Yeah, and unfortunately, this turn-out may just shift the FOX execs back into the "PG13 or less mentality" that we were so afraid of before. Other movies are going to suffer as a result methinks.

And yes, I also agree with you (and Ridley) on the end result in this case being nothing more than a strong PG13. The MPAA is nuts.

"Get their house in order," indeed.

I am STUNNED to see so many 4 star ratings for this film. I saw it last night for the 1st time and I gotta be honest, I thought it was kinda mediocre. Just my opinion of course....Now, I happen to LOVE the 1st 2 Alien films, the 3rd one I find so/so and the 4th one, eh, dont wanna talk about it.

I need to rewatch Alien 3 again to determine where I would rank Prometheus....this is a tough call here....

But no surprise if a sequel is getting made for Prometheus, I mean, its done quite well, but I tell ya, I think if this film was released in July/early August, Id think it would have its hands full in the money its making these days....I think they timed it perfectly with a June release...

Maybe. I guess it depends on what is in the 20 or so minutes in the deleted scenes. Do we know when those parts were "removed" from the film? Was it right before it went to the MPAA to achieve a PG-13? IF there is nothing in those 20 minutes of "rating challenging content" then i agree, PG-13.

It scores a 75% or so average at IMDB and RT, which is consistent with the poll on this thread, so four stars (80%) is about right.

It had a few too many graphic scenes (cesarean operation) to be a PG-13. Scott should have just gone balls to the wall and gone hard R rating.

The only thing that comes to mind is when Zombie Fifield starts bashing peoples heads in.

Hey, Chris Evans did some torch scenes in FF and that wasn't an R

Bottom line, this really wasn't (IMO) an R rated film. Now if the rumored scene with Charlize Theron.....well, maybe it makes some more dough...if artistically done.....

I finally saw Prometheus yesterday and loved it! The way it tied things together was great. The atmosphere of the movie and acting were both top notch. I agree that even without a sequel it stand on it's own. That being said, here's my idea on where the story goes from here:
[Show spoiler]
The ship with Shaw and David has living Engineers on it. They want to destroy Shaw and David and take the ship back for the first part of the film. Then one of the Engineers gets impregnated with a Xenomorph and all hell breaks lose. The Engineers are forced to team with Shaw and David to destroy the Aliens. In the end only Shaw is left and she wants to ensure that the Xenomorphs do not make it to an inhabited planet so she gets in the "space jockey" cockpit and crashes the ship into the planet from Alien thus leading into the original Alien series.

I really enjoyed this movie as long as there more movies to come to fill in some gaps!!! Ridley needs to keep doing more scifi :-)

I watched Alien last night for the first time since seeing Prometheus. I just can't believe how good Alien looks after 33 years, especially in HD. Ridley truly made a timeless masterpiece. I must admit that watching Prometheus has actually enhanced Alien for me (especially the Derelict scene), rather than ruin it (like the Star Wars prequels ruined the entire franchise). IMO, Ridley did a good job with Prometheus by focusing on something other than well-established icons.

Completely agree. This film made Alien better while SW was significantly weakened by its prequels (and unfortunately, the alterations to the original SW trilogy makes forgetting the prequels impossible).

"Clearly something is in the works for this October 11, but Eyerman is keeping mum on details. "Yeah, something new happens at that time," he says. "I can’t say what but we’ll be doing a lot as a lead-up to that in the next three months."
