It's cool that another alien movie is coming out but why is that they make movies backwards why not repoot the alien series instead of a prequel

You're right, just my opinion. I just find his stuff mediocre at best. It might be because he made Alien and Blade Runner and set the bar too high to ever match it again.

IMO, I don't want to see the Alien, that's why the first one still gives me the creeps.

The shot (not used in the film) in which it creeps up on Lambert on all fours, that's the freakiest thing to come out of the entire franchise IMO. It's disturbing and reeks havoc on one's senses.

Like I said before, kill off any link to the AVP BS storyline and concentrate on the Space Jockeys and their relationship with the species, and you're in for a treat, especially if Giger is part of the formula.

When you think about the possiblilties, the face huggers, and the queen that laid the eggs in the derelict ship may be all diriveratives of the Space Jockey Species. That's an enticing arc of a storyline if you ask me.

Offered him lots and lots of dinero I'm sure. Still, he's one of the best, and I'm sure he'll do a bang up job with this next installment.

I think there is good scope for a prequel and I'm very happy that RS will be at the helm. Why do I think there is scope:-

[Show spoiler]If I recall in "Alien" when Ripley (Siggy) got access to Mother (the computer) she was able to read special order 937: Investigate lifeform, gather specimen, crew expendable. Also Ash (Ian Holm) was parachuted into the crew at short notice before they departed Earth replacing the original science officer. Ash was also a robot. Ripley also ponders that "the company" may want the alien for it's bio-weapons division.

This tends to suggest that "the company" possibly has prior knowledge of this species and that the crew of the Nostromo are in effect being used as lab rats to bring the species home.

Maybe the prequel will deal with the Aliens home planet and the
[Show spoiler] pyramid which the "Snark" visited in the original screenplay.

This could be very interesting indeed.

No. The original cuts are called Theatrical cuts. If they were recut by someone else they would just be extended cuts. Ridley recut the films. Thus they were the final cut. (the last cut done by Scott). And the point is still valid, Scott should get final cut. He's earned it.

I don't know about a prequel, but getting Ridley Scott involved gives me a lot of hope.

You don't think that Gladiator was a good movie?

In any case, look forward to this and hope it is a well crafted film.

This could be very interesting indeed.
Which is what I would fathom a guess at, too. But then someone pointed out that the crew was on a mining expedition for quite a while before stumbling upon the distress signal. If the whole point was to collect the specimen, it would make more sense for them to go there immediately.

I've read it hypothesized that the company planted "moles" (like Ash) into all of their expeditions in the event they stumbled upon items of interest or of alien origin (which, let's face it, if you're exploring the galaxy, you'll probably consider that as a realistic possibility at some point).

IMO, furthering that point, it's possible the company had reports or rumors of alien activity in that particular section of space and sent Ash as insurance.

TMK, there's nothing in Alien canon that precludes humans from having made contact with the xenomorphs BEFORE the events in Alien, provided they weren't able to report their experiences before, you know, biting it.

Gladiator is a great film, IMO.

This could turn out to be a good movie. I would still have liked to see Cameron do another Alien film.

yeah same I'd rather they already know about the aliens going in rather then watching people find out about them all over again. At least we'll feel smart watching it when they are going what are these things

Don't forget black hawk down either

Forgot about that one. Black Hawk Down looked amazing on blu-ray. That's just as good as Gladiator.
I'm sure I read somewhere Cameron was interested in doing another one a few years back but Fox went and made AVP instead.

Possible, but wouldn't they know the distress signal was of alien origin, and not their own?

Some have hinted at the (very realistic) possibility that there are multiple corporations and thus far all we've seen is the universe from the perspective of one corp. Maybe they mis-interpreted the distress signal as coming from a rival corp?

The easiest way to connect this would be for Weyland to have come across the species, either on it's home planet or hitching a ride on some other ship. Fail at aquiring it, thus putting all of there "science officers" on high alert, which leads Ripley and the crew to what the company damn well knew, was a distress signal.

Either way, IMO humans have to be the target. The demise of the space jockey, his crew and ship wouldn't work as the center piece of the storie.

P.S. It disgusts me that Giger, who created the Alien, continues to get less and less credit for creature design, and is cut right out in Alien Resurrection.
