I agree, it’s such a shame when - as you say - so many of his films have had them. Prometheus’ deleted scenes offer a lot, such as making Charlize Theron’s character’s speech to Weyland much more powerful; making the scientist’s reaction to the alien worm a bit more understandable; and creating a really tense stand-off between Shaw and the Engineer at the end. Oh well!

Yep. Janek's portentous 'weapons dump' anecdote makes his sacrifice all the more understandable, the first benign worm scene with Millburn also makes his subsequent behaviour more understandable as you say, and the extended stalk and slash with Shaw and the Engineer is aces. I love that ^ bit with Janek scene so much that I actually thought it was part of the movie, when I watched it last I was like "where's the Janek anecdote gone?". Pfffft.

I rewatched Prometheus a few days ago and still like it quite a bit. I'd also be interested in a longer cut. One thing I don't understand about this film is why did they have Idris Elba do a hillbilly accent? He just can't do it. It's a cockney-hillbilly hybrid. Should've let the man speak in his own voice. Anyway, the movie was a solid setup for what could come, and I'm not a fan of what actually did come...

Pretty much the whole cast are doing accents that are not their own. I don't know Ridley Scott likes having actors do this.

When I first saw Prometheus in the theater I had no idea it was part of the Alien franchise and I hadn’t even heard of the movie until the day I went to go see it. That’s pretty crazy that in this day and age I somehow avoided hearing anything about an Alien prequel, especially since I’ve always been a big fan of the series. I remember realizing it was part of the Alien franchise during the scene that shows a recording of Weyland talking to the Prometheus crew and music from the original Alien started playing. I became very excited at that point. I thought, “Holy sh**. This is an Alien movie!”

I still don't quite understand how some people (who tend to be among those who say the movie "doesn't make sense" and "the writing is bad") thought that the moon LV-223, where Prometheus takes place, was the same one from the original Alien, when the geography is completely different and the fate of the Engineer makes it clear it's not the Space Jokey the Nostromo crew would find two decades later.

At least he didn't use different accents over the course of the film like Rafe Spall.

People get precious when dealing with movies that follow classics. There is no wiggle room in their minds, it needs to be a goddamn classic in itself or it can GTFO. Unfortunately for Prometheus it is not a classic, just a very good movie with interesting ideas and great visuals. So a certain % of people were always going to act like it pissed on their children.

But, but Fifield is stooooopid. She should have run to the left or right. Yada yada.

I've decided I have a love/hate relationship to Prometheus
There are some great ideas, great shots, and outstanding performances! But some of it really could have used another layer of polish ... maybe like an electric sander

I came across this video about an early draft of Prometheus. It explains a lot about the Engineers in terms of their history and goals. The most surprising thing to me was that the Engineers didn’t actually create the first alien, which was a non-violent being they worshipped and called the “deacon.”

The info in this video might already be common knowledge but I just came across it and I’m just so fascinated with all of it. Lots of interesting philosophical, mythological, and religious ideas. The narrator says he believes the script is legit, so I guess that leaves some doubt about its authenticity. If all this is true, it’s strange that almost all of these explanations were cut from the film. Maybe some of this stuff will be included in the third movie, if it ever gets made. Here’s the video:

Here’s an updated video that confirms everything in the other video. It goes into more depth about the ideas in the previous video and references the documentary “The Furious Gods: Making Prometheus.” I need to see that doc. Here’s the updated video for those interested:

This film did not age well for me.

I liked it the most on my first viewing.

...enjoyed it less and less with each subsequent viewing.

I mean, I think the writing is bad, but I also know it's not the same planet. I knew that there was a chance it was before viewing, but after watching it I never thought it would be

I thought of this movie when I watched A.I. Both androids are named David. In A.I, Henry says David is programmed to love, but could also learn to hate and what would happen. I immediately thought of Fassebender's David. The A.I 2,000 years in the future (A.I) wanted to bring back humans but David in Prometheus wanted to destroy them. Kinda funny.

After viewing both this and Covenant, Prometheus is easily the superior movie.

Absolutely. But that's not saying much, either, IMHO.

Fair. I really liked Prometheus (although I can see why it's divisive), but Covenant is.....something.
