I'm sick of no stand alone alien sequels

Where would a Prometheus sequel fit in to Scott's schedule? After Moses? Before the Bladerunner project? Clearly we are going to see a continuation of broad theological/philosophical themes. When you're in your 70's, it comes with the territory. What, if anything, comes next?

If only Ridley knew the secret to everlasting life. Then he could keep making beautiful movies forever, but alas. I love the world of the Alien films and would love to see his vision for Prometheus completed. A Blade Runner sequel sounds intriguing, but the original film already tells a complete story, so I could hold off on that for awhile. He seems keen on doing the Moses story and I too would love to see his vision for that, but ultimately I would still prefer a sequel to Prometheus before anything else. As for a possible Monopoly movie, I will kindly reserve judgement for that. So many movies, so little time.

I mentioned some potential Oscar consideration for Prometheus in an earlier post. Seems that I am not the only one who thinks so. http://thefilmexperience.net/blog/20...scar-play.html

Re Bladerunner. I would like to see Ridley revisit the grungy, seamy world again, but without the same characters. Not a prequel or a sequel, but a film that has the same relationship that Prometheus has to Alien. The only links I would like to keep are the Tyrell Corp and the replicants.

just got back from a luxury theater (Ballast Point pale ale tappin)
Liked the movie, but not what I remembered from the trailers.

[Show spoiler]Really thought Vickers was going to be an Android. Fassbender was good, thought he would defy himself not having a soul, but came forth experimenting with part of crew.
Did I miss somethin' with the title of Lv-426? it was a different title.

I think he means Brave but I think the fact that it's Rated R hurt it more than a big animated film coming out this past weekend did.

No, what hurt it was the fact that most people didn't see past the surface, most people wanted Alien 5, and some of the poorer story choices highlighted perceived issues with the film as a whole.

It was also marketed very poorly. Everybody I talked to prior to the release either didn't know what it was exactly, or didn't know what it was at all.

And Brave didn't even factor. There is nothing like Prometheus out right now, hence it cannot stand on its own two feet.

Maybe not Alien 5, but, maybe a bit more of a real link to the ALIEN films that Prometheus actually gave us. If it has little (nearly nothing) to do with the Alien series, why even write it as such? Ridley would likely respond with something like "To expand upon concepts and ideas presented in the original storiy."

But, really, the biggest reason that Promie is/was tied to Alien is $$$$$$.

I read conflicting reports from every side during and after production as to the nature of this film, it's plot, and it's ties to Alien. What did they expect to happen, when it seems that most of the crew had no idea what they were filming, either, other than "it looks pretty/cool/deep".

In fact, re: Prometheus, I've heard all of the following statements made, in regard to the film, by both the films' creators as well as it's viewers (both fans and detractors)....

"It's an Alien film."

"It's an Alien prequel."

"It's not an Alien film."

"It's not an Alien prequel."

"It tells the story of the Space Jockey in Alien."

"It doesn't tell the story of the Space Jockey from Alien."

"It's confusingly deep."

"It's really very shallow."

The reason I didn't enjoy it, and really have no interest anymore, is because of it's LACK of direct & telling ties to Alien, even if it wasn't quite Alien 5. But, I never asked for Alien 5....I wanted the answers that Scott promised about the Alien creatures, but didn't deliver. Well, actually, there were some answers, but they only brought....drumroll please....MORE QUESTIONS.

I really hate that

Domestic gross (adjusted for inflation):

1 Alien Fox $249,101,000
2 Aliens Fox $181,797,600
3 Prometheus Fox $108,547,000
4 Alien 3 Fox $105,867,600
5 Alien Vs. Predator Fox $102,388,900
6 Alien Resurrection Fox $82,470,900
7 Aliens Vs. Predator - Requiem Fox $46,914,300

http://www.boxofficemojo.com/franchi.../?id=alien.htm

The list above is pretty close to how I'd rank the franchise myself. Although, Prometheus would be in 2nd place and Aliens in 3rd.

Lemmy:
Thank you for articulating your disappointment in a well reasoned post. It's nice to have someone on your side of the issue that posts like that. Rants are useless.

Monk:
It's not enough to motivate the suits, trust me. I work in medicine. Even marginal profits are looked at as a loss as far as the bean counters are concerned. Why continue with a dialysis unit makes $1 million a year when you can have a cardiac unit that can make $20 million a year.

It's just how those kinds of people think.

Arent we counting our chickens before they hatch?

We still have Blu-Ray/DVD sales to look forward to and those matter do they not?

If I remember correctly didnt the first Austin Powers film bomb in theaters but have insanely high DVD sales? and wasn't it the DVD sales that brought along the sequel?

It's more fun to sing doom and gloom.

Personally, I believe we will get a sequel. The question is - when? Sir Ridley certainly seems to have quite a few projects on his plate. I hope we get it soon rather than later.

Same with the Matrix. It did fine in theaters, but it was the home video market where it really shined. But those instances are rare. Most films don't get that second life, and I think Prometheus is going end up like Blade Runner; appreciated better long after the fact.

I just don't see a bright future here, but I hope you optimists prove me wrong.

Honestly, I'm just glad that Prometheus has done as well as it has.

I love the film; have seen it 4 times already...will go see it again at least once while it's still in theaters. Also a day one buy on Blu-ray.

As for the sequel, I don't mind if it gets made or not. Prometheus stands on its own just fine, IMO. If it does get made, I hope it gets done by Ridley Scott and no one else...rather than have another franchise that Fox spends the next 20 years ruining (Engineers Vs Predator).

As a die-hard Alien fan for the last 30 years or so, I got exactly what I wanted out of Prometheus and then some.

Right there with yah Monk.

If my current school quarter hadn't started, I probably would go see this a third time (something I haven't done with a movie since Terminator 2).

Other issues aside (changing demographics, opening dates, etc.), "R" ratings DO hurt at the box office. This movie certainly didn't over perform and the person who mentioned bean counters was pretty much dead on. If you can make 50% on an investment and you have a 20% on line....get in line.

A PG 13 rating, which I think this one deserved, would have dramatically increased revenue. There won't be an "R" rated sequel and I feel pretty sure there will be an edgy, PG 13 sequel.

On to the next film....
