I asked Diane O'Bannon [wife of original Alien writer, Dan O'Bannon] on FB about whether or not Prometheus is Alien-related a week ago, and she said that no-one had gotten in touch with her about it, but they should have, as FOX have an obligation to the original creators if it is.

Well, today we were discussing the naming of ALIENS, when she let in that, quoted: I've been officially informed that PROMETHIUS is indeed taking off on the original ALIEN story.

So there ya go It's in the Alien unvierse. [You can see her comment on the Official O'Bannon FB page, here: http://www.facebook.com/pages/The-Of.../206990601009]

Also, this:

EXCLUSIVE: Update On Ridley Scott's Ultra Secretive PROMETHEUS!!
Hey guys! Got an exclusive update from one of my inside sources and in this case it is in turn from a source of his own, so take all of this with a grain of salt. But know this, my source here is one of my top taps of information so I am always excited to hear from him! Man I hope this is all true...

**WARNING POTENTIAL SPOILERS BELOW!!!
Do not read further unless you want to risk a pristine viewing experience of Ridley Scott's PROMETHEUS.

This is directly taken (mid email) from my source (emphasis is mine):

Be aware, there is a campaign of disinformation that is going to be used about this upcoming movie, I do not know that if inadvertently I am being used, however, the manner in which the conversation came about, I seriously doubt it.

Ridley Scott's sci-fi movie, currently going by the name Prometheus, is going to be a very large and intense story, with a scope that is epic, the final act is where the movie switches gears and shifts into Aliens territory. Pinewood houses an exact replica of the H R Giger Space Jockey command post. You may notice in the original Alien that the Space Jockey had a puncture on its considerably large chest, where the xenomorph broke out through the flesh of the creature and broke through the biomechanical armor it wears. You may also notice how big the Space Jockey is in relation to its human counter parts in the film. So imagine how big the baby must be, which is yet to grow. Then imagine quite a few of these. If you can do that, you got a pretty good grasp on the final act. And do not be expecting the traditional look either, these are very different creatures that will keep the general architecture of the xenomorph, but will have a considerably different look, and do very perverse things.

However, before all of this I hear that the story is not only reminiscent of 2001, but is also trying to push the boundaries of what a modern tent pole science fiction movie could be. This is all I can share, but trust me, you seriously need to start being excited about this project, because not only is this I am assured, not nostalgia for nostalgia reasons, but a whole new spin on that old chestnut.(Editor's note: I am definitely excited about this project! As many of you can attest I'm sure :-)

The story is a very closely guarded secret in Hollywood, and while it is not a direct prequel "officially" it has more than just passing ties towards the Alien saga's canon. You will have all the things that worked in the Alien canon, and very new and fresh and some controversial ideas presented, sexuality is dealt with quite directly. There may even be a robot or two. And the ship, which I am told is the current titles name, Prometheus. Highly original, both in concept and design I hear.

Man I can't wait to hear and see more about this project! We all know what Ridley Scott is capable of, and this is his beloved ALIEN universe!! It is beginning to sound like we are about to get everything we have ever wanted in a prequel.

So what do you think of the inside info? Do you think it's true or "true rumor"? :-) Most of it holds water with me so time will tell. I assume that the prequels revisit the ALIEN star system Zeta 2 Reticuli.

Personally I think we may be shocked at what is in this movie. Seriously shocked. I think there may be elements of sexuality never before explored in a major tentpole sci-fi before. My opinion of course, but look out. I am sooooo hoping for a 'hard R'.

There is def a lot to be excited about that I dont know where to begin.

I love Noomi Rapace, I sat through ALL of the "The Girl..." movies and she was amazing in all of them.

I love Charlize Theron, sure she is hot but she has great acting talent that is underated.

Logan-Marshall Green is HOT as hell, so the fact that he will be Elizabeth's love interest is great but I am not sure about his acting, we will see.

HR Giger's involvement. All this talk about being dark and epic and the Space Jockey playing a major role, the ship Prometheus being controlled by a head, OMG, so many question marks. I DONT want to know the story but I DO want to know production details.

I read they end filming in July/August with the movie going into post production till May of next year. I hear there will be a ton of post production work.

Noomi said that Elizabeth will be more physical than Salander, which I dont know how they will top Salander. If you guys had not seen the Trilogy, it is a MUST SEE!!!

I am drooling like an Alien lol

LMG plays a pretty intense character on Dark Blue, so he should match up well opposite Rapace.

Omg June 8, 2012 can't come here fast enough!!! And no word of a composer yet, seems they leave those for last, according to the digital data of alien 3 Elliot goldenthal had 6 months to do the score, I read that it's unusual for a film to get 6 weeks or more of composing time

Well the score's always done last, because everything has to edited first to see what music would be best suited to each scene. It would just be too difficult to record the music and then film everything to that score.

Ok that makes sense, let's hope the score is really good, I like the score in Alien 3 a lot so let's hope it's like that one.

Michael Fassbender talks Prometheus, check alien prequel page, I don't see Charlize Theron talking, I'm curious to see what she thinks about the project, I'm excited that she's on this project, one of the many things about this project I'm excited about, it may be too early to tell but I have the feeling this movie will revamp the series!

Wow. You have an impressive site.+++

A very quick share of an experience that I imagine many here had long ago--seeing Alien on opening night in the Spring of 1979. I saw it with my older sister and some of her friends at the age of 14. It was maybe the first R rated film I ever saw. I don't remember. Anyway, we saw it in the vast 2000 seat Edwards Newport Cinema in Newport Beach, CA. It had state of the art sound and was in 70mm. The theater was sold out. The ads and previews were extensive, and anticipation was high, but the secrets were kept and I don't think anyone knew about the chest burster. The combined screams and recoil of 2000 people simultaneously is an experience that is seared into my mind. It was unbelievable. The music by Jerry Goldsmith, is, of course, amazing, and one of his very best scores ever.

Oh, and you remember of course all of the flashing lights at the end of the movie. When we finally got out to our car, a Toyota Celica hatchback, there was a short-circuit in the light in the back of the car--and so driving home at night the light was flashing a lot like in the movie. It freaked us out.

Great story. Thanks for sharing it.

I wish that I could have seen it's opening in a theater.

Apparently we weren't the only audience that first saw it to freak out. I found this on wikipedia:

"It was the most incredible preview I've ever been in. I mean, people were screaming and running out of the theater.[62]
–Editor Terry Rawlings describing the film's screening in Dallas."

You folks probably all know this story

"For the filming of the chestburster scene the cast members knew that the creature would be bursting out of Hurt, and had seen the chestburster puppet, but they had not been told that fake blood would also be bursting out in every direction from high-pressure pumps and squibs.[39][54] The scene was shot in one take using an artificial torso filled with blood and viscera, with Hurt's head and arms coming up from underneath the table. The chestburster was shoved up through the torso by a puppeteer who held it on a stick. When the creature burst through the chest a stream of blood shot directly at Veronica Cartwright, shocking her enough that she fell over and went into hysterics.[15][34][39] According to Tom Skerritt: "What you saw on camera was the real response. She had no idea what the hell happened. All of a sudden this thing just came up."

Description Of The Aliens From Prometheus

Quote:
Some juicy new details emerge that point out that the aliens used in Ridley Scott's Alien prequel Prometheus are very much like the alien used in the original franchise...

Thanks to the folks over at the blogspot Alien Prequel News, we now have our first description of the aliens used in Ridley Scott's prequel to the Alien Franchise titled Prometheus:

Though security on the set is very tight with the good weather, dock doors have been open and cast and crew have been enjoying lunch outdoors. I can confirm seeing 3 aliens having lunch. Not the whole costume but blueish costumes and the unmistakable heads hanging around their shoulders.

The alien heads were the same shape but no markings, only a plane bronze colour. As for the suits black boots and shoulder pads the rest was a Chelsea blue body suit could be for SFX, all the sets around the back of the bond stage have huge green chromokey maybe that’s a clue.

I have witnessed foam cut outs of unmistakable aliens all cut in half lengh ways so they could be in the floor walls etc and very much from the original film.

Prometheus hits theaters June 8, 2012. The film stars Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba, Sean Harris, Kate Dickie, and Logan Marshall-Green; with Ridley Scott directing off a script by Damon Lindelof.
