I supose it's a good idea not to do a prequel, because as others said it'd never live up to expectations. However a prequel would have been amazing nonetheless and it now feels a bit wasted and are unlikely to ever get one.

I have a feeling Scott felt forced to make it original due to the lower PG-13 rating demanded by Fox, because you could never do an Alien movie with that rating.

Sort of like how the "Jagged Edge" sequel became "Physical Evidence" after none of the cast came back, or how "Cannonball Run III" became "Speed Zone" after Burt Reynolds didn't come back.

When they announced the Alien prequels there was talk of them being a trilogy. Has anyone stated whether or not this Prometheus is planned to be a trilogy or a single movie?

Does Ridley Scott do trilogies ? Cause I can't think of one he has done.

It was only 2 prequels they were talking about.

I also doubt Fox will want to pour money in 2 movies on an original Sci-Fi movie. So it will probably only be a one off first off.

***Midichlorian count*** anyone?
Agreed. The worst thing Lucas ever did to SW was to rob the force of it's mystical elements, turn it into a science, and declare that you're either born with it or without it.

This change might be a blessing in disguise.

No idea what the rating would be. I wish they had given just a few details about what the plot involves, because the way Scott described it as having "strands of Alien's DNA" is pretty vague. But hell, I'm excited that he's excited to do another sci-fi movie again.

Well the thing is, we saw the alien series from the point of view of ripley, I mean, I always thought that a sequel to Resurrection with a now half alien ripley would tie and bring the series full circle, there is no better time than now to discover the alien's origin now that ripley is half one of them, maybe fox got sucked into the idea of prequels due to the success of star wars and star treck ok...,now having said this...

People need to understand that we saw one point of view, one alien's life cycle. I always thought there was s greater and bigger concept outside weyland yutani, space jockey, and planetary resources. I think again this movie should break away from the series, but I also know that Scott will never turn it 100% away from Alien!! The so called "Alien" DNA probably still does referes to the space jockey. I think he just exploring new concept, I think we are used to the egg, the facehugger, drone, queen, ripley, all the elements we know of the series, trust me I am concerned but we need to see how this movie will
play out, we can't dodge it if we have not seen it!!!

Prometheus was a Titan who sided with the Greek Gods in the Titanomachy - the war which ended with Zeus overthrowing Cronos and establishing his rule. Prometheus, for siding with Zeus, was allowed to remain in Olympus. Later, he took pity on humanity, who were at this point in their early history basically a bunch of dust-eaters. Prometheus gave them the gift and secret of fire against Zeus' wishes, whoi had him strapped to a mountain peak to be tortured indefinitely, [don't worry, Herakles/Hercules saved him ... years later].

...But, it's more likely to be the name of the spaceship.

Pretty miffed by this news, I was keen to see Ridley return to the story that made his name in cinema.

Ah well. It is left to someone else to try and restore some dignity to our favourite xenomorph or are we really left with AVP2 as the final entry in the series?

The rumours around the prequel were really interesting; are the aliens a form of biological weapon that the space jockey's created? Was it an unknown cargo that escaped by accident?

I think it would have been an interesting back story and probably best as a one off film. But now we'll never know why the eggs were on the ship, who the pilot was, what the relationship was between the two species, where they were really headed, etc.

All that excitement about a new alien film, steered by the original director, tying in with the original film. Oh well.

I'll second that! Could be a terrific film in the hands of a capable director.

So, the space jockey is Prometheus and he's giving humanity the "gift" of fire (the Alien) and is subsequently punished by death and crash-landing on Acheron.

Well I'm excited about this film, let's hope they don't write off the space jockey, and if the space jockey is still there then to my eyes is still a prequel!!! I just don't like the title cause it's very confusing unless like someone said here it's the name of a ship or a planet. I hope it's not crappy confusing like "Dune"!

That's what I thought the metaphor would mean. We may be getting a Jockey linked, but Alien-less movie after all. I wouldn't be upset with that.

Or, Prometheus is giving something else to humanity and the Alien is Pandora. Scott did mention that the film would deal with "Gods and Engineers of space"

Perhaps the story revolves around the space jockey providing humanity with knowledge regarding advances in space travel and terraforming...and in doing so, the Alien is ultimately unleashed as punishment.

Either way, the film could somehow transcend the alien universe/story and turn out to be epic...I'm stoked regardless.

I'm liking how Scott is more involved in the process if this one than Alien, I hope this movie scares me shitless!! I hope it's very spooky and no, don't mean all kinds of gore, as much as I love Angelina I would not like her in this movie, Charlize on the other hand would be awesome!!

I will redo my poster, let's hope for an R rating, I know a pg13 would make the movie make more money cause it's a broader audience but we need an adult film! As much as I like Resurrection it was too "MTV" for my taste, the dialog in resurrection is one of the worst!
