there would be a hell of a lot of winner changes.

Case in point with me- When I walked out of the theater opening day after seeing Return of the Jedi, I would have put in my top ten. Now I venomously despise it, and after watching it on Blu-ray, have vowed to never watch it again.

Generally, my opinions of movies I see pretty much stick. Even the Star Wars prequels have remained steady in my opinion of them, i.e. - Ep. I gets by on nostalgia, even if the acting seems stiffer than when I was 15, Ep. II was disappointing with it's poor love story and cartoonish effects, & Ep. III was a thrilling, if flawed conclusion.

One instance where my opinion definitely shifted was Kill Bill: Volume 2. I was let down when I saw it in theaters, but months later on DVD I thought it was amazing (and it's now one my favorite films).

Just got home from the theater. I haven't been this disappointed by a movie in a long time. What a waste of my time and money.

Saw it last night in IMAX 3D. Liked the movie a lot, and I was glad they didn't try to answer too many questions. I like that it has it's own contained story, and that it focused on that instead of pushing fan service like the Star Wars prequels did.

Kill Bill: Volume 2 is in my top ten(though since day one) fantastic script!

Kinda funny, since Volume 1 is not even in my top 100.

I've done both. I put too much value into Avatar initially (8/10) then later on decided I didn't t care for it as much (6/10).

With Dark City, it was the opposite. I would have probably given it a 6.5 or 7 on my initial viewing, thinking it somewhat dull and overrated. But it just kept coming back to me over the course of a month or so and I gave it another go. Now it's easily a 9/10 in my book.

These are the exceptions rather than the rule though. Most films are what they are going to be for me the first time I see them.

Blasphemy! Unaltered Jedi is in my top 100. Saw it seven times in the summer of its release!

Please read posts 3716 and 4173 in this thread. In the interview, Ridley said explicitly including the reason for the Engineers decision would have been too "on the nose". Lindelof could have been explicit, but Ridley preferred to be enigmatic by including the date of the Prometheus landing and Janek's scene with the the tree and the carbon dating of
[Show spoiler]the Engineer remains
. The clues are all there. Some of us got it, and some of us didn't. As Lindelof said, he would have written either way, explicitly or enigmaticly. I, for one, would have been very disappointed if they gave me all the answers in the movie.

I have yet to see this one, and I heard that there are TWO different cuts of it, and apparently one is a whole lot better than the other.

So...which cut is the best for me to view?

Watch the director's cut. The theatrical gives away too much too soon.

I'm all for getting as much as possible on a BD, but for a single release, I'm not going to get my hopes up. As you say, somewhere down the road we'll probably get some kind of an Anthology as we got for the Alien films; that includes the laser disk archives and O'Bannon's complete original Alien screenplay.
