"Talk about shooting in 3D. Scott explains that they’re shooting in 3D and using minimal digital effects. He says he was brought up as a camera operator and with the help of his technical team he’s gotten the hang of it. Scott says after this experience he will never work without 3D again, even for small dialogue scenes.

Effects-wise, Scott recounts an effects coordinator telling him 28 years ago “if you can do it live, do it live.” He says it’s cheaper and it looks better."

This article keeps claiming Charlize is doing naked push ups, not nearly naked push ups. I approve

2011 Comic-Con: 'Prometheus' Unwound
Quote:
The moderator for this panel will be LOST's Damon Lindelof, who welcomes us to the “20th Century Fox bar mitzvah.” Thanks us for not going to the GAME OF THRONES panel, noting that a real knight will be making an appearance here (Sir Ridley Scott, as it turns out). Lindelof remembers one day he was driving his car and got a call saying Ridley Scott was gonna call him in 5 minutes. After he crashed the car, he says, he got the call, and it was Ridley asking if he could send Damon a script. He did, and they ended up working together on what would become PROMETHEUS. Do we want to see something? You bet.

Clip starts...but it's just a Ridley Scott sizzle reel from previous movies? Even ROBIN HOOD? Not for long, thankfully. We see Ridley on a new set, then images of a spaceship control room full of lit panels. A giant room that looks like the Giger-designed spaceship in the first ALIEN where they find the eggs, though it's filled with things that look more like Egyptian coptic jars – though they may still be eggs. It does seem like something bio-mechanical is inside.

We see Michael Fassbender examining them. Green-glass sleep pods. Bubble-helmets – the aesthetic is an odd mix of the original ALIEN H. R. Giger designs and pulp comic-book Buck Rogers-type stuff. Charlize Theron is doing push-ups naked. There's a large, ringed planet.

Scott is back on, says the cast of characters “find an establishment that is not what they expected it to be.” Somebody collapses, looks like internal injuries. People in space suits freak out. More of the Giant egg cargo hold. Scott says “It is all about everything...it has the DNA of the original ALIEN...what I wanna do is scare the living shit out of you.” It's being shot in digital 3-D.

Frankly, I'm glad they're continuing the franchise as such in a creative way. It's been a while since the original aliens were scary.

Clip ends. Charlize Theron comes out, with much longer hair than usual. “For all actors there is the one, the mighty, and that for me is Ridley Scott.” Scott wanted her, and she couldn't do it because of MAD MAX. When that got postponed, he called her back immediately – she felt “the script wasn't yet at its full potential.” With Lindelof and Scott, she helped work on it until it was (seriously? Charlize Theron is telling Lindelof and Scott what to write? Must admit, after watching GLADIATOR I wanted to do the same thing).

Lindelof makes a joke about the naked push-ups being disgusting and exploitative. Theron: “I know how to sell a movie.” Describes her character as “a suit: she's the machine that runs the machine...She's not a scientist, not a believer. You can tell she's gonna be a problem...You think you know who she is,[then] in the third act you strip her from her skin and really see what her bones are about.” (I assume that's figurative, but this is an ALIEN-like movie, so...)

Surprise – Ridley Scott's on the big screen via satellite from Iceland! And beside him is Noomi Rapace, cast after Scott became obsessed with THE GIRL WITH THE DRAGON TATTOO. She looks much nicer out of that character.

Ridley: “I feel like I'm about to produce a wildlife program.” His last day of shooting will complete the beginning of the film.

Why do this movie? “There was something in the first ALIEN no-one ever had a question about, and that became the center of it.” Says the sequels never dealt with it either, and he was amazed. Though he doesn't say it, the assumption is that he's talking about the “Space Jockey” creature in the first flick, the elephantine skeleton with the exploded stomach that was clearly a prior victim of the Alien.

Sets are mostly practical, little CG. He loves 3D, says “I'll never work without 3D again, even with small dialogue scenes.” As for the CG, “Doug Trumbull once said to me, if you can do it live, do it live...it is not less expensive to do digital.”

Lindelof: “Are you a replicant, and if not, why did you keep leaving origami on my chair?”

Scott: “I thought you were a f**king robot, and you needed origami to get your heart started!” Hints there might be two robots in PROMETHEUS.

Regarding rumored PG-13 rating, Scott says “I've got a responsibility to my studio, but I always want to have it both ways.” He'll make the final decision with Tom Rothman when they screen the final film. Confirms the naked push-ups are in there.

End PROMETHEUS panel.

Sources inform website Digital Spy that three xenomorphs were spotted on set...

PG13? Is that the same as a 12A in the UK? Hmm, films get away with a lot more these days than they used to, but all the same I'd have expected a 15 certificate. It depends what story is being told, it could be a suspenseful thriller in space rather than a splatterfest. From the post above it could still end up getting a higher rating depending on the editing by the sounds of it!

Bear in mind the certificate says nothing about the story/plot, it's simply a measure of how much bad language, sex and violence is in it. But it does suggest there won't be much gore, so fans of Alien expecting more of the same will be disappointed.

No point worrying about it, the proof is in the pudding as they say and I'm looking forward to taking a bite

He said at the end of the panel they will decide what the final rating will be once they view the finished film, meaning if it can be toned down to a PG-13 without losing effect, it will do. But if not possible, it won't.

It's still a Sci-Fi Horror film however, as Scott says he wants to "Scare the crap out of us", so it will definitely be receiving a 15 over here regardless.

I don't fully understand the American ratings but a 15 over here sounds good enough. Considering how much it's costing anyway.

Basically,
G = U
PG = PG
PG-13 = 12a/15 (besides the fact that it's a 13 instead of a 12)
R = 15/18 (except, anyone underage can see an R if they are with a parent or someone over the age of 17)

I would have thought that R-13 is equal to the UK 12A (under 12's can only see it if accompanied by an adult)

Some examples; Transformers 3 is a 12A, Deathly Hallows is a 12A, Captain America is a 12A while Cars 2 is a U (suitable for all)

If Prometheus is a 12A I will be expecting a pretty light weight film. Bear in mind the AVP films; both were 12A and were pretty light on the kind of visceral scenes fans had gotten used to in the respective Alien and Predator franchises.

You guys got some crazy frakking rating systems over there man. What exactly is a 'U' rating? Some of your PG-13 type movies you only got to be 12 to see but others 15?

I can beat that. What about Fassbender in a Ridley Scott R rated movie set in the Alien universe? In seeing the piddly stuff they forced Snyder to take out of Sucker Punch to get PG-13 this could completely gut this movie. The question is does Scott really have enough control to get this released as an R?

Back in my formative years we used to climb on the back of a dinosaur and go to the movies. For about 35 cents there was a choice of G,M (over 18 or accompanied by an adult) and X (adults only). The only X movie I saw was a scandalous affair called Midnight Cowboy. Shocking! An example of a M was Rosemary's Baby. Both eventually fell to R when they redid the ratings system.

Mainly PG-13 Horror films are forced a 15 rating, due to "Substained Terror" or "Strong Menace" or some crap like that!

That makes more sense..it's the R rating that I find stupid. So 8 year olds could go watch some film filled with sex and violence and whatnot if they have an adult with them? Crazy!

What's NC-17 All about too? No one under 17 at all can see it?

The U is Universal..suitable for everyone..an example of that (looking at my collection) would be Toy Story 2 and Ponyo..the first Toy Story is actually PG so an adult may need to supervise their (young) kids on some parts of the film

They started at Pinewood in March. Since it's a space movie u have to figure there wont be much location shooting. Maybe after Iceland they rap it.

Chestburster alone wouldnt earn R nowadays. Cable TV cuts of Alien show everything except maybe some of the Sigourny Weaver braless and butt crack scene. Only difference besides that is the lack of F words
