Yea, I am also of the same opinion, as I do not believe that it is the same ship that we see in ALIEN. Well for me, the planet that it crashes on appears to be completely different from the first film. Climate and physical geography are way off. And going by memory, the SJ chair chamber seems to have a few differences in it. .

If the end of the official Prometheus trailer shows the Spacejockey ship crashing on LV-426, I see no major difference in the climate and cloud cover of the planets/planetoids. As for the geography, changes could be attributed to seismic activity, if millions of years pass between the end of Prometheus and the beginning of Alien. If you accept the fossilization idea, subtle differences in the pilot room could be attributed to that. The ship itself was posited to be a living biomechanical entity that may have been subject to the same fossilization seen in the Spacejockey. In a recent talk with Speakeasy (via ComingSoon), Scott elaborated slightly on his previous statements on Prometheus saying that the last eight minutes of the film will evolve into "a pretty good DNA of the Alien one." |

I hope we finally get an answer to what the mission of the derelict was and whether the eggs were bioweapons. If I had to guess, the ship was on its way for a clean up on aisle Earth in retaliation for some transgression by the Prometheus crew on the Engineer home planet.
Yet another bogus Prometheus plot?? ![]() |

Yes, the room isn't identical and the seat isn't either. Of course they might have just not been concerned with keeping it identical. ![]() |

Also worthy of note compairing the image and video above is the scale of the humanoid and 'space jockey chair' compaired to the one from Alien. This raises more questions than answers and may suggest that the actual technology remains the same but the chair is a custom build for it's occupant. Either that or the Humanoid can change physical stature.

Perhaps more than you ever wanted to know about the derelict in Alien (includes preproduction artwork of the derelict in its "alive" state:

One notable difference between the two pilot rooms is the presence of the stasis chambers/sarcophagi or whatever those are on the deck by the being and surrounding the chair. I'm not sure how their omission from the derelict in Alien can be explained. |

Anyone else extremely disappointed that Guy Pearce's role is nothing more than a cameo? It is cool that he is playing Weyland (Who I thought was established to look like Bishop in Alien 3?), but seriously he has to be the most underused actor of all time.

I really kinda wish Ridley would have stuck with 'Weylan' instead of 'Weyland'. Admittedly, it's a minor thing. But I'd have preferred continuity with his previous film rather than the others.
I'm looking forward to this regardless of how many plot connections there are to Alien. I just loved the world and atmosphere that was set up in the first film. If this has a similar vibe and look (the trailer certainly does) to Alien, I can't wait. ![]() I too wish Guy Pearce had a bigger role. ![]() |

Ridley Scott said that the last eight minutes of Prometheus evolve into the Alien movie: http://www.ifc.com/fix/2011/11/ridley-scott-prometheus The argument falls apart, as you said, without some element of time travel involved. |
