It's a wonderfully rich film with a lot on its mind that it balances surprisingly well.

If they added all the deleted scenes this movie would be at least a 7/10. Right now it's a 6 at best. It would be a 9/10 with the deleted scenes added in and Charlize as Shaw. What was Scott thinking casting Rapace as the lead, she's not in the same league as Theron...in the looks dept.

^ What does looks have to do with it?

If you'd leaned on Theron's ability instead your statement would have held more merit.

Looks do matter, Charlize Theron is one of the most beautiful and well known actresses from the last 20 years. She's a major A lister, not only for her acting skills, but also for her stunning screen goddess looks. As such, had she been cast as the lead (much like Weaver in the older movies) the film would probably have been remembered far more fondly than it is.

That and the missing deleted scenes which would have improved it overall.

The single biggest problem with Prometheus is the ear scraping dialogue, which sadly after repeated viewings seems to get more irritating.

I just don't get Scott sometimes, in Covenant we again had the opportunity to have a pretty strong and highly attractive female lead in Katherine Waterston, yet this has been just left on the shelf. She would make a good follow up in the next movie, if he ever decides to make it.

Its not just the dialog though. Plenty of other problems. It feels like a jumbled mess at times. One big problem is how much of a d!#$ Charlie is. Like, we are supposed to care about him and Shaw but Ive never been happier to see a guy get the flame thrower treatment. So, his death scene isnt sad at all. Its enjoyable. Thats a problem. Then, do we *really* care about any of the other characters? Maybe The pilots for sacrificing themselves at the end. Maybe a little bit. Otherwise.... Weyland? Nah. Vickers? Please. Any of the others? Not a bit. Thats a problem. Even Shaw, who is at least partially developed, just doesnt resonate with me.

I also dont care at all for how they killed the Xenomorph intrigue and mystique by making them yet another "science project" or military "thing" gone bad. Yawn. Been there a million times. Just isnt that interesting, IMO.

Waterston is like a wooden plank in Covenant. Useless, along with that entire film. Again, big chance to set the ship straight and they drove right into a giant iceberg. Please let Ridley be done with Alien-based films. Just stop at this point. Enough damage done here, me thinks.

The series was doing great before Scott came back.

I miss seeing aliens and predators fighting in front of a Papa John's.

John Ford looked down from Heaven and wept at the beauty of where pure cinema had progressed since his passing.

It doesn't get any purer than AVP 2.

Horses for courses, i think Rapace is far more attractive than Theron. I also think Rapace is a better actor

I think they're both great.

Probably Charlize for me though, for her role in Monster alone

I will take popcorn monster movies any day, over trying to explain away the wonderful Lovecraftian mysteries of the original Alien with nonsense like black goo and space Jesus, with the dumbest characters since the Friday the 13th remake.

This. We had an epically cool alien surrounded by mystique and intrigue. And they reduced it to black goo. Oh. Then, they threw in steroid abusing, hairless bodybuilders and whipped up the Space Jesus plot. Oh. What. The. %#$&?

They had two fabulous films to work off of in Alien and Aliens. They had essentially an unlimited budget. They had a solid cast too. How do you screw that up?
