Bloody Disgusting: From Replicants to Ancient Aliens – Exploring ‘Prometheus’ 10 Years Later

While it’s fun to speculate about the film that Prometheus could have been, I still think that it’s a miracle of a movie despite its numerous flaws. It’s definitely the most creative property to come out of the Alien franchise since the 1979 original, and I think the prequel’s reputation as a missed opportunity is mostly unjustified. In a world where interesting intellectual properties are usually wasted on boring rehashes, Scott somehow managed to gift us with an intelligent standalone thriller that still boasts plenty of treats for hardcore Alien fans, and that’s why it’s still worth revisiting 10 years down the line and beyond.

I hadn't seen this since its original theatrical run so I thought I'd give it another shot. Wtf was I thinking giving it only two stars. Spectacular imagery, deep mysteries, and cool creatures.

Prometheus, if going in not expecting Aliens, is a very epic sci-fi planet exploration parasite infection movie. Elizabeth Shaw, played by Noomi Rapace, versus David (Fassbender), great roles/performances. Really enjoyed it in 2012, and stand by my 5/5 stars back then.

Covenant, if going in expecting to see David's android perspective on the entire film, is much easier to watch from that point of view, rather than my original disappointment hoping to see more of Liz Shaw, who I thought was mostly great in Prometheus and deserved to be the star of the sequel.

Covenant has some cool Alien scenes thankfully. 3/5.

A 3rd film was being hoped for by Ridley Scott, but Covenant didn't rake it in financially so all plans were put aside and forgotten...

I have always liked Prometheus very much. I think a lot of the criticism came from people expecting a proper Alien sequel/prequel, but when we eventually got one (Covenant), it wasn't any good. I really wish we had a true Prometheus sequel.

Prometheus still looks amazing in 3D and I really do like the story. I also really like the way everything looked. From the ship design, costumes, color grading. I almost NEVER talk about those things, but I liked them so much I bought the 192 page art book for Prometheus in 2012.

Ridley Scott is a strong director. He's had the occasional miss, but when he hits...he hits. Prometheus, The Martian, Blade Runner, Alien, Black Hawk Down, American Gangster, Matchstick Men....most directors can't even make one movie this good, Ridley made all of them.

I'd pay full price to see Prometheus again in IMAX 3D.

I cherish my memory of knowing literally nothing about Prometheus when I went to see it in theaters and then at some point during the film realizing that holy sh*t, this is an Alien film!

Three stars is right. Not an atoms worth of Star material more than that though! . Imagery is fabulous. Special effects are reference quality. There are some ideas in there that are cool. The narrative just loses itself and the movie never amounts to much. I own the 4K and watch it with Alien and Aliens. I dont hate it, not at all. It just feels a little disappointing to me.

Careful. Embarrassingly awful movie. The "scientists" in Prometheus made some pretty dumb decisions, most people agree. Wait until you see what the space cadets do in Covenant, LOL.

You also won’t find a single, likable character. The lead is chunk of driftwood. The ancillary characters are Friday the 13th level useless. The movie isn’t really about the Xenomorph. Yet again. No idea what the hell they were going for with this movie. Oh and ironically, they manage to kill off the only really interesting character from Prometheus…. Off screen. Just like Alien 3 which was a terrible movie.

But, try it out. Curious if you actually like it or not. I think it sucks moose pecker.
